Abstract

The invention relates to a safety device (1) for a motor vehicle with an airbag (10), the motor vehicle having a rear seat bench (2) provided with a backrest (4) with two seats for two rear passengers and the airbag (10) using a gas generator ( 9) is inflatable. The airbag module 7 consists of a gas generator 9 and an airbag 10 folded in the non-activated state, the airbag module 7 being accommodated in a module housing 11 in the backrest 4 . The module housing 11 has an airbag outlet opening 12 which, when the airbag 10 is not activated, is closed by means of an airbag flap (not shown here for reasons of clarity). This airbag flap is preferably pivotably articulated in a conventional manner on the edge region of the airbag outlet opening 12 and, if appropriate, fixed by means of tear-open notches. Instead of an airbag flap, a seat cover seam can also tear open, as is already known from side airbags integrated in the seat.

The functioning of the safety device 1 is explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2:

Claims (8)

1. Safety device for a motor vehicle with an airbag, the motor vehicle having a back seat provided with a backrest with two seats for two rear passengers and at least one airbag being inflatable by means of at least one gas generator which can be activated in the event of a sensed vehicle impact, characterized in that
that an airbag module ( 7 ) consisting of a folded airbag ( 10 ) and a gas generator ( 9 ) is arranged in the backrest ( 4 ) between the two seats, and
that the airbag ( 10 ) as an interaction airbag from the backrest ( 4 ) is preferably inflatable between the two seats and between two rear passengers who may be sitting on the two seats in the event of a side impact.
2. Safety device according to claim 1, characterized in that the airbag module ( 7 ) is arranged approximately at the pool height of a rear passenger.
3. Safety device according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that the airbag module ( 7 ) is covered in the non-activated state by an openable airbag flap.
