Quecksilberdampfgleichrichter Die Erfmdung betrifft Gleichrichter,
Mercury vapor rectifier The invention relates to rectifiers,
which are connected to a pump: which only have a relatively low vacuum
generated. It aims at a simplified design, eliminating the expensive high vacuum pump set
and greater operational reliability for large rectifiers. They used for this purpose
the otherwise uselessly lost heat energy of the mercury vapor for conservation
of high vacuum. The vapors and gases that are formed are passed through a nozzle arrangement,
which connects the arcuate space with the condensation space, driven and arrive
from there into the fore-vacuum, from which the gases can easily be pumped out. To the
Initiation of the mercury evaporation, a heating arrangement is provided in the cathode compartment.
The figure shows schematically in section the invention in a
Rectifier, which has a high and a fore-vacuum chamber.
Metallteilen in keinerlei leitender Verbindung steht.
The rectifier body a consists of the commonly used substances such. B. glass, porcelain, iron. It is open at the bottom and protrudes with this open part in the vessel b made of insulating material, for. B. porcelain, glass, similar to what is known for rectifiers with Mercury barometer closures. The space between the wall of the body a and the wall of the insulating body b is filled with mercury for an airtight seal, which, as can be seen from the figure, has no conductive connection whatsoever with the live metal parts. The insulating bodies b are housed in a vessel or envelope h which contains the mercury that is used to conduct electricity. The spaces r serve as fore-vacuum spaces, while f are the high-vacuum spaces. The current feed takes place through the vessel walls h. From here the current flows via the lines l to the anodes c. The arc forms between them and the cathode. In the insulating body b of the cathode compartment, a heating device, for. B. a wire spiral d, embedded in such a way that it is protected against the mercury. It also allows the mercury to evaporate without the rectifier being in operation. The vapor rises in .dem arc space f and reaches the nozzle arrangement s and through this into the condensation space surrounded by a cooling device k. The mercury precipitating here is fed back into the fore-vacuum space of the cathode, where it supplements the cathode mercury, while the air that is carried along at the same time can easily be removed from the fore-vacuum space.
If the necessary air evacuation has occurred through this heating, the
Current of the heating coil interrupted, and the mercury vapor of the arc worried
the further maintenance of the high vacuum automatically.
