Abstract
Description
It is a well known fact that silver, even if it not in use, "starts off". It's only a matter of time before it dark, brownish, bluish to blue-black spots or gets overall discolored and thus tarnished in the usual language.
The reason for this is in most cases the special sensitivity of the Silver surface compared to sulphurous gases, as in the surrounding ambient air.
Also in the machine cleaning of silver always occur in practice again problems in the form of tarnishing and discoloration of the silver surfaces on. Of course, silver also reacts here to sulphurous sub punching, which are dissolved or dispersed in the rinse water, because in the Rei Cleaning dishes in household dishwashers (HGSM) will be yes Leftovers and thus u. a. also mustard, peas, egg and other sulfur containing compounds such as mercapto amino acid introduced into the rinsing liquor. These food particles are the main cause of the tarnish tarnish This is mainly due to the formation of colored silver complex compounds declining. Also the much higher tempe during the mechanical rinsing and the longer contact times with the sulfur-containing feed In comparison to manual rinsing, the formation of Sil favors Due to the intensive cleaning process in the dishwasher, the Silver surface also completely degreased and therefore more sensitive against chemical influences.
When using active chlorine-containing cleaner, the tarnishing by Sulfur compounds are largely prevented because these Ver bonds by oxidation of sulfidic functions in secondary reaction be converted to sulfones or sulfates.
However, the problem of silvering became acute again, as an alternative to the active chlorine compounds active oxygen compounds, such as As sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate were used, which for the removal of bleachable soils, such as Teeflec ken / Teebeläge, coffee residues, vegetable dyes, lipstick remnants and the like.
These active oxygen compounds are combined with bleach activators especially in modern low alkaline machine dishwashing detergents of the new Used cleaner generation. These modern means exist in general from the following function modules: complexing agent / dispersing agent medium, alkali carrier (builders), bleach system (bleach + Bleach activator), enzyme system and wetting agent (surfactants).
On the changed recipe parameters of the new active chlorine-free Reini gergeneration with lowered pH values and activated oxygen bleaching The silver surfaces are generally more sensitive. During the Machine washing put this means in the cleaning process actually Bleaching agent hydrogen peroxide or active oxygen free. The lead The active effect of the active oxygen-containing cleaners is bleached by bleaching agents amplified so that even at low temperatures a good Bleaching effect is achieved. In the presence of these bleach activators forms itself as a reactive intermediate peracetic acid. Under these changes The rinsing conditions in the presence of silver are not only sul fiddly, but by the oxidizing attack of the intermediate structure Peroxide or the active oxygen preferably oxidic coatings on the Silver surfaces. Under high salt load can additionally chloridi cal deposits arise. The tarnishing of the silver is reinforced as well due to higher residual water hardness during the cleaning cycle.
So has the problem of tarnishing silver surfaces especially with the Introduction of active oxygen containing instead of active chlorine Dishwashing detergents have become more important.
The avoidance of sulfidic, oxidic or chloridic deposits on Ta felsilber is therefore the subject of numerous publications. The startup of silver is in these descriptions mainly by so-called Sil Preservatives prevented.
Thus, from "Soap & Chemical Spec.", 46, No. 4 (1970), page 33, maschi dishwashing detergent containing pentasodium tri phosphate, sodium metasilicate, alkali carbonate and alkali perborate. They work at pH values of 10.0 to 10.4 and are still activator-free. In German Auslegeschrift 12 79 877 is a method for mechanical Dishwashing described using flushing agents, in which Per compounds and activators (catalysts) for these - among others Fatty acid manganese salts - in the form of separate granules available. As peroxy compounds also come organic peracids or their salts. Such funds should be persistent Eliminate starch films. A supplementary addition of unspecified Corrosion inhibitors are recommended.
In German Auslegeschrift 13 02 394 are mechanically applicable Dishwashing described, which also alkali metal salts and a Bleach activator may contain. They also contain more Enzymes and may therefore instead of the usually strongly alkaline pH-who Only have a pH of 7-9. From the British Pa No. 1,131,738, alkaline dishwashing detergents are known which are known as Corrosion inhibitor for silver containing benzotriazoles. In the america niche patent specification 3 549 539 become highly alkaline, by machine reversible dishwashing detergents described as oxidizing agents u. a. May contain perborate with an organic bleach activator. When Start-up prevention agents will become addictive. a. also from benzotriazole and also iron (III) chloride recommended. Application examples are missing. From German Auslegeschrift 16 95 219 it is known that acylated organic substances as activators for per compounds everywhere can set where to use peroxy compounds, u. a. at the passiv aluminum or other light metal surfaces. It will be called pH values of preferably 7-11.5. In the European patent 135 226 and 135 227 are mildly alkaline machines dishwashing detergent containing peroxy compounds and Akti vators described as silver protectants u. a. Benzotriazoles and Contain fatty acids. European Patent 145 090 protects alkaline, also suitable for machine dishwashing Detergent compositions, the peroxy compounds and as actives tor for this one in aqueous solution manganese (II) ions supplying compound As well as sodium silicate and their aqueous solutions have a pH of 9.5-13. You can still use surface-active compounds and additionally known organic peroxide activators contain what but not exemplified. The bleaching effect of the peroxy compound There is no mention of the effects of tea stains on the addition of manganese (II) salt acti strengthened. Finally, from the German patent application 41 28 672 known that peroxy compounds by addition of known or ganic bleach activators are activated in strongly alkaline purees prevent the tarnishing of silver parts.
The prior art is not apparent that weakly alkaline Rei containing peroxygenates by addition known bleach activators such as tetraacetylethylenediamine or about Manganese sulfate can be activated, although due to the increased oxygen bleach the effective removal of tea stains, simultaneously but the start of simultaneously exposed to this cleaning process Silver cutlery during cleaning in dishwashers unexpected teterweise favor.
It has now surprisingly been found that weakly alkaline Reinigungsmit for automatic dishwashing based on builders and preferably enzymes with a content of peracids or with organi bleach activators combined peroxy compounds, other übli chen constituents of such agents and optionally a content known low-foaming nonionic surfactants and pH values of about 8 to <10 in 1% aqueous solutions containing an addition of redox compounds, the tarnishing of silverware during the Rei prevent the cleaning process.
The claimed redox agents affect the redox potential of the Reini gerflotte, and prevent the oxidation of the silver surface. This Ef can be quantified by electrochemical measurements. This is even more surprising than neither by the addition of these redox agents alone the known organic bleach activators such as tetraacetylethylenediamine Alone to active oxygen-containing weak alkaline Geschirreinigungs means both tarnishing of silver and simultaneously Teebelag on dishes can be removed sufficiently well.
The composition of the cleaning agents according to the invention corresponds in essentially the known weakly alkaline, machine applicable Dishwashing detergent containing active oxygen carriers in the form of peracids or per compounds such as sodium perborate, preferably sodium Perborate monohydrate (see "Surfactants" 27 (1990), pages 52-56) or Percarbonate. As builders, polymeric alkali metal phosphates, alkali silicates, alkali carbonates, alkali bicarbonates, alkali salts organi shear carboxylic acids and / or organic polymers on native or synthetic tischer basis are used. To improve the wetting effect may optionally still small additions of low-foaming not ionic surfactants take place. Preferably, the funds should also ver various enzyme additives, one or more of which are included, such as Amyla sen, proteases, lipases and / or cellulases.
The active oxygen carriers are primarily sodium perborate mono- and tetrahydrate or sodium percarbonate. Because of the shoals compacted sodium perborate monohydrate is preferred. But also the use of stabilizing example with boron compounds Sodium percarbonate (German Offenlegungsschrift 33 21 082) has Vor Parts, as this is particularly favorable to the corrosion behavior Affects glasses. Since active oxygen only at elevated temperatures of only unfolds its full effect, its activation at about 60 ° C, the approximate temperatures of the cleaning process in the HGSM, so-called bleach activators used. Be used as bleach activators be preferably TAED (tetraacetylethylenediamine), but also PAG (Pentaacetylglu cose), DADHT (1,5-diacetyl-2,2-dioxo-hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine) and ISA (Isatoic anhydride). Moreover, the addition of small amounts be known bleach stabilizers such as phosphonates, Borates or metaborates and metasilicates and magnesium salts such as Ma magnesium sulfate. The proportion of active oxygen carriers in the total mean is about 5 to 20, preferably about 5 to a total of about 10 wt .-%, in particular 0-15, preferably about 5 to 10 wt .-% sodium perborate or 0-20, preferably about 5 to 12 wt .-% sodium percarbonate where either perborate or percarbonate must be present, and the proportion of the bleach activator is about 1 to 8, preferably about 2 to 6 wt .-%.

As the polymeric alkali metal phosphates usually come in rinsing and cleaning mixtures of condensed phosphates used, the in the form of their alkaline neutral or acidic sodium or potassium salts may be present. As alkali metal carbonates can preferably anhydrous, but also crystal hydrous compounds and naturally occurring forms, for example Example Trona (Na₂CO₃ × NaHCO₃ (Solvay) are used.) Are preferred Sodium carbonate and trona, their amounts about 0 to 20, preferably about 7 to 12 wt .-% or about 0 to 40, preferably about 14 to 24 wt .-% be bear in relation to the entire remedy. With these quantities you stay in the Framework of the EC Dangerous Preparations Directive.
Are significantly higher levels of soda or disilicate such as 10 or 5 % By weight, the pH of the 1% detergent formulation increases over the desired weak alkaline range of preferably about 9.0 to 9.5. For the preparation of the compositions according to the invention may optionally Na triumsalze of homo- or copolymeric (meth) acrylic acids (as a polymer) with Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate in any mixer, presented for example in a plowshare mixer and then under Addition of liquids such as water, a nonionic surfactant or granulated liquid poly (meth) acrylate agglomerating, the thus obtained Granules optionally in a second granulation stage to a uniform grain distribution set it under motion in a warm dried air stream, fine and coarse fractions sieved and then with a bleach, a bleach activator, the redox substance and given if a bleach stabilizer, perfume, enzymes, nonionic surfactants trisodium citrate dihydrate and / or dyes.
The trisodium citrate dihydrate may also be present in the first granulati be added on. Since the alkali carbonate content the alkalinity of Product strongly affected, the drying must be carried out so that the bicarbonate decomposition of the sodium bicarbonate to sodium car as low as possible (or at least as constant as possible). One too In addition, by the drying resulting sodium carbonate content would have namely be taken into account in the formulation of the granular formulation. Low drying temperatures do not only affect the sodium hydro but also increase the solubility of the granulated detergent in the application. It is therefore advantageous When drying a supply air temperature, on the one hand to avoid the Hydrogen carbonate decay should be as low as possible and the On the other hand, it must be as high as necessary to produce a product with good storage properties. When drying, a supply air temperature is preferred of about 80 ° C. The granules themselves should not reach temperatures above about 60 ° C are heated. In contrast to the manufacturing process, the Zer Case of sodium bicarbonate in the later application in Reini gungsverfahren in the dishwasher quite desirable, because here By the alkalinity of the fleet and thus their cleaning performance increased. The in situ formation of sodium carbonate (eye irritant and irritating to the skin) from sodium bicarbonate (non-irritating) defused Ge drive for the consumer, z. B. if not intended use through children.
Die Anwendungskon zentrationen in der Reinigungsflotte betragen etwa 2 bis 8 g/l, vorzugs weise 2 bis 5 g/l.The means to be used can be used both in household dishwashers as used in commercial dishwashers. The addition takes place by hand or by means of suitable metering devices. The application con concentrations in the cleaning liquor are about 2 to 8 g / l, preferably wise 2 to 5 g / l.
The wash program is generally followed by some on the cleaning cycle following intermediate rinses with clear water and a rinse with added to a common rinse aid and finished. After drying you not only get a completely clean and hygienic one wall-free dishes, but above all, practically bright-shining Sil berbesteckteile.
A differentiation of the effect of a bleaching system may be due to the visu elle assessment of the cleaning performance of tea stains contaminated tea cups and the lack of tarnish on rinsed silverware parts respectively. The corresponding implementation is described in the following examples play described.

Probenvorbereitung:
Sample preparation:
For the investigations, silver wire (d = 2 mm, 99.99%) was used as sample material instead of silver cutlery. From this silver wire in each case about 10 cm long pieces were cut off and the immersed in the measuring solution a dipping part of the sample with SiC sandpaper (600 grit) sanded fen. The samples were then rinsed well with double-distilled water and any adhering residues were wiped off with a lint-free cloth. If necessary, this process was repeated several times until the sample visually left a perfect impression. After grinding the samples, they were immediately used for the measurement to forestall reaction of the metallic silver with the laboratory air. The effective sample surface immersed in the solution was 0.70 cm 2.
Elektrolyte und Elektroden:
Die Experimente wurden in einer Duran-Glaszelle durchgeführt. Als Meßelek
troden dienten die erwähnten Silberdrähte (A = 0,70 cm²).
Electrolytes and electrodes:
The experiments were carried out in a Duran glass cell. As Meßelek electrodes served the mentioned silver wires (A = 0.70 cm²). The counterelectrode consisted of a gold foil (99.99%) with an area of 1 cm². As a reference electrode, a Hg / HgO / 0.1 m NaOH electrode was selected based on the alkaline electrolyte solutions, which was connected via a Haber-Luggin-Ka pillar with the electrolyte. The measurements were carried out with 5 g / l of cleaner in tap water of 16 ° d and a salt load of about 600 mg (dry residue).
When preparing the cleaning solutions, the cleaner backbone was initially used dissolved and the solution heated to 65 ° C. Immediately before the measurement, the Bleach component and the bleach activator and / or the redox substance added give. This was followed by the electrochemical measurement. While the electro In chemical experiments, the electrolyte solutions were heated to 65 ° C and rinsed with air.
erniedrigt. Hierzu diente ein Standardpotentiostat bestehend aus Mitkopp
lungsverstärker, Differenzverstärker, Addierer und Impedanzwandler, sowie
ein Funktionsgenerator (Prodis 16 der Firma Intelligent Controls CLZ
GmbH).Apparatus and recording of the measured curves:
To record the current-voltage curves, the electrode potential, starting from -0.62, V with respect to the standard hydrogen electrode (SHE), was increased at a constant rate. After a total increase of 1.1 V, the potential was then lowered at the same rate. For this purpose, a standard potentiostat consisting of Mitkopp tion amplifier, differential amplifier, adder and impedance converter, and a function generator (Prodis 16 Intelligent Controls CLZ GmbH) was used.
The characterization of the corrosion behavior was based on electricity voltage curves. Essential information comes from zero current-voltage curve (rest potential, which can also be Self-adjusting potential influence) and the slope of the curve on the Zero crossing (reciprocal polarization resistance) E. Heitz, R. Henkhaus, A. Rahmel, "corrosion in the experiment" Verlag Chemie (1983), pages 31 ff .; H. Kaesche, "The corrosion of metals", 2nd edition, Springer Verlag (1979), pages 117 ff. This shifts by the addition of the redox connect the potential of the zero crossing to lower values and the Gradient decreases. So the silver corrosion by the addition of Re dox compounds also considerably reduced by electrochemical measurement.
