Process for deodorization of raw montan wax The use of
Raw montan wax fails for certain purposes because of its odor, albeit a weak one,
while its other properties are just right cheap. It has now been shown
that this smell is not a property of the most characteristic and principal
Components of the raw montan wax, but that it is mainly caused
is due to the presence of a very small, non-uniform part, the
in the isolated 'state smells intense, while the raw montan wax freed from it
has become useful. It has also been shown that the odorous
Constituents are characterized by significantly higher vapor densities, so that with the appropriate
The wax is heated (to about 170 to t75 °) by introducing ordinary or
pressurized steam can be distilled off with or without the use of vacuum.
At the specified temperatures neither the other ingredients nor distill
they decompose. The latter is very important because, when it decomposes, new odor carriers
appear. It is known to use raw montan wax with or without vacuum with steam
or with the use of inert gases for the purpose of obtaining purified montan wax
to distill. The hallmark of this distillation is that it is refined
Product occurs as a distillate and the distillation is carried out to such an extent that montan pitch
remains as a residue.
The present invention also uses steam or vacuum and steam, but aims to achieve a completely different effect insofar as heat, steam and vacuum are only supposed to have the effect of distilling off a few percent of worthless substances from the raw montan wax which cause the unpleasant odor of the raw montan wax whereas the refined product, namely the deodorized raw bitumen, was not subjected to any distillation, but remains in an amount of around 8% of the starting material and differs only slightly from the raw bitumen in its physical and chemical constants, while that according to the known processes cleaned material is very different from raw bitumen in this respect too.
The following examples with the same material serve as a more detailed explanation
serve: t. Toookg raw montan wax are melted in a distillation kettle
and a strong stream of water vapor is passed into the mass, causing the heating
of the boiler and the temperature of the steam so
be regulated that
the temperature of the boiler contents never. about about ,. i75 ° rises. Within an-i7- "time
distill from about ro to 15 hours with the. Steam about 2% of the mass that
in the condenser as greasy, weakly colored, extremely unpleasant smelling
Body precipitates.
The distillation is carried out as in i, only by application
the distilling off of the stinking body is supported by vacuum.
In one of the well-known, uninterrupted distillation apparatuses working according to the countercurrent principle, steam or superheated steam run against steam or superheated steam every hour. The temperature of the steam and the flow rate are again regulated so that the temperature inside the apparatus does not rise above about 175 ° C. At an average running speed of about 8 minutes, the odorous body is completely separated off.
