Die durch / in das Hahngehäuse eintretende Druckluft gelangt durch die Löcher b² im Rohr b in den Hohlraum c. Ueberwiegt die Spannung der Druckluft gegenüber der im Fafs herrschenden Spannung, so nimmt die Luft aus dem Hohlraum c ihren Weg durch die Schlitze b\ den darüber gespannten Gummischlauch d abdrängend, in der Richtung der Pfeile nach dem Innern des Gehäuses g und von hier weiter in das Fafs. Sobald Gleichgewicht der beiden in Frage kommenden Spannungen eintritt, legt sich der Gummischlauch d vermöge seiner Elasticität fest an -das Rohr b an, verschliefst dadurch die Schlitze b^x und hindert somit das Bier am Eindringen in den Hohlraum c.
