Der an sich bekannte Hordentrockner besteht aus einem Trockenschacht i, in welchem sich die mit dem zu trocknenden Gut angefüllten Horden von oben nach unten oder entgegengesetzt bewegen. Neben dem Schacht 1 befindet sich ein Fahrstuhl 2, welcher die Horden, die aus dem Schacht ausgefahren, entleert und wieder beladen sind, nach oben befördert, woselbst die Horden wieder in den Schacht ι eingefahren werden. Bei der neuen Einrichtung sollen die mit dem warmen, trockenen Gut gefüllten Horden, bevor sie entleert werden, eine kurze Zeit einem kalten Luftstrom und sodann einem feuchten Luftstrom ausgesetzt werden, wodurch das Gut erst gekühlt und sodann befeuchtet wird. Zu diesem Zwecke ist zwischen dem Schacht 1 und dem Fahrstuhl 2 eine Kammer 3 eingeschaltet, in der diese Vorgänge stattfinden. Oberhalb der Kammer 3 ist ein kleiner Ventilator 4 angeordnet, der in die Kammer 3 hineinblasen kann. Der Ventilator 4 saugt mittels einer Rohrleitung 5 die Luft unten aus der Kammer 3 ab, wobei in diese Rohrleitung 5 ein Luftbefeuchtungsapparat (nicht gezeichnet) eingeschaltet ist. Dieser kann z. B. aus einem Wasserbassin bestehen, in welches Dampf hineingeblasen wird, oder es kann auch eine Wasserzerstäubungs- oder Wasserverdünstungseinrichtung vorgesehen sein. Der zum Hordentrockner gehörende Ventilator 6, welcher Luft durch einen Lufterhitzer 7 und von da aus durch den Trockenschacht 1 treibt, hat eine Rohrleitung 8, die es nach Einstellung der zu diesem Zwecke angeordneten Drosselklappen gestattet, daß er Luft aus der Kammer 3 ansaugen kann. Um die Wärme des in den Trockenschacht i eingeblasenen Luftstromes besser auszunutzen, ist auch noch vorgesorgt, daß der Ventilator 6 einen Teil der Abluft aus dem Trockenschacht 1 mittels der Rohrleitung 9 absaugen kann.
