Description
Man erhält so harte, glanzgebende Wachse. Method of making hard waxes It is known to be natural Waxes, e.g. B. montan wax, carnauba wax or candelilla wax, with mono- or polyvalent ones to implement aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic amines. The wax esters are saponified, the acids are converted into: \ mide and the corresponding higher ones Alcohols are released in the process. Hard, glossy waxes are obtained in this way. These substances show a crystalline structure, hold only a low level of solvent binding and are not well tolerated by paraffin. They are therefore not suitable for the production of Shoe cream and polish.
It is also known that it occurs in synthetic waxes, for example the esters of bleached lontanic acids and glycols succeed in binding the solvent by leaving some of the acids unesterified and adding 2 up to 21/2 ° / o calcium hydroxide, calculated on the total amount, converted. This method however, is not applicable to the vigilant from the natural waxes because they contain too little free acid. 1lan could now use the wax amide with the calculated amounts of higher fatty acids, e.g. B. montan acids, merge and then try calcium hydroxide treatment. But it shows that the Acids only to a small extent even at rSo ° and even higher temperatures (learn React calcium hydroxide. Insofar as lime soaps form at all, separate these turn out to be greasy masses. It has now been found that These difficulties can be remedied by using amides from natural waxes and mono- or polyvalent amines with such amounts of calcium salts of high molecular weight., d. H. Fatty acids containing at least 18 carbon atoms are fused together so that the The resulting mixtures contain between about 1 and: 4% calcium in the form of calcium salts. As amines on which the amides can be based, z. B. aliphatic amines, such as dodecylamine or octadecylamine, ethylenediamine, also o-phenylenediamine and cycloalkylamines into consideration. For the fusing it is expedient to choose temperatures between about ioo and i8o °. Particularly suitable calcium salts are those of the saturated fatty acids, z. B. the salts of stearic acid, behenic acid, montanic acids and in the Post-acidic acids obtainable by paraffin oxidation. With the same success you can hydrogenated castor oleic acid or other natural higher molecular weight fatty acids, the no longer contain double bonds. These salts dissolve when they fuse with the amides in it, without any precipitations occurring.
The waxes produced in this way have compared to the natural waxes and their amides have a much higher solvent binding capacity and a better one Paraffin compatibility.
It was also found that solvent binding capacity and Paraffin tolerance can be increased if you still use the mixtures mentioned as much free saturated fatty acids containing at least 18 carbon atoms adds that the acid number of the final mixture is 10 to 30. Are suitable for this all fatty acids mentioned. A particularly good result is achieved if at least some of these fatty acids consist of montanic acids. This also has the effect of that the freezing point of the shoe cream and polishing compounds produced of about 22 ° is increased to 32 °.
The new products are hard, glossy waxes, whose ability to bind substances is used far surpasses that of natural waxes. They are paraffin-compatible and give solid leather and floor care products that are largely insensitive to temperature during processing with a smooth surface and a good mirror.
The parts given in the following examples are parts by weight.
Example i 75 parts of a raw montan wax and diethylcyclohexylamine are heated obtained amide mixture to 120 ° and gradually contributes 15 parts to the mass of the calcium salt. of behenic acid. The salt dissolves quickly with thorough stirring on. After a brief increase in the temperature to 180 °, the mixture is increased to 100 bis I Io ° cooled and with 5 parts of hardened rapeseed oil fatty acid and 5 parts of montanic acid merged. The hard wax obtained in this way gives a firm, dry shoe cream high solidification temperature, smooth surface and beautiful mirror.
Example e 76 parts of a product made from cyclohexylamine and carnauba wax Amide mixture with 18 parts of the calcium salt of montanic acid at iio bis i - o ° melted together and in the still warm mass 4 parts of hardened rapeseed oil fatty acid, i part hydrogenated castor oil fatty acid and i part montanic acid. This wax The solvent absorption capacity of natural carnauba wax is considerably better and gives shoe polish and floor waxes with a firm bond and a beautiful mirror.
Example 3 In 78 parts of a melt produced at about 10 ° The amide mixture of o-phenylenediamine and candelilla wax becomes 14 parts of the calcium salts from secondary acids of paraffin oxidation (number of carbon atoms 20 to 24), 4 parts Hardened rapeseed oil fatty acid and 4 parts of montanic acid entered. The wax thus obtained has a greater solvent binding capacity than natural candelilla wax and gives sc'hu'h creme and floor waxes with a firm bond, high freezing point and beautiful Mirrors.
