Sollte es beim Betrieb des Heizgerätes zu ungewolltem Austritt von Brenngas und / oder Abgas kommen, so strömten diese Gase in die Unterdruckkammer und würden mit der Verbrennungsluft in den Brenner geführt. Ein Austritt aus der Unterdruckkammer in den Aufstellraum ist somit ausgeschlossen. Die Unterdruckkammer kann ein separates Bauteil innerhalb des Gerätegehäuses darstellen. Es ist jedoch auch möglich, das Gerätegehäuse derart zu gestalten, dass es selbst als Unterdruckkammer fungiert.
