Code lock

The invention relates to a code lock with an actuating device for a number combination and a rotary handle for actuating a bolt. The combination lock is provided with a locking device for the bolt and a switching device for the free coding of the number combination.

Code locks of various designs are known. In some designs, the locking discs are set by means of associated adjustment buttons, usually three of which are operated from the outside, while the fourth button is used to operate the bolt.

In other code locks, the locking discs with the numbers protrude from the casing with part of their circumference. When setting the opening code, each locking disc is immediately operated and turned by hand. If you forget to turn the locking discs after opening the lock, the opening code can be recognized and used by unauthorized persons.

Other code locks require a separate lock case for the arrangement of the locking discs, which is attached to the back wall of the door or similar, is geometrically very large and sometimes detracts from the appearance of the object when the door is open or cannot be used for certain applications due to the size of the lock case. In addition, if the lock is not locked, the code can be easily and quickly changed by unauthorized persons when opening it from the back.

With another code lock with only one operating button, in addition to the disadvantages of the special lock case on the back of the lock, a special slider outside the lock is required. With other code locks with one operating button, this must be turned from its basic position several times in the opposite direction according to the number of locking discs.

The invention is based on the object of designing a code lock of the type described in such a way that

- it requires little space and takes into account the installation dimensions of the existing cylinder locks and thus a conversion from cylinder lock to combination lock is possible;

- if the locking discs are in the unlocking position ('opening code'), the combination (code) cannot be read;

- it is difficult for unknown persons to change the code when the lock is open;

- the set number combination is not automatically discarded during or after opening.

This is achieved by arranging the sleeve of the rotary latch between the lock housing and the crown and the locking ball either corresponding to the groove of the lock housing or the recess of the crown and by the wall thickness of the sleeve of the rotary latch, the depth of the groove in the lock housing and the depth of the recess in the crown being designed in such a way that they each correspond to half the diameter of the locking ball.

The lock housing 1 is inserted through the mounting hole of the door of the drawer or the like and is firmly connected to the door or the like by means of a screw nut 3 and a locking washer 2. The rotary latch 4 with the integrated sleeve 27 is mounted in the lock housing 1. When the opening code is set, the rotary latch 4 must be rotated relative to the lock housing 1 by a certain angle, preferably 90 degrees.

The angle of rotation is limited by stops 14. The rotational movement moves the bolt 5, which is attached to the rotary latch 4 with screw 6, and can thus fulfill the function of locking or unlocking. By screwing the bolt 5 onto the rotary latch 4, it is axially mounted in the lock housing 1.

The rotary latch 4 serves as a holder for the handle 7 and the locking wheels, which consist of the ring 8 and the locking sleeve, and the balls 10, the spacer sleeve 11 and the bearing bush 12. The bearing bush 12 is secured centrally on the rotary latch 4 and in the axial direction by grooved pins 13 against displacement and twisting.

The axial position of the rings 3 and the bearing bush 12 is secured with the interposed spacer sleeve 11. The axis 15 is guided through the bearing bush 12 and the pusher 7.

The adjustment knob 16 is firmly connected to the axle 15 and is non-rotatable. The numbers 17 are attached to the circumference of the adjustment knob 16. The number of numbers must correspond to the notches 18 on the rim 8 of the ratchet wheel.

If the adjustment knob 16 is adjusted in the radial direction, the locking sleeve 9 and the ring 8 are also adjusted radially via the axis 15 with key 19 and the associated annular groove 22.

The spring tongues 20, which are arranged in a window of the rotary latch 4, engage in the notches 18 of the rim 8 of the locking wheel and thus ensure a clear locking when adjusting or setting the code.

The axle 15 engages in different bearing positions in the axial direction according to the number of locking wheels. The engagement is achieved by the interaction of the locking ball 21, which is spring-loaded in the bearing bush 2, in the annular grooves 22 of the axle 15.

The longitudinal movement of the axle 15 is limited by the collar 23 and the bearing bush 12. The collar 8 of the locking wheel has on its circumference, on the notches 18 on the side, a niche 24 for receiving the locking ball 10 when setting the opening code.

The niche 24 is dimensioned such that it has the depth of half the ball diameter 10 and the segment width depending on the number of digits engraved and the diameter of the ring 8.

If the desired combination is to be set to open the lock, the selected code numbers must be set using the setting button 16, starting from the inside and working outwards, from the first to the last locking disc.

The locking balls 21 fall by half the ball diameter from the groove 25 of the lock housing 1 into the recess 24 of the locking wheel, release the previously existing connection between the rotary latch 4 and the lock housing 1 and thus form the connection between the locking sleeve 9 and the rotary latch 4. This enables the desired opening or closing movement of the latch 5 via the rotary latch 4.

The combination can only be changed when the lock is open. To do this, the rotary bolt 4 with the entire internal structure is removed from the lock housing 1 after unscrewing the bolt 5. This frees the rings 8 from the locking wheels. When the pusher 7 is operated, the coupling between the ring 8 and the locking sleeve 9 is disengaged and the ring 8 can be adjusted relative to the setting button 16. To do this, the setting button must first be loosened.

16 must be turned to the "O" position. When the pusher 7 is released, a compression spring 26 re-engages the coupling between the crown 8 and the locking sleeve 9, and the new code is set.
