The invention relates to a method for the galvanic deposition of a zinc-titanium-zirconium alloy coating using a zinc anode in an alkaline zinc cyanide bath.
The object of the invention consists essentially in the known galvanic galvanizing process to improve so that harder, more adhesive and more corrosion-resistant coatings than before are available. In addition to this improvement in the quality of the coating, the plating time is said to be significant be shortened.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the bath is continuously supplied with sodium pertitanate and sodium perzirconate in saturation concentration, in particular via a dissolving filter, and working with current densities of 6 to 120 A / dm 2 .
With the method according to the invention, coatings are obtained which are extremely uniform (even on workpieces with complex designs), finely crystalline, pore-free and corrosion-resistant. The Vickers hardness exceeds that of conventional zinc coatings (Vickers hardness from 30 to 40) by about HO times. The coatings adhere very well to the galvanized workpiece and are therefore extremely resistant to mechanical post-treatment of the workpiece, such as deep-drawing processing. As a result of the usable high current densities, which are in the order of 8 to 120 A / dm 2 for standing baths and 6 to 8 A / dm 2 for continuous electroplating in drums, the electroplating times can be significantly reduced compared to the known galvanizing processes.
For a better understanding of the invention, two exemplary embodiments are given below.
zwar in Sättigungskonzentration.
Zink-Titan-ZirkoniumlegierungsüberzugesSodium pertitanate and sodium perzirconate are continuously fed into a zinc cyanide electroplating bath with 60 g of zinc cyanide, 45 g of sodium cyanide and 90 g of sodium hydroxide per liter of solution, in saturation concentrations. The supply takes place by continuously passing the liquid through a filter coated with the titanium and zirconium compounds. The coating is electroplated using a metallic zinc plate as the anode, with a cathode current density of 10 A / dm 2 over a period of 4 minutes. A uniform, completely smooth and firmly adhering zinc-titanium-zirconium alloy coating is obtained. The applied layer has a thickness of about 15 μ and contains about 0.3%> titanium and about 0.3% zirconium, such as a method for electrodeposition

durch Spektralanalyse festgestellt wurde. Ferner wurde mit Hilfe eines Mattauchschen Massenspektrographen eindeutig bestätigt, daß das Titan und das Zirkonium in der Überzugsschicht in metallischem Zustand vorliegt.was determined by spectral analysis. Furthermore, with the help of a Mattauch mass spectrograph clearly confirmed that the titanium and zirconium in the coating layer are in metallic Condition is present.
If the process is carried out using an electroplating drum, a current density of 6 A / dm 2 can be used, the electroplating process then being terminated after 10 minutes. The coating layer obtainable is about μ thick; otherwise the result corresponds to that of example 1.
The coating obtained in this way provides protection against corrosion similar to that of conventional zinc coatings far exceeds. This has been confirmed by a large number of tests in which trials have been employed with sprayed salt water, with dew point and sprinkling methods.
