Description
Process for obtaining waxy products In British patent 308 996 a process for obtaining valuable products from raw or pretreated montan wax is described, according to which montan wax is treated with a larger amount of oxidizing agent than is necessary for complete bleaching in order to increase the binding capacity. According to British Patent 320 854, waxy substances are obtained by subjecting the products obtainable according to the first-mentioned patent to a treatment with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases at elevated temperature in the presence or absence of catalysts, with them optionally being solid before, during or after this treatment , or liquid hydrocarbons or oil, fat, wax or resin-like substances, the components or mixtures of which of the substances mentioned are added. The products available according to the two patents mentioned contain large amounts of high molecular weight acids.
It has now been found that new waxy products are obtained if the products available according to British patents 308 996 or 320 854 or similar, mainly consisting of high molecular weight wax acids, such as those obtained, for. &. by intensive electrolytic bleaching of montan wax and separation of the original saponified esters, the latter e.g. B. according to patent specification 453 296, or by distillation of montan wax with steam under undiminished pressure "can be obtained individually or in a mixture with one another to such a treatment that the carboxyl groups of the free acids contained therein with other organic acids, in particular other fatty acids or For example, this can be done by mixing the starting materials mentioned with such oil, fat, resin or wax-like substances or mixtures thereof which contain free carboxyl groups, and mixing the free carboxyl groups present in the mixture entirely or partially esterified with polyhydric alcohols or mixtures thereof Oxy acids , Oxyaldehydes, oxyketones, phenols and the like., Be replaced in whole or in part. Optionally, the remaining free carboxyl-containing constituents can be wholly or partially converted into salts or salt mixtures or other derivatives in which the CO group is retained, e.g. B. in anhydrides or amides, convert.
One can see the properties of the obtainable in the manner described Products vary by being before, during or after the esterification or other treatment solid or liquid hydrocarbons, oil, wax or resinous Substances that do not contain any free carboxyl groups, or mixtures of these substances inflicts.
It is already known to esterify montan wax with glycerine. While the glycerine is esterified with similar acids and very hard and brittle products are obtained, mixed esters, which contain the wax acids made from montan wax in addition to other organic fatty acids, are produced according to the present process and products are produced which, in their properties, such as hardness, kneadability, etc., fully correspond to the beeswax. EXAMPLE i 220 kg of fatty acids obtained from coconut oil are heated with 150 kg of ethylene glycol with the addition of i kg of 40% strength sulfuric acid for one hour to 120 to 130 ° - and then 100 kg of a product obtained from montan wax according to British patent 308996, 100 kg of stearin and add 40 kg of WOllfett; then it is heated for a further 3 hours at between 120 and 130 °. The product obtained in a yield of 1440 kg is a soft, kneadable, plastic, but non-sticky product of very light color.
You can add 100 kg of paraffin to every 400 kg of this product while melting, which improves tack. For the esterification of fatty and wax acids, 30 g of polyglycol can be used instead of 150 kg of ethylene glycol. Example e 40 kg of castor oil are heated with 60 kg of a product obtained from montan wax according to British Patent 308 996 while passing in gaseous hydrochloric acid at 160 ° for 5 hours. The product obtained in a yield of 96 kg is, like that obtainable according to Example i, a soft, kneadable plastic material which is similar to beeswax and which can be used in the same way.
Example 3 40 kg of fatty acids obtained from castor oil are heated to 160 ° for 5 hours with 601 of a product obtained from montan wax according to British patent 3o8996 while passing in gaseous hydrochloric acid. Then 20 kg of polyglycol monoethyl ether are added and the mixture is heated to 120 ° for a further 3 hours. The product obtained in a yield of 112 kg is very similar to that obtainable according to Example 12, but a little softer than this. Example 4 7 kg of fatty acids obtained from coconut oil, 3.5 kg of stearin, 5 kg of ethylene glycol, 3 kg of wool fat and 90 kg of a product which, according to British patent 320854, are treated by treating 80 kg of a montan wax according to British patent 308996 are heated available product, i received 5 kg of paraffin and 5 kg of castor oil with air at elevated temperature, for 3 hours at 12o to 13o °. This gives 104 kg of a light-colored, soft, kneadable, beeswax-like product. Example s A mixture of 30 kg of a product obtainable from montan wax according to British patent 3o8996, 40 kg of a product which is shown according to example i of British patent 320854 , 5 kg of stearin, 10 g of fatty acids obtained from coconut oil and 5 kg of ethylene glycol is heated with addition from 1 kg of 50% sulfuric acid to 130 ° for 2 hours. Then 5 kg of barium oxide are added while stirring and heating is continued until the melt has become clear again. This gives 90 kg of a light-colored, waxy product that is roughly between beeswax and carnauba wax in terms of hardness and can be used as an additive in the manufacture of polishers, creams and the like to regulate the consistency. EXAMPLE 6 100 kg of bleached montan wax, 20 kg of palm kernel oil fatty acids, 10 kg of benzoic acid and 5 kg of wool fat fatty acids are heated with 150 kg of glycerol after adding 0.5 kg of sulfuric acid to 10 ° to 130 ° with stirring for 5 hours. The product obtained in a yield of 185 kg essentially corresponds to that obtained according to Example i; however, it is a little softer. Example? 2o kg of coconut fatty acids and 51, - naphthenic acids are mixed with 7 kg of glycol while stirring i /. Heated to 16o ° for an hour. Then 100 kg of a monochrome wax bleached in aqueous 30 to 600% sulfuric acid at 100 to 120 ° with at least 100% Cr03 are added. The mixture is heated for a further hour with stirring to 120 ° to 130 °, then 9 kg of benzyl alcohol are added and heating is continued for a further hour. The product obtained in a yield of 135k- is a soft, plastic, waxy substance.
Example 8 20 kg of coconut fatty acids and 5 kg of stearin are heated to 120 ° for 1/2 hour with stirring with 8 kg of glycol. 100 kg of montan wax bleached according to the method of British patent 308996 are then added and the mixture is heated to 120 ° for a further 4 hours; then add 2kg calcium oxide to the melt and stir until the melt has become clear again.
The product obtained according to this example in a yield of 129 kg differs from the previous one in that it is somewhat harder, but it has a much higher oil binding capacity.
