Description
Process to prevent oils, fats, waxes from going rancid, their mixtures and the products made from them An important problem for the oil, fat and wax industry is - the prevention of rancidity. It has There is no shortage of products that have been proposed for this purpose, but In practice it could be determined that this agent is the one to be preserved oil, fat or wax either too expensive or with a small addition showed no effect. In not infrequent cases the strong smell of the additive made it its use impossible.
The rancidity that occurs when fats are stored for a long time is characterized due to an unpleasant smell and taste, must be regarded as an oxidative degradation in which the fatty acids are converted into lower aldehydes with the help of bacteria and ketones are converted.
This process must: experience a hindrance or inhibition, if the Substances are added to fats, which prevent the development of bacteria and act as antioxidants.
Tests with halogenated hydrocarbons have now shown that here There are products that can be produced technically cheaply and that are odorless and have such considerable rancidity-inhibiting properties that they are used for preservation of oils, fats and waxes are excellently suited.
Vorschriften ausreichen soll, herangezogen. To test the halogenated hydrocarbons in this regard, Fresh olive oil in petri dishes was exposed to air. Next to pure oil was used with 1% chlorinated paraffin with 33.0 chlorine; another Sample was mixed with i% of a 44% chlorinated paraffin and for comparison one Sample with o, 2% p-oxybenzoic acid methyl ester, an amount which is necessary for the prevention of the Rancidity according to the. Regulations should be sufficient.
After 4 weeks, the olive oil without any addition showed a clearly noticeable one rancid odor, while on the samples with the additives no such change was recognizable.
In the same sense: the Kreis reaction showed differences. That Oil without added had the bright red color in the acidic layer, while the samples with the additives weaker colorations, those with q.4 ° 10igem chlorinated paraffin even only showed a pink color.
In addition, quantitative determinations of the rancidity were made by determining the P, eroxide number. The peroxide number was determined in a known manner by titrating the excreted iodine when boiling. ig oil with ig solid iodine potassium and 6 cc of a mixture of 2 parts glacial acetic acid and 1 part chloroform. That for. The coming olive oil had a peroxide number of 31.

The following figures were obtained at one-month intervals: After month 2 months 3 months 01 without addition .............................. .... - .... 44 84 183 Oil with z ° 1o chlorinated paraffin 33 % . . . . . . . . . ... . . . . . . . . . 38 62 114 oil - I 0I0 - 440/0 .. .. .. .... . . .. .. .... .... 38 5 $ 111 Oil - 'o, z ° / o p-Oxybenzoic acid methyl ester. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 41 68 137 Preventing rancidity in the products made from them is just as important as it is for the oils, fats and waxes themselves. .. As is well known, it is a wrong problem for the soap industry to be able to prevent the symptoms of rancidity, especially in toilet soaps. Attempts have been made in various ways to master the symptoms of rancidity. Thus, precautionary measures and guidelines have been drawn up both in the selection of the fat base and in the manufacture itself, but hardly any work has been done in the direction of incorporating a bactericidal agent into the finished basic soap. As already mentioned, the addition of organic substances, e.g. B. guaiac resin, lecithin, phenols, condensation products of aromatic amines with aliphatic aldehydes, to fats, oils and soaps for the purpose of preventing rancidity. However, apart from their high price, their use in the soap industry stands in the way of the fact that they can be saponified, that is, they cannot be used as superfatting agents. On the other hand, it is known to add high molecular weight hydrocarbons to soaps as superfatting agents. However, these do not have any property that inhibits or prevents rancidity. In contrast, the high molecular weight, aliphatic, halogenated hydrocarbons can be used as superfatting agents due to their unsaponifiability and their oily character and at the same time have bactericidal properties. Since almost every pebbled toilet soap is over-greased in order to give it suppleness and mildness, the addition of halogenite hydrocarbons, be it as the sole over-greasing agent or in combination with other already known over-greasing agents, is conceivably suitable to ensure storage stability Unite mildness. Halogenated hydrocarbons can be used in a very similar manner in the cosmetics industry. Adding halogenated hydrocarbons as an additive to creams, ointments, skin oils and the like is just as advantageous as it is to soaps.

Verwendung finden. Außerdem lassen sich auch z. B. brornierte aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe benutzen.Instead of the chlorinated paraffin, you can also use chlorinated Geresin, chlorinated Mineral oils that have been pretreated accordingly or the like are used. aside from that can also z. B. use brominated aliphatic hydrocarbons.
