Für Brauzwecke wird die Gerste bekanntlich auf trockenem Wege von fremdartigen Beimischungen durch verschiedene Maschinen gereinigt. Jedoch gelang es bisher nicht, den an dem Gerstenkorne festsitzenden feinen Staub, Sand, anklebende Schmutztheilchen und besonders den in der Spalte befindlichen Unrath zu entfernen, ohne die Keimfähigkeit des Gerstenkornes zu beeinträchtigen.For brewing purposes, it is well known that barley is free from foreign admixtures in a dry way cleaned by different machines. Die Maschine wird auf der Grundplatte d¹ vermittelst in einander gekuppelter Säulen cP aufgebaut und durch die Fachwände d in drei Etagen getheilt. Die Etage B mit den beiden Zuführungsbürsten b¹ besteht aus einem cylindrischen Raum, in welchem sich die zwei Zuführungsbürsten b¹ horizontal bewegen, die Gerste im Wasser leicht bebürsten und durch die Oeffnunge¹ der Etage C zuführen. DieEtagenC und D bestehen jede aus der an der hohlen, aufrechten Welle festsitzenden Bürstentrommel c und der Mantelbürste c¹. Die Bürstentrommel wird von vier Armen a¹ getragen, welche zugleich die oben angeführten Wasserzuleitungsrohre bilden, an der hohlen Welle eingeschraubt und an der eigentlichen Trommel mit Flantschen verbunden sind, über welche die auf Kupferband eingezogene Bürste gespannt wird. Die Trommelarme a¹ lassen das Wasser von den in der hohlen Welle E eingeführten Wasserzuführungsrohren α nach dem zwischen Trommel c und Bürstenmantel c^l befindlichen Arbeitsfeld zufliefsen. Der äufsere Bürstenmantel c¹ besteht aus einem Kupferband mit eingezogenen, 20 mm langen Bürstenfasern wie die der Trommelbürste, ungefähr 30 mm Arbeitsraum zwischen dieser und dem ersteren freilassend. Neben den Bürstenfasern ist der Mantel mit kleinen Schlitzen versehen, durch welche das verunreinigte Wasser verdrängt wird, so dafs stets reines Wasser die Gerste während der Abbürstung bespült. Auch wird durch den Mantel von der Aufsenseite durch die Rohre a² reines Wasser zugeleitet. Von der Etage C fällt die Gerste durch die entgegengesetzt angebrachte Oeffnung e auf die Etage D. In dieser befindet sich der Auslauf E\ darunter eine Transportschnecke oder ein Paternosterwerk zur Fortschaffung der gereinigten Gerste in die Einweichbehälter.
