Description
Process for purifying crude benzene using lignite coke The at The high-temperature coking of lignite contains gas as well as substances like carbon dioxide, hydrogen, carbonic acid, methane and the tar vapors a considerable one Amount of hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfur compounds such as carbon disulfide and thiophene._ The organic sulfur compounds that are found at low Forming heating temperatures are extremely stable and do not decompose if you stay in the highly heated treatment room for a longer period of time or if you stay for a longer period of time Path through the heated lignite. Also through the usual cleaning and tar separation these sulfur compounds, which have an exceptionally foul odor, not removed from the gas. However, they partly differ in the production of benzene with the help of washing oil or activated charcoal together with the benzene. That from the washing oil or the activated carbon z. B. contains benzene obtained by steam distillation hence such malodorous sulfur compounds.
The endeavor, the benzene obtained in small quantities, for the one cumbersome and expensive desulfurization plant is not economically viable, z. B. for the benzene obtained in the gas works, directly without any special processing Using it as fuel comes across where the gas is wholly or partially made up of lignite is won, on difficulties because of the bad smell attached to the benzene bothered people around it too much.
According to the invention, the bad smell becomes easier and cheaper Way eliminated. The crude benzene is in a liquid state at ordinary temperature passed through high-temperature lignite coke. The Coke are used, that of the previous degassing of the lignite arises. When passing the benzene through the high-temperature lignite coke the substances causing the bad smell go to the high-temperature lignite coke, and the benzene is odorless. The benzene gets a normal aromatic Odor.
According to a known method, tar distillates are at 3oo to 4oo ° passed in a vaporous state through a coke column, and the products obtained are then washed with sodium hydroxide solution. Another method will be liquid Hydrocarbons refined at normal temperature using active coal. At the The known washing with sodium hydroxide solution eliminates the former process the odorous substances. 'But this makes the production more expensive and is only for processing larger amounts of benzene can be used.
Experiments with activated charcoal have shown that with this only a partial Elimination of the odorous substances takes place while passing the benzene through Lignite high-temperature coke the bad smell of benzene disappears completely. the The lignite high-temperature coke is likely to have a particularly good effect on it attributed to the fact that the unsaturated odor formers when passing through the High-temperature lignite coke can be converted into odorless polymers. Here In addition to the large-area, self-catalytically active coke, the ash content plays a role of lignite high-temperature coke plays a decisive role in the polymerization promotes. The ash acts as a catalyst and also chemically binds odorous substances acidic nature. The method offers the particular advantage that with ordinary Temperature and without the application of pressure. Example one in lignite degassing Obtained malodorous benzene, the 59 mg resin former in 100 ccm and 1.24 percent by weight Containing sulfur became lignite high-temperature coke at about 1/10 of its weight mixed and the benzene drained off again immediately. An investigation into the Benzene showed that the resin formers had decreased to 30 mg in 100 ccm and the sulfur content had decreased to 1.2 percent by weight. Simultaneously were also bound olefins, their content from 40 percent by volume to 36% according to the Treatment declined. The benzene now had the normal benzene odor; H. the substances that make up the caused a foul odor, especially in sulfur compounds and as resin formers are present.
An apparatus for carrying out the method is shown in the figure. The device consists of a container i with a perforated support plate 2. On this support plate 2 rests lignite high-temperature coke 3, which is filled through the funnel 4 and, after its consumption, is discharged from the container through the otherwise closed C opening 5. The crude benzene coming from a line 7 flows through the opening 6 via the pump 8 into the container i. The purified benzene flows out through the opening 9. The benzene can also be repeatedly passed through the high-temperature lignite coke filling. A connection 14 is then established between the container and the line 7 and the pump 8 is operated as a circulation pump. The purified benzene then flows off through line 13 . But you can also run in the benzene through the opening 9 and drain through the opening 13 with intermittent operation. In order to achieve an even distribution of the benzene on the high-temperature lignite coke, a distribution ring for the benzene is placed on the high-temperature lignite coke bed.
You can also put high-temperature lignite coke in the benzene stored in a container Pour in and stir the mixture. This way of working is particularly advantageous when it is a question of small amounts that occur temporarily.
