Derartige Wärmeableitflächen, die meist die Form von einfachen Rippen haben, lassen sich aber nur bei glatten Zylindern anbringen, die bei Brennkraftmaschinen in den meisten Fällen nicht vorliegen, da durch Ventilgehäuse, besondere Ausbildung der Verbrennungsräume u. dgl. unregelmäßige Formen entstehen. Um bei solchen Zylindern die an sich sehr wirksame Kühlung mit billigen Mitteln zu erzielen, soll nach der Erfindung der Zwischenraum zwischen Zylinderwand und Ummantelung mit leicht rollenden Körpern ausgefüllt werden, wie z. B. Kugeln oder ähnlichen Körpern, die sich. leicht nach Herstellung des Mantels einfüllen lassen und jeden Zwischenraum ausfüllen. Darauf werden diese Körper nach irgendeinem bekannten Verfahren, beispielsweise durch Zusammensintern, Eintauchen in Lötmasse o. dgl., miteinander in metallische Verbindung gebracht.
