Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
- 1. The impact object penetrates into the bumper and is thrown back in the direction of travel. Such a process usually takes less than 10 milliseconds.
- 2. The impact article will excite vibrations in the bumper fascia which will decay to within 300 milliseconds of initial contact so that the amplitude of the oscillations is below a noise threshold. The first phase is needed to perform impact object discrimination. This means that in this phase it is decided whether it is a pedestrian or another object such as a pole or a garbage can. According to the invention, the second phase is used to generate a third signal as a function of the acceleration signal and the signal of a sensor for absorbing oscillations; this sensor system can also be the acceleration sensor itself. With this third signal, the impact can be further characterized and also the vehicle can thus experience a further characterization. The third signal is therefore the diagnostic signal, ie an already evaluated signal. As a sensor to absorb vibrations is a structure-borne noise sensor, which is usually an acceleration sensor without low-pass filter, or just the acceleration sensor itself, in which case the acceleration signal itself is then used. However, other vibration sensing sensors may be used, such as tuning fork-based sensors.
By those in the dependent Claims listed measures and developments are advantageous improvements in the independent claims specified devices or specified in the independent claims Method for detecting a pedestrian impact possible.
Especially It is advantageous that the third signal is used for the diagnosis of the bumper becomes. In particular, the signal based on the vibrations can for Characterization of the bumper used become. It can in particular, natural vibrations of the bumper are selected, for example before and after the impact. The disappearance or alteration of the respective oscillations or the occurrence of new oscillations the condition of the bumper, being there recourse to evaluation attempts. By an impact can the mechanical properties of a bumper, such as the Stiffness, change. The stiffness has a sensitive influence on the measured acceleration signals for the detection of pedestrian impact. Therefore, such a diagnosis according to the invention is extremely important for the bumper, for a correct tripping behavior to ensure.
As said, the impact object or the impact object in the bumper so-called natural vibrations on, for the bumper characteristic are and in the big and whole are independent of the impact object and impact parameters. Is now the bumper or damaged the sensor attachment, so these vibrations will change too. This change or Shifting of the natural frequencies can in turn be done by means of a frequency analysis the signal of the sensor for detecting vibrations detected become. Can characteristic oscillations, for example, immediately after impact be detected more, so the bumper must have been damaged, for example a control of a warning lamp or another display for May have consequences. The frequency analysis can also be more complicated by, for example, different frequency bandpasses with each other be compared. But also characteristic mathematical operations for one Integration or differentiation etc. of the second signal can be used for Diagnosis are used. Thus one has immediately after the Impact not just a trigger decision, but also by a diagnostic method an assessment of the bumper.
The invention are illustrated in the drawings and in the following description explained.

The Acceleration sensors B1 and B4 are behind the bumper or arranged its panel. The acceleration sensors B1 to B4 be over energizes the interface module and modulates its Acceleration signals on this supply current. Here is a unidirectional transmission the acceleration sensors B1 to B4 provided, in which case a Synchronization of the acceleration sensors by a synchronization pulse possible is. Alternatively it is possible that the acceleration sensors, which are also preferably micromechanical were produced bidirectionally with the interface module IF of the control unit SG communicate. Then can for example, pre-processing in the acceleration sensor be made if the acceleration sensor itself has a corresponding evaluation module.
In addition is here an external structure-borne sound sensor KS2 exemplified, which also with the interface module IF is connected. The structure-borne sound sensor KS2 is arranged in the area of the bumper to the To be able to record vibration particularly well.
It is possible, a variety of structure-borne sound sensors to distribute in the vehicle, especially in the bumper area. Instead of a single interface module, it is possible a plurality of interface modules provided. Also, the microcontroller μC can be directly connected to individual Sensors connected, if the microcontroller μC corresponding inputs has, for example, analog inputs. Other sensors can be found in the control unit as well as other components, especially if the control unit SG also serves to control occupant protection. It is but also possible on structure-borne sound sensors to dispense and to evaluate only the signal of the acceleration sensors. Then, after the exam on the basis of the acceleration signal, if there is an impact, in further time course based on the vibrations of the acceleration signal a diagnosis of the bumper be made.
Of the Microcontroller μC is still over a data input / output connected to a memory S. In which Memory S may be a nonvolatile, but also additional volatile Memory act to process data. It can also store data from memory S be retrieved. These data are then in particular for interpretation the signals necessary. The microcontroller μC applies to the acceleration signals the acceleration sensors B1 to B4 to a pedestrian protection algorithm, at the acceleration signals or integrated acceleration signals or dual integrated acceleration signals or other derivatives the acceleration signals with fixed and / or variable thresholds be compared. The thresholds can be different sensors Influence, as well as the signal of the structure-borne sound sensors KS1 and KS2.
Based on the acceleration signals, the microcontroller μC determines whether or not a pedestrian impact has occurred. Based on the signals of the structure-borne sound sensors KS1 and KS2, the microcontroller μC characterizes conditions of the impact such as an impact direction, an impact severity and other parameters, and performs a characterization of the bumper, namely a diagnosis, based on the vibrations after the detection of the impact. The diagnosis determines whether the mechanical properties of the bumper have changed due to the impact. If the changes are such that a malfunction of the acceleration sensor due to the damaged bumper is to be expected in the event of future impact, then the Mikrocontrol controls As a result, for example, a warning lamp W or a display D on which the defect can be displayed. Via an output, the microcontroller .mu.C is connected to an ignition circuit FLIC. The task of the ignition circuit FLIC is to supply an activation energy to the pedestrian protection device FSM. These pedestrian protection devices may be, for example, a liftable front hood, external airbags or other means of protection for the pedestrian. As already stated, the control unit SG can be connected to an airbag control unit as a unit, or it can be a special control unit SG, which is arranged separately from the airbag control unit. It is possible that the controller will also use other functions such as comfort features. The control unit SG can also be connected to a control unit for vehicle dynamics control or for a brake assist in order to make the information obtained from the sensor signals available to these control units in order to improve their performance.
