Process for egg production from water-white phthalic acid esters from synthetic

however only dark colored phthalic acid esters, which are suitable for light colored synthetic resins
do not let use. Synthetic ones are used to obtain water-clear phthalic acid esters
Alcohols already under more severe conditions of a hydrogenating treatment
but could not achieve a satisfactory lightening of the color.
It has now been found that synthetic alcohols can also be water-lightened with phthalic acid
Esters can be converted if you remove the synthetic alcohols before their esterification
subjected to hydrating hydrogenation. The hydrogenation must be conducted in such a way that
that both the olefinic and aldehydic impurities present
be dismantled. Such impurities contain aldehydes or unsaturated ones
Alcohols often in the form of ester or ether bonds.
Alkohol nochmals destillieren. In the hydrating hydrogenation to be carried out according to the invention

The small amount of acid resulting from the ester cleavage is expediently removed
by washing with dilute potassium or sodium hydroxide solution. You can also use the cleaned one
Distill the alcohol again.

It is advisable to use a nickel catalyst which is activated with magnesium and deposited on kieselguhr. However, other hydrogenation catalysts can also be used. The alcohols to be cleaned can be mixed with water beforehand, for example in a ratio of 6: 1. A synthetic C "alcohol to which water was added in a ratio of 6: 1 could, according to the invention, be purified at 210 ° by a hydrogen treatment carried out at excess pressure to such an extent that, in addition to a hydroxyl number of 349, after washing it had a 5 ° /, The treatment with sodium hydroxide solution was necessary in order to eliminate an acid number of 0.7 which was produced during ester cleavage Phthalic anhydride was treated, the result was a water-white phthalic acid ester, which could also be used as a plasticizer for light-colored synthetic resin masses. This phthalic acid ester was outstandingly suitable as a plasticizer for light-colored synthetic resins. If the Cla alcohol obtained by catalytic carbohydrate hydrogenation is esterified with phthalic acid without the pretreatment according to the invention, only a dark brown ester is obtained, which is unsuitable as a plasticizer for light-colored synthetic resins.
