Feldsequentielle Farbdarstellung mit einer Lichtquelle,einer farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtung,die Licht aufnimmt und eine erste Absorptionsachse für den Durchgang von linear polarisiertem Licht einer ersten Farbe und eine zweite Absorptionsachse für den Durchgang von linear polarisiertem Licht einer zweiten Farbe aufweist, wobei die erste und die zweite Absorptionsachse im wesentlichen rechtwinklig in einer Ebene ausgerichtet sind, die das Licht empfängt,mit einer linearen Polarisationsvorrichtung, die zu den farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtungen im Abstand gehalten angeordnet sind, wobei die Absorptionsachse der linearen Polarisationsvorrichtungen im wesentlichen in derselben Ausrichtung wie die erste Absorptionsachse der farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtungen ausgerichtet ist undmit einer veränderlichen optischen Verzögerungsvorrichtung, die zwischen den farbsensitiven Polarisationsvor richtungen angeordnet ist und optisch mit ihnen in Verbindung steht, wobei die optische veränderliche Verzögerungsvorrichtung zwei mit Licht kommunizierende Flächen aufweist, dadurch gekennzeichnet,daß die Verzögerungsvorrichtung (12) im wesentlichen eine Haibwellenverzögerung von Licht der zweiten Farbe erzeugt und so ausgerichtet ist, daß die Projektion ihrer optischen Achse (36) auf jede der beiden mit Licht kommunizierenden Flächen (37) im wesentlichen im Winkel von 45° mit Bezug auf jede der ersten und zweiten Absorptionsachsen angeordnet ist unddaß Schaltvorrichtungen (24,26), die mit der veränderlichen optischen Verzögerungsvorrichtung in Verbindung steht, um erste und zweite Schaltzustände zu erzeugen, wobei der erste Schaltzustand im wesentlichen verminderte Verzögerung von Licht der ersten und zweiten Farbe durch die veränderliche optische Verzögerungsvorrichtung erzeugt, um die Übertragung von Licht in nur der zweiten Farbe durch die lineare Polarisationsvorrichtung zu gestatten und der zweite Schaltzustand im wesentlichen Haibwellenverzögerung von Licht der zweiten Farbe durch die veränderliche optische Verzögerungsvorrichtung erzeugt, um die Übertragung von Licht in nur der ersten Farbe durch die lineare Polarisationsvorrichtung zu gestatten.
- 2. Farbdarstel1ungssystem gemäß Anspruch 1
dadurch gekennzeichnet,daß die farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtungen (14,16,18) erste und zweite pleochroisehe, lineare Polarisationsvorrichtungen (14,16) aufweisen, wobei die Absorptionsachse der ersten pleochroisehen Polarisationsvorrichtung (14) mit der ersten Absorptionsachse der farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtung (18) zusammenfällt und die Absorptionsachse der zweiten pleochroisehen Polarisationsvorrichtung (14) mit der zweiten Absorptionsachse der farbsensitiven Polarisationsvorrichtung (18) zusammenfällt. - 3. Farbdarstellungssystem gemäß Anspruch 1 oder Ansprüchen 1 und 2,dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß das von der Lichtquelle (22) ausgesandte Licht synchron mit den Schaltvorrichtungen (24,26) moduliert wird, um ein Bild vielfarbiger Erscheinung zu erzeugen. - 4. Farbdarstel1ungssystem gemäß Anspruch 1,dadurch gekennzeichnet,daß die veränderliche optische Verzögerungsvorrichtung (12) eine Flüssigkristal1 ze!Ie (100) mit Flüssigkristal Imateri al-Ausrichtungslei tern (120) aufweist, wobei die Flüssigkristallzelle (100) auf in.die Zelle durch die ersten und zweiten Schaltzustände der Schaltvorrichtungen (24,26) eingeführte elektrische Felder von verschiedenen Intensitäten anspricht, wobei der erste Schaltzustand ein elektrisches Feld mit höherer Intensität erzeugt, das die Leiter (120) sich im wesentlichen End-zu-End in einer Richtung, die parallel zu den Flußlinien (121) des elektrischen Feldes läuft,- ausrichten läßt und der zweite Schaltzustand ein elektrisches Feld mit geringerer Intensität erzeugt, das die Leiter (120) aus der End-zu-End-Ausf1uchtung entweichen läßt, in welcher eine Komponente eines jeden von einer beträchtlichen Anzahl der Leiter (120) auf die Flächen der Zelle projiziert wird.
- 5. Farbdarstel1ungssystem ähnlich einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 5,dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß die Flüssigkristallzelle (100) an ihren inneren sich gegenüberliegenden elektrisch leitenden Schichten (110 bzw. 110') je eine die berührenden Leitelemente (116bzw. 118) im Neigungswinkel (- Θ) gegensinnig vorspannende Schicht (112,112') aufweist. - 6. Farbdarstellung gemäß Anspruch 5,dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein erster vorspannender Neigungswinkel (+Θ) für die berührenden Leitelemente (116) zwischen 2° bis 5° und ein zweiter entgegengerichteter, vorspannender Neigungswinkel (-Θ) für die berührenden Leitelemente (118) zwi schen 10° und 30° erzielbar ist.
- 7. Farbdarstellung nach Anspruch 5 oder Ansprüchen 5 und 6 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die einen Neigungswinkel vorspannende Schicht (112 bzw. 112') aus aufgedampftem Si 1izium-Monoxid besteht und aufgerieben i st.
- 8. Farbdarstel1ungssystem gemäß Anspruch 1 oder einem oder mehreren der voraufgehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die veränderlichen optischen Verzögerungsvorrichtungen (12) eine Flüssigkri stal 1 zel Ie (100) aus einer Mi schung aus Flüssigkristallmaterial mit Ausfluchtungsleitern (120) und einer veränderlichen dielektrischen frequenzabhängigen Anisotropie aufweisen, wobei die Flüssigkri stal 1 ze! Ie (100) auf Signale verschiedener Frequenzen anspricht, die an die Zelle (100) durch die ersten und zweiten Schaltzustände der Schaltvorrichtungen (24,26) angelegt werden, wobei der erste Schaltzustand ein Signal mit einer niedrigeren Frequenz erzeugt, welches ein erstes sich änderndes elektrisches Feld innerhalb der Zelle (100) erzeugt, das die Leiter (120)sich in einer Richtung ausfluchten läßt, die parallel zu den Flußlinien (121) des ersten elektrischen Feldes verläuft und der zweite Schaltzustand ein Signal mit einer höheren Frequenz erzeugt, welches ein zweites sich änderndes elektrisches Feld innerhalb der Zelle (100) erzeugt, das die Leiter (120) sich in einer Richtung ausfluchten läßt, die nicht parallel zu den Flußlinien (121) des zweiten elektrischen Feldes verläuft.
- 9. Verfahren für die Verwendung einer Flüssigkristallzel1e gemäß einem oder mehreren der voraufgehenden Ansprüche als eine veränderliche Verzögerungsvorrichtung (12) mit relativ hoher Geschwindigkeit zum Verändern der Verzögerung von Licht (126), das durch sie von einer äußeren Quelle (22) übertragen wird, wobei die Flüssigkristallzelle (100) aus einem Flüssigkristallmaterial besteht, das Leiter (120) aufweist und zwischen einem Paar sich gegenüberliegender, im Abstand gehaltener optisch transparenter Elektrodenanordnungen (110,HO1) enthalten ist, von denen jede Elektrodenanordnung eine -Schicht von optisch transparentem und elektrisch leitendem Material aufweist und die Innenfläche (112,112') einer jeden Elektrodenanordnung so konditioniert ist, daß die Leiter (116,118) des Flüssigkristallmaterials, die sich damit in Berührung befinden, im wesentlichen gleichförmig ausgefluchtet werden, um mit den konditionierten Flächen Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) zu bilden, wobei die Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) der Leiter (116), die in Berührung mit den konditionierten Flächen (112,112') stehen in einem Drehsinn begrenzt sind, der den Neigungsvorspannungswinkelη der Leiter (118), die sich in Berührung mit den anderen konditionierten Flächen befinden, entgegengesetzt ist, mit den folgenden Stufen:Anlegen eines ersten Signals an die leitenden Schichten (110,110') der Zelle (100) zum Erzeugen eines elektri* sehen Feldes, um zumindest einige der f1ächennichtberührenden Leiter (120) zu einer ersten Konfiguration zu bringen, die ein erstes Maß von optischer Verzögerung durch die Zelle (100) von auf eine der. Flächen der Elektrodenanordnung fallendem Licht (126) erzeugt, und
Anlegen eines zweiten Signals an die leitenden Schichten (110,110') der Zelle (100) zur Veränderung des elektrisehen Feldes, um zumindest einige der f1ächennichtberührenden Leiter (120) in eine zweite Konfiguration zu bringen, die in einer relativ kurzen Zeit ein zweites Maß von optischer Verzögerung von auf eine der Flächen der Elektrodenanordnung einfallendem Licht (126) zu erzeugen. - 10. Verfahren für die Verwendung ei ner . F-I üssigkri stall zel Ie gemäß einem oder mehreren der voraufgehenden Ansprüche als eine veränderliche Verzögerungsvorrichtung (12) mit relativ hoher Geschwindigkeit zum Verändern von durch sie von einer äußeren Quelle (22) übertragenem Licht (126), wobei die Flüssigkristallzelle (100) Flüssigkristallmaterial (106) mit Leitern (120) aufweist und zwi sehen einem Paar von sich gegenüberliegenden, im Abstand gehaltenen, optisch transparenten Elektrodenanordnungen (110,110') enthalten ist, wobei jede Elektrodenanordnung (110,110') eine Schicht von optisch transparentem und leitendem Material aufweist und die Innenfläche einer jeden Elektrodenanordnung so konditioniert ist, daß die Leiter (116,118) des Flüssigkristallmaterials , die sich damit in Berührung befinden, im wesentlichen gleichmäßig ausgerichtet werden, um mit den konditionierten Flächen Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) zu bilden, wobei die Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) der Leiter (116), die7 -sich in Berührung mit einer konditionieren Fläche befinden, in einem Drehsinn begrenzt sind, · der den Neigungsvorspannungswinkelη (θ) der Leiter (118), die sich in Berührung mit der anderen Fläche befinden, entgegengesetzt ist, mit den folgenden Stufen:Anlegen eines ersten Signals an die leitenden Schichten (110,110') der Zelle (100) zum Erzeugen eines elektrischen Feldes, das eine beträchtliche Anzahl der flächen- nichtberührenden Leiter (120) veranlaßt, sich im wesentlichen End-zu-End in einer Richtung auszufluchten, die senkrecht zu den konditionierten Flächen verläuft, um eine wesentlich verminderte optische Verzögerung durch die Zelle (100) für auf eine der Flächen der Elektroden anordnungen einfallendes Licht (126) vorzusehen; undAnlegen eines zweiten Signals an die leitenden Schichten (110,110') der Zelle (100) zum Verändern des elektrischen Feldes, um zumindest einige der f1ächennichtberührenden Leiter (120) im Innern der Zelle zum Zurückwei- chen aus der End-zu-End-Ausfluchtung zu veranlassen, um in einer relativ kurzen Zeit eine wesentliche optische Halbwellenverzögerung von auf eine der Flächen der Elektrodenanordnungen einfallendem Licht (126) vorzusehen.
- 11. Verfahren zur Verwendung einer Flüssigkristal1 zelle gemäß einem oder mehreren der voraufgehenden Ansprüche als eine veränderliche Verzögerungsvorrichtung mit relativ hoher Geschwindigkeit zum Modulieren von durch sie von einer äußeren Quelle übertragenem Licht, wobei die Flüssigkristal1zel1e Flüssigkristallmaterial mit Leitern aufweist und zwischen einem Paar von sich gegenüberliegenden, im Abstand gehaltenen, optisch transparenten Elektrodenanordnungen enthalten ist, wobei jede Elektro denanordnung eine Schicht von optisch transparentem undelektrisch leitendem Material aufweist und die Innenfläche einer jeden Elektrodenanordnung so konditioniert ist, daß die Leiter des Flüssigkristallmaterialss die sich damit in Berührung befinden im wesentlichen gleichmäßig ausgerichtet werden, um mit den konditionierten Flächen Neigungsvorspannungswinkel zu bilden, wobei die Neigungsvorspannunswinkel der Leiter, die sich in Berührung mit einer konditionierten Fläche befinden, in einem Drehsinn begrenzt sind, der den Neigungsvorspannungswinkein der Leiter, die sich in Berührung mit der anderen Fläche befinden, entgegengesetzt ist, mit den folgenden Stufen:Anlegen eines ersten Signals an die leitenden Schichten der Zelle zum Erzeugen eines elektrischen Feldes, das eine beträchtliche Anzahl der f 1 ächennichtberührenden Leiter veranlaßt, sich im wesentlichen End-zu-End in einer Richtung auszufluchten, die senkrecht zu den konditionierten Flächen verläuft, um eine wesentlich ver-. minderte Verzögerung für durch die Zelle auf eine der Elektrodenflächen einfallendes Licht vorzuse-hen; undAnlegen eines zweiten Signals an die leitenden Schichten der Zelle zum Verändern des elektrischen Feldes und zum Veranlassen einer Wiederausfluchtung im Drehsinn der flächennichtberührenden Leiter, um im wesentlichen optische Haibwel1enverzögerung für auf eine der Elektrodenflächen einfallendes Licht vorzusehen, wobei die Wiederausfluchtung im Drehsinn der f1ächennichtberührenden Leiter stattfindet,dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Drehung einen gleichgerichteten Fluß von Flüssigkristal lmateri al (106) innerhalb der Zelle (100) veranlaßt, um einen optischen Verzögerungsstoß bei der Wiederausf1uchtung zu vermeiden und dadurch die optischeAnsprechzeit der Zelle zu verkürzen.
- 12.Veränderliche optische Flüssigkristallverzögerungsvorrichtung mit relativ kurzer Erholungszeit,dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie aus einer Fl Ussigkristallzel Te (100) aus FlUssigkristallmaterial (106) mit Leitern (116,118,120), das zwischen einem Paar sich gegenüberliegender, im Abstand gehaltener, optisch transparenter Elektrodenanordnungen (102,104) eine leitende Schicht (110,110') aufgebracht ist und ihre Innenfläche (112,112') so konditioniert ist, daß die Leiter (116,118) des Flüssigkristallmaterials, die sich damit in Berührung befinden, im wesent- liehen gleichförmig ausgerichtet werden, um Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) mit den konditionieren Fläc.hen (112,112') zu bilden, wobei die Neigungsvorspannungswinkel der Leiter (116), die sich in Berührung mit den konditionierten Flächen (112) einer Elektrodenanordnung(102) befinden, in einem Drehsinn begrenzt sind, der den Neigungsvorspannungswinkeln der Leiter (118), die sich in Berührung mit den konditionieren Flächen (112* ) der anderen Elektrodenanordnung (104) befinden, entgegengesetzt i st; undmit Feldvorrichtungen zum Anlegen eines elektrischen Feldes an die Zelle (100), um eine beträchtliche Anzahl der f1ächennichtberührenden Leiter (120) zum Ausfluchten in einer im wesentlichen End-zu-End-Beziehung in einer Richtung, die senkrecht zu den konditionierten Flächen (112,112') verläuft, zu veranlassen, um eine wesentlich verringerte optische Verzögerung durch die Zelle (100) von auf eine der Flächen der Elektrodenanordnung (102) einfallendem Licht (126) vorzusehen, und zum Verändern des elektrischen Feldes, um zumindest einige der flä--ίο- 3A16518chennichtberührenden Leiter (120) im Innern der Zelle zum Zurückweichen aus der End-zu-End-Ausfluchtung zu veranlassen, um in einer relativ kurzen Zeit wesentliche Haibwel1enverzögerung von auf eine der Flächen (108) der Elektrodenanordnung einfallendem Licht (126) vorzusehen.
- 13. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Flüssigkristallzelle gemäß einem oder mehreren der voraufgehenden Ansprüche mit ungleichmäßiger Leiterausrichtung, die als veränderliche Verzögerungsvorrichtung verwendet werden kann, um mit relativ kurzer Erholungszeit die Modulation von durch sie von einer äußeren Quelle übertragenem Licht zu bewi rken,gekennzeichnet durch folgende Stufen:Aufbringen einer elektrisch leitenden Schicht (110,110') auf eine Fläche (102) einer jeden von zwei optisch transparenten dielektrischen Elementen zur Bildung eines Paares transparenter Elektrodenanordnungen (102,104);Konditionieren einer Fläche (1.12) von jeder des Paares von Elektrodenanordnungen (102), so daß die Leiter (116) eines darauf aufgebrachten Flüssigkristallmaterials (106) sich in einer vorbestimmten Richtung ausfluchten;Einstellen einer jeden Elektrodenanordnung (102,104) des Paares, so daß seine konditionierten Flächen (112,112') sich in im Abstand gehaltener und sich gegenüberliegenden Beziehung befinden,Einbringen eines Flüssigkristallmaterials (106) zwischen die Elektrodenanordnungen zur Bildung einer anisotropischen Zelle (100); 35- 11 -Ausrichten der Elektrodenanordnungen, so daß die Leiter (116) des FlUssigkristal!materials (106), die sich in Berührung mit den konditionierten Flächen (112) befinden, sich im wesentlichen gleichmäßig ausrichten, um mit den konditionierten Flächen Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) zu bilden, wobei die Neigungsvorspannungswinkel (Θ) der Leiter (116), die sich in Berührung mit einer konditionierten Fläche (112) befinden, in einem Drehsinn begrenzt sind, der dem Neigungsvorspannungswinkel der Leiter (118), die sich in Berührung mit der anderen konditionierten Fläche (112) befinden, entgegengesetzt ist, undabwechselndes Anlegen eines ersten Signals an die Zelle (100), um ein elektrisches Feld zu erzeugen, das eine beträchtliche Anzahl der f 1 ächennichtberührenden Leiter (120) zum Ausfluchten in einer im wesentlichen End-zu-End-Beziehung in einer Richtung, die senkrecht zu den konditionierten Flächen (112,112') verläuft, veranlaßt, um durch die Zelle (100) auf eine der Flächen (102) der Elektrodenanordnung einfallendem Licht (126)· wesentlich verringerte optische Verzögerung zu erteilen und eines zweiten Signals zum Verändern des elektrischen Feldes, um zumindest einige der f 1 ächennichtberührenden Leiter(120) im Innern der Zelle (100) zum Zurückweichen aus der End-zu-End-Ausfluchtung zu veranlassen, um in einer relativ kurzen Zeit auf eine der Flächen (102) der Elektrodenanordnungen einfallendem Licht (126) wesentliche optische Halbwellenverzögerung zu erteilen.
- 14. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 13,dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es außerdem die Stufe der Einführung von Flüssigkristallmaterial verschiedener Dicke in die Zelle aufweist,- 12 -um Licht verschiedener Wellenlänge wesentliche Halbwellenverzögerung zu erteilen.- 13 -
