Description
Method - for creating bearing points for the navigation of aircraft The invention relates to a method for creating bearing points for the Navigating over parts of the earth's surface that are not suitable for bearing Have points, such as when navigating over a lake, snow or ice surface or over deserts.
It is known for the navigation of aircraft on the open sea to create such points required for the anger of any bearings by letting colored or smoke-emitting bombs fall into the water from the aircraft. This method has the major disadvantage that the 1, marking points created by this lie behind the course of the aircraft and, from experience , bearings to the aft are imprecise and difficult. Therefore, with this method, the marker points have to be flown to again for the purpose of locating, which, however, requires time, unpleasant maneuvers and skill on the part of the pilot as well as a special observer. In addition, the marking point coinint when executing the maneuvers, e.g. B. as a result of obscuring by the aircraft tilting here, easily out of sight, so that it is difficult or impossible to find despite the special observer. Furthermore, in the case of long transocean flights, the considerable additional weight caused by carrying the required large number of such bombs is disadvantageous. To avoid these disadvantages, the invention consists in that, in order to form the bearing points, one or more projectiles are fired in the direction of flight forward or laterally ahead of the vehicle against the surface of the water or earth concerned. As a result of the impact and in the water by the air entrained, marking points are generated on the surface in front of the aircraft in the direction of flight. The aircraft can thus aim for the successive impact points with the devices on board without any reversal or other maneuvers, make the determinations necessary for the tavigation and thereby determine the course to be actually steered.
The method according to the invention is shown schematically in the drawing illustrated in several embodiments.
Assuming the aircraft wants to reach point B from a known location A as shown in Fig . d, e, f. The pilot now tries to make his vehicle fly exactly over the line c, d, e, f , whereby he compensates for the influence of the wind by holding the wind to port or starboard depending on the direction of the wind. The actual heading found in this way will now be adhered to when continuing the voyage.
Another major advantage of the method is that the pilot can check his course as often as he likes, without a loop or anything else To have to change course before this re-examination.
In Fig. 2 the course influence is indicated by the arrow ff '. The aircraft flies at the angle ip to the course direction AT, which is indicated by the arrow K. In order to check the heading again, the projectile impacts c, d, e, f are now produced in the seal of the connecting line AB, and the necessary course improvement is then determined. By flying over points c, d, e, f , the desired improvement is found and at the same time the flight speed is stopped in a known manner.
These two procedures can also be used in reverse or independently run from each other.
Several points of impact can either be through consecutive ones Firing of shots from the same weapon can be generated or in such a way that one the runs a, as indicated schematically in Fig. 3, are arranged in a fan-like manner one above the other and firing all barrels at the same time.
The possibility of using the fixed marking points generated in this way for the navigation of the aircraft are of various kinds and 'are limited not only on the aforementioned determination of drift and speed.
In Fig. 4, for example, the process is shown schematically in an application for airships. In this case, two upstrokes a ', b' are generated from two weapons is known, then nian can also determine the exact altitude of the aircraft, e.g. with a range finder with a base at the target.
In many cases the impacts will be from ordinary projectiles sufficient to generate visible impact points. The visibility and duration the projectile surcharge can, however, be increased by using suitable funds. this can e.g. B. can be achieved by using such projectiles, as a result of their Entrain as much air as possible, like bullets with blunt or indented Pointed (Dum Duin bullets) or with ribbed, notched or otherwise interrupted or robbed surface. You can also use hollow projectiles as shown in Fig. 5, which are filled with a means suitable for special identification of the surcharge are e.g. B. with a powder or liquid colorant. In this case the front opening of the cavity is provided with a Nerschluß, which is at The bullet hits the water. Explosive projectiles, possibly used in conjunction with colorants, or projectiles with timed ignition will.
