Description
DEUTSCHES
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Verschweißen von Kunststoffen, insbesondere Rohren, bei
denen die zu verschweißenden Flächen direkt erwärmt werden.
Kunststoffe besitzen im allgemeinen eine schlechte Wärmeleitfähigkeit. Eine gleichmäßige Erwärmung
der zu verschweißenden Flächen von außen her ist daher meistens schwer durchzuführen. Es ist erforderlich,
die für die Verschweißung notwendige Wärme an den Schweißflächen selbst zu erzeugen. Es sind
bereits Verfahren bekannt, welche die Erwärmung durch einen elektrisch beheizten Draht oder durch
chemische Zündmassen bewirken, die zwischen die Schweißflächen eingelegt werden. Die Stoffe, welche
die Wärme nach derartigen Verfahren erzeugen, können nach dem Verschweißen nicht wieder aus der
Schweißnaht entfernt werden, wodurch die Verwendung derartig geschweißter Kunststoffteile stark
beeinträchtigt wird. Sie sind z. B. für die Berührung mit chemischen Stoffen, wie Säuren u. dgl., ungeeignet.
Bei diesen Verfahren ist es auch kaum möglich, eine genaue und gleichmäßige Temperatur über die ganze
Schweißfläche einzuhalten. Gerade dies ist jedoch bei vielen Kunststoffen, z. B. bei Polyäthylen, für die
Güte der Schweißung von ausschlaggebender Wichtigkeit.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß alle diese Nachteile durch das nachstehend beschriebene Verfahren vermieden
werden. Bei diesem wird in die Schweißfuge zwischen den zu verschweißenden Kunststoffteilen ein
an den Schweißflächen anliegender Metallkörper, ζ. Β. ein Metallring, Metalldraht, Metallfolie od. dgl., in
bekannter Weise eingelegt. Erfmdungsgemäß besitzt dieser Metallkörper einen Schmelzpunkt, der der
Schweißtemperatur des Kunststoffes entspricht. Der Metallkörper wird, vorzugsweise elektrisch, bis zum
Schmelzen erhitzt. Nach Erreichen der Schmelztemperatur werden die zu verbindenden Teile aneinandergepreßt,
wodurch das geschmolzene Metall aus der Schweißfuge herausgequetscht wird.
Zu jedem Kunststoff läßt sich eine entsprechend schmelzende Metallegierung durch geeignete Wahl
der Legierungsbestandteile zusammenstellen, so daß bei der Temperatur des schmelzenden Metalls der
Kunststoff an den Schweißflächen auf Schweißtemperatur erhitzt, aber nicht geschädigt wird. Dabei ist
der Umstand von besonderem Vorteil, daß beim Schmelzen von Metallen die Temperatur einen Haltepunkt
aufweist, d. h. so lange nicht weitersteigt, bis das gesamte Metall geschmolzen ist. Es wird also eine
lokale, schädliche Temperaturüberhöhung unbedingt vermieden.

Ordnungen zur Ausführung des Verfahrens dar. An ihnen werden die weiteren Merkmale der Erfindung
näher erläutert:
Abb. 1 zeigt die zu verschweißenden Rohrenden 1 und 2 im Schnitt. Zwischen die zu verschweißenden
Flächen ist ein Metallring 3 eingelegt. Dieser Metallring, der aus einer Legierung besteht, die bei der für
denKunststoff günstigstenSchweiß temperatur schmilzt, wird durch die Induktionsspule 4 elektrisch erhitzt
und geschmolzen. Nach Erreichen der Schmelztemperatur werden die Kunststoffteile 1 und 2 gegeneinander
gepreßt. Dadurch wird das geschmolzene Metall herausgedrückt, und die Kunststoffteile 1 und 2, die
inzwischen an den Schweißflächen die Schweißtemperatur angenommen haben,, werden fest miteinander
verbunden. Der Ring 3 kann, wie gezeichnet, einen rechteckigen Querschnitt haben; er kann aber auch
z. B. rund oder linsenförmig geformt sein.
Die Induktionsspule 4 ist je nach den technischen Erfordernissen einteilig oder mehrteilig ausgeführt.
Durch sie wird Wechselstrom niedriger, mittlerer oder höherer Frequenz geleitet, der in bekannter Weise
den Ring 3 induktiv erwärmt und ihn zum Schmelzen bringt. Der Eintritt des Schmelzens läßt sich von
außen erkennen, wenn z. B. in der Induktionsspule 4 ein Fenster angebracht ist. Auch die elektrische

Claims (10)
1. Verfahren zum Schweißen von Kunststoffteilen mit Hilfe eines zwischen die zu verschweißenden
Flächen gelegten und an diesen anliegenden Metallkörpers, gekennzeichnet durch die
Verwendung eines Metallkörpers, der einen der Schweißtemperatur des Kunststoffs entsprechenden
Schmelzpunkt besitzt und unter gleichzeitigem Erhitzen der Schweißflächen auf Schweißtemperatur
geschmolzen wird, worauf die zu verbindenden Teile unter gleichzeitigem Herausquetschen des
geschmolzenen Metalls aneinandergepreßt werden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß dem eingelegten Metallkörper
die erforderliche Wärme elektroinduktiv zugeführt wird.
3. Anordnung zur Ausführung des Verfahrens nach Anspruch 1 und 2, gekennzeichnet durch ein
in der Induktionsspule (4) angeordnetes Fenster, durch das der Eintritt des Schmelzens des
zwischen die zu verschweißenden Flächen gelegten Metallkörpers (3) beobachtet wird.
4. Anordnung zur Ausführung des Verfahrens nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß der Eintritt des Schmelzens durch Beobachtung der Induktivitätsänderung bzw. der Änderung der
Leistungsaufnahme der Heizspule (4) festgestellt wird.
5. Anordnung nach Anspruch 3 und 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die zu verschweißenden
Flächen Schweißlippen erhalten, die den eingelegten Metallkörper (3) bis zum vollständigen
Schmelzen einschließen.
6. Anordnung nach Anspruch 3 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der eingelegte Metallkörper
(3) mit einer Hülle aus Kunststoff umgeben ist, die den gleichen oder einen verschiedenen Erweichungspunkt
wie die zu verschweißenden Teile aufweist.
7. Anordnung nach Anspruch 3 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß beim Schweißen von Rohren
innen und/oder außen Büchsen (5) aus Kunststoff angebracht sind, die den eingelegten Metallkörper
umschließen und diese Büchsen Löcher oder Mulden aufweisen, die das geschmolzene Metall
durchlassen bzw. aufnehmen.
8. Anordnung nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Erweichungspunkt der
Büchse (5) verschieden von dem der zu verbindenden Teile (1 und 2) ist.
9. Anordnung nach Anspruch 7 und 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß im Innern der zu verbinden-
den Teile (1 und 2) in an sich bekannter Weise ein Kern (14) aus magnetischem Material zur Erhöhung
der Induktivität eingelegt ist und daß dieser Kern eine derartige Form hat, daß er das
geschmolzene Metall aufnehmen kann.
10. Anordnung nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Kern (14) aus magnetischem
Material Schneidkanten (15) besitzt, die beim Ausziehen des Kerns Reste von geschmolzenem
Metall aus dem Innern des Rohres entfernen.
