The economic utility of a jet propeller makes it in many
Desirable cases, the ships previously powered by a free-wing propeller
equipped with a jet propeller. However, among other things, they were proportionate to this
high material and operational resources required for such an exchange,
obstructing the way, with the work for the new manufacture of the jet propeller
as well as the installation and removal a long lay time in the dock came.
The difficulties involved in using the jet propeller for
Opposed propulsion of the ships, which were equipped with a free-wing propeller
were, are overcome according to the invention because the existing free-blade propeller
by inserting the nozzle ring pieces between the blades of the free-wing propeller
is converted into a jet propeller. The insertion of the diisenring pieces leaves
be carried out with limited resources, and under certain circumstances without that
the ship must be docked, as the ring pieces are also attached to the empty ship
Have wing tips protruding from the water attached. Inserting the nozzle ring pieces
between the blades of the free-wing propeller is very much according to the invention
simply designed that attached to the wings support parts made of weldable material
and welded to the nozzle parts to be arranged between the blades. the
'Prague parts can be made of flat iron, which is the wing profile and the pitch
easily adapts. Then serve to attach the support parts to the propeller blades
the usual means, such as dowel bolts, screws, rivets o. the like.
In the conversion work it is now irrelevant which material is made of
the existing propeller exists. The supporting parts can be kept weak,
since they are only ever used in the levels of the greatest section modulus. the
Nozzle ring pieces themselves only need to fit between the blades @ at the edges
and to be welded to the supporting parts. The type of attachment of the nozzle ring pieces
on the wings allows subsequent corrections to the position of the nozzle ring pieces.
The drawing shows an embodiment, namely in Fig. I an axial section
through the nozzle, in Fig. 2 a section on the line a-a of Fig.g. i, in Fig. 3
a section on the line b-b of Fig. i. On the blades i of the free-wing propeller
the support parts 2 are adapted from flat iron and by means of screws 3, fitting bolts
, 4 or 5 countersunk rivets attached. At the edges, the support parts 2 can be at the points
x must be welded together. With the support parts attached to the wing i
2 the nozzle ring pieces 6 fitted between the wings i are now welded at y,
after which the conversion work is finished.
