Demgegenüber ist es durch die Erfindung möglich, die Durchtrittsöffnungen nahe an den Zylinderkopfboden heranzulegen und die Mulde im Kolbenboden entsprechend flach zu gestalten. Im Zylinderkopf ist neben einem Einlaßv entil 14 und einem Auslaßventil 15 schräg und exzentrisch zur Zylinderachse eine Vorkammer 16 angeordnet, welche durch einen Einsatz 17 gegenüber der Wandung des Zylinderkopfes ausgekleidet ist und in welche eine Einspritzdüse I8 derart einmündet, daß der Brennstoff durch einen erweiterten, im wesentlichen kugelförmigen Vorkammerteil I9 in den nach dem Hauptbrennraum führenden kanalförmigen Vorkammerteil 2o gespritzt wird. Die diesen Vorkammerteil gegen den Hauptbrennraum abschließende Bodenwandung 21 des Vorkammereinsatzes .17 ist im wesentlichen halbkugelförmig abgerundet, derart, daß die abgerundete Wandung im wesentlichen tangential in die anschließenden -zylindrischen Wandungen des Einsatzes übergeht-Oberhalb des abgerundeten Bodens 21 ist der Einsatz mit Bohrungen 22 versehen, welche senkrecht zur Achse des Zylinders und parallel zur Bodenfläche 24 einer den Hauptbrennraum bildenden exzentrisch zur Zylinderachse angeordneten Mulde im Kolbenboden verlaufen.
