Method of casting in solid forms using compressed air. To use
Pour in compressed air, a compressed air source is used, which is outside the
Pouring apparatus is. The air is regulated by a valve and presses on it
pouring metal, which flows from the container through a nozzle into the mold. Here
it is necessary to use special clamps to adjust the form, which is divided several times, according to the pressure
hold together.- The air to be compressed must also be used for heat dissipation
be taken care of, although this heating of the air is not detrimental to the casting
were. Rather, one gets the air all over again before it touches the cast metal
heat up again so as not to let the harmful cooling happen to it,
especially if the metal container is very small. The compressor and the supply line have
there is a large loss of compressed air, which becomes greater the greater
are the periods between each casting process.
The present new method is intended to remedy all of these nuisances
and result in a self-contained casting process. Through this procedure is intended
make it possible to accommodate the entire system in one compact machine. Of the
The process is to be explained in the following on the basis of the accompanying drawing.

n aufdreht (s. Abb.3). The crucible b with the molten material is placed in the cavity a, namely when the cylinder c is in the lower position, as indicated in FIG. Shape d will be housed in the frame when it is turned aside. This is then turned back, whereby the form d can be supported under the displaceable punch f. The cavity a is located in the upper part of a cylinder c, which leads to the rods gg. A piston / z located in the cylinder can be moved up and down by the crank i by means of the connecting rod. The crank is driven from the outside by a suitable gear ratio L. If the piston lz "moves downwards, the valve m will open for the purpose of the entry of air via the piston, while it will close during the upward movement. The air above the piston is during the compression by the valve n into the Penetrate cavity a and then press on the metal to press it into shape D. To achieve a sudden pressure of the air on the liquid metal, the tap -n can be controlled accordingly, in that the air only then enters the cavity If the piston has already covered a certain distance, this is achieved by controlling the cock by the piston h. An extension o is attached to the piston h which pulls a rod P up and down with it there is an adjustable cam q, which presses against the toggle lever r, which opens the cock n by means of the rod s (see Fig.3).
The process is now as follows: After the crucible with the metal has been placed in the cavity and the mold is in the correct position, the drive L is engaged. The piston moves upwards and compresses the air above it, while the cylinder c will first lift until the nozzle of the mold reaches into the metal and the mold itself is pressed against the punch f Seal t and also the joints of the form pressed together. The further piston now compresses the air more and more and this will, when the tap is opened, penetrate through this into the cavity and drive the metal into the mold. The pressure of the air will increase with the reduction of the space above the cylinder and will no longer only press on the metal, but also press the seal more tightly. A sudden impact of the air on the metal can be achieved by the aforementioned control of the valve n. When the air is compressed, it will heat up and since the supply line is very short, the transition takes place very quickly, the heat received also on the casting metal transfer. The heat dissipation to the cylinder walls will also be an advantage, since with continuous operation the parts for the purpose of one. good flow of the metal do not need to be heated. The piston will immediately go down again after reaching the dead center position and take the lost air again through the valve, but also lift the cylinder off the mold so that the molding nozzle is immediately free again and cannot freeze in the relatively small crucible. The crank will then remain in the lowest position, so that after the crucible has been refilled and an empty mold has been reinserted, the game can be restarted. A one-time adjustment of the cam q always ensure a g e ichbleibenden pressure, which is often difficult to achieve in a compressor system. The method is by no means tied to the shape of such a machine described, the cylinder can just as well be attached at the top as well as at the side so that it can act on the mold clamping by means of a suitable translation.
