Handelsübliche Pressfittings – wie von den Firmen Mapress Geberit, Raccorderie Metalliche oder Viegener hergestellt – dienen dem Zweck, Rohrleitungen, die einen Betriebsdruck von 16 Bar nicht überschreiten, miteinander zu verbinden. Die Verpressung der sogenannten Pressfittings erfolgt mit Hilfe von elektromechanischen Pressgeräten (u. A. von den Firmen Novopress, Klauke, ... erhältlich). Die Dichtigkeit wird durch einen ringförmigen Elastomer erzielt, der den Hohlraum zwischen Rohr und Fitting verschließt. - 2. Zwei Schneidkanten, die jeweils kurz vor und kurz nach der Sicke angebracht sind. Diese schneiden beim Verpressen in das Rohr ein und sorgen für eine Arretierung.
- 3. Einen auf das entsprechende Rohr angepassten Rohrsitz, der mithilfe einer kleinen Fase zu Beginn des Sitzes das Rohr an die richtige Stelle führt. Der Rohrsitz sorgt außerdem für zusätzliche Stabilität der Verbindung bei hohen Drücken.
- 4. Der Viton-O-Ring, der in verpresstem Zustand für Dichtigkeit sorgt.
