Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
It is known that solutions or mixtures of tar oils or tars of vegetable, of animal or mineral origin, made with the intention of doing this with water To make the tar easily miscible when diluting with larger amounts of water, for example in the ratio of 150 parts tar to 250,000 parts water, in almost unchanged form leave again. Also tar emulsions whose preparation naturally requires compliance certain conditions to be made on a case-by-case basis, such as temperature and amount of Emulsifiers, if required, exhibit this phenomenon; they give their tar in little changed Shape again.
It has now been found that solutions, mixtures or emulsions of tars, with the help of sulfonated fats or oils, Turkish red oils, acidic, neutral ones or alkaline sulfose soaps, of course also other water-soluble ones, from these manufactured products show a completely different behavior.
The method according to the present invention is based on the knowledge indicated above: If, according to the present process, mixtures of tars with the aforementioned sulfonated oils and the like are added, from who previously only knew that they were good emulsifiers for various tar constituents are, then the tar no longer falls from them unchanged as before, but essentially changed, and indeed fractionated the end. The new mixtures, solutions or emulsions therefore differ significantly from the previously known. As such, they can be used for technical purposes or serve as starting products for the recovery of the various fractions.

ι kg Birkenholzteer wird mit einer Lösung von 2 kg neutraler Sulfoseife (hergestellt aus sulfoniert em Rizinusöl durch Kochen und Kalilauge) in ι kg Wasser gemischt.ι kg of birch tar is mixed with a solution of 2 kg of neutral sulfo soap (made from sulfonated castor oil by boiling and potassium hydroxide) mixed in ι kg of water.
If the mixture is added to water, it becomes an insoluble brown-black fraction of the tar is excreted and can be recovered by filtration. Will the mix when heated, an insoluble fraction falls as a black-brown powder or as a hard one friable crust that is insoluble in water and many organic solvents is, however, goes into solution in alkalis with a brown color. Addition of free alkalis to the sulphose soap-birch tar mixture cannot prevent the precipitation of an insoluble fraction. Also the solution of 1 kg of birch tar, 1 kg Potassium hydroxide offic, 1 kg sulfose soap and 0.5 kg water separate when diluted with water or an insoluble fraction when heated.
The coniferous tars and their fractions also behave somewhat differently from this are soluble in alkalis, but remain in solution in the presence of sulfose soaps.
A mixture of 1 kg of coal tar, 2 kg of the aforementioned sulfo soap, dissolved in 1 kg Water, results in a uniform emulsion, which is better when diluted with water Heating, separates a water-insoluble fraction of pitch-like nature. additive Free alkalis cannot prevent the precipitation of an insoluble fraction.
Werden an Stelle der fertigen SulfoseifenWill be used in place of the finished sulfose soaps
ίο deren Ausgangsprodukte, z. Die so erhaltenen Emulsionen besitzen fettig-gallertartige oder butterähnliche Beschaffenheit und lassen beim Verdünnen mit Wasser keine Fraktion fallen.ίο their starting products, e.g. B. sulfonated Castor oil is mixed with tar containing pitch, for example coal tar, and these starting products only then saponified with alkalis, emulsions are obtained which Although known per se, from asphalt, coal tar pitch, petroleum pitch and the like Substances or mixtures of the latter manufactured preparations are similar, but whose properties are different from those according to emulsions prepared according to the invention are fundamentally different. The emulsions thus obtained have a greasy-gelatinous or butter-like texture and leave when diluted no fraction fall with water.
The tar solutions and mixtures containing sulfose soap produced by the new process or emulsions and the tar fractions obtainable therefrom are intended for medical and technical purposes are used.
Instead of the pure tar oils or tars, tar mixtures can of course also be used those in which the tar is dissolved as well as those in which it occurs as a solvent, be treated. The observation that sulfose soaps precipitate from mineral tars pitch-like fractions enables their utilization as a clarifying agent for the recovery of pure soluble fractions from wood tars. The insoluble Pitch fraction can be obtained by suitable extraction agents, alkalis or organic solvents be broken down into wood and mineral tar fractions.
