Process for the preparation of alkali salts of naphthasulphonic acid. When the mineral oils are refined with sulfuric acid, after the acid resin has been stripped off, an acidic oil is obtained, from which the acidic constituents are extracted in suitable proportions by treatment with lye and alcohol. The lower liquor obtained is salted out with common salt and in this way a concentrated waste liquor is obtained which contains an average of 30 percent sodium naphthasulfonate, 30 percent mineral oil, varying amounts of salt and free alkali.
Natrium, sondern ein Gemisch von naphthasulfosaurem und schwefelsaurem Natrium;
Up to now, no technical route has been given for the pure preparation of sodium naphthasulfonate; However, since sodium naphthasulphate is of particular value for commercial purposes, the representation of the legs appeared to be of particular importance. In order to expose the legs, it is primarily necessary to remove the mineral oil and salts. According to patent 31070 it is possible to pull off the mineral oil by injection. Furthermore, according to patent 350299, it is possible to remove the salts by repeated washing with dilute, approximately gop%, sulfuric acid. In this way, a mineral oil-free, salt-free naphthasulfonic acid is obtained which contains about g percent sulfuric acid. This sulfonic acid is suitable for splitting fat, since an amount of sulfuric acid is added for fat splitting which is significantly greater than the amount of sulfuric acid that gets into the sulfonic acid as a result of the refining mentioned above. However, if the mixture of sulfonic acid and a little sulfuric acid is neutralized with alkali, then naturally no pure sodium naphthasulfonic acid is obtained, but a mixture of sodium naphthasulfonic acid and sodium sulfuric acid; on the other hand, severe smearing occurs. This normal route is not feasible, but the following MIeg has proven to be useful. The sulphonic acid containing sulphonic acid is dissolved in alcohol and digested with anhydrous sodium carbonate until a neutral reaction occurs. It turns out, surprisingly, that the neutralization is completely successful without the carbonic acid alkali being used in solution. Sodium sulfuric acid is insoluble in this process. The result must be all the more striking as anhydrous sodium carbonate is completely insoluble in alcohol and complete neutralization in this way must have seemed hopeless from the outset.
After neutralization with carbonate of alkali, it is allowed to settle,
if necessary, filter and distill the. Fuel off. In this way the naphthasulfonic acids
Alkali salts obtained in pure form and neutral reaction. These are in waters
Easily soluble and can be used with advantage for the purposes of the textile and leather industry
to be used.
In this case, it appears expedient to carry out the de-oiling after the preparation of the free sulfonic acid, in contrast to the method of patent 310701, according to which the de-oiling is carried out before the preparation of the free sulphonic acid. It is also advisable to wash the precipitated sulfonic acid several times beforehand with dilute sulfuric acid in order to remove the salts so that the addition of alcohol does not cause crystalline precipitations which would make stratification more difficult. The process is therefore briefly as follows: 100 kg of the alcoholic-alkaline base liquor, as it is obtained during operation, and which contains about 6 to 7 percent alcohol, becomes good with 25 kg of 50 percent sulfuric acid when heated to 50 to 60 ° C shaken. It is allowed to settle well, the washing acid which settles out at the bottom is drawn off and the sulfonic acid is treated two or three times in the same way with 50 percent sulfuric acid. The alcohol in the lower liquor is washed out in this way. If the extraction of the alcohol appears to be worthwhile, the alcohol can be obtained by distillation before treatment with sulfuric acid. After washing with sulfuric acid, the 95 percent amount of fuel required for de-oiling is added (generally 100 to 150 percent fuel is required). Depending on the amount of sulfonic acid and the respective weight of the mineral oil as well as the amount of fuel used, the mineral oil settles on the top or bottom. After removing the mineral oil, the alcoholic solution of the sulfonic acid with anhydrous sodium carbonate is shaken well, for example, until the Congo paper is no longer stolen. The excess soda and the sulphate of soda formed are allowed to settle, decanted, filtered if necessary and evaporated, the sulphate of soda being obtained as a mass that is liquid when heated and solidifies in the cold.
