Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The present invention is a buffer cone spring for railroad cars that after being compressed by its own braking, its free expansion slows down. When traveling Railway trains come to a standstill, so take care of the wagons pushed against each other by the compressed buffer springs close again with the same force crash, which run through the whole row of wagons in an often repetitive jolt announces. The present spring causes this ricochet with less force goes on as it corresponds to the resilience of the spring.
The active part of the spring now consists of a protruding rib R which the straight spring leaf has before it is rolled up into a buffer spring and which extends within one half of the width from one end of the spring leaf to the other. Because the spring leaf tends to be wider and thicker at one end than at the other, this protruding rib R is also stronger at the wide end than at the other, namely about 40 mm wide and about 8 mm high, and towards the other end decreasing up to half the width and height. It must be determined to what degree the expanding force of the spring is to be reduced and then the strength of the rib is determined by experiment, i.e. whether it is up to 30, 25 or even 20 pCt. should be reduced. On the opposite face, instead of the protruding rib J? at an analogous point a depression or groove S. Rib and groove can be produced by pressing on the spring.
If this straight spring leaf is rolled into a buffer spring, it has the shape as in FIGS. 1 a and 1 b, in which in FIG. 1 a -R the rib, in FIG. 1 b, ie opposite, S represents the groove . By this rib, the buffer spring is now stretched when compressed in radial directions from each other, so that it has the shape in Figs. 2a and 2b and immediately after that of Figs Winding in the groove S of the next larger one is located and the spring has narrowed again.
After releasing the pressing pressure, the spring is stopped in its free expansion by this protruding rib R , since it expands radially through the same, in order to get into the shape of FIGS must.
