Abstract

Na2CO3.XH2O where x is 7.5-10.5 or its mixt. with aq. Na2CO3 soln. is (i) thermally decomposed or subjected to microwave radiation at 32-35.3 deg . C or dried at upto 32 deg. C to lower the value of x to below 7.5. (ii) hydrate obtd. from (i) is then dried at upto 35.3 deg. C to lower the value of x to less than 4 and (iii) further dried at upto 450 deg. C to produce soda (Na2CO3) with an H2O content (x) of equal to or below 1.05 Starting material in (i) is obtd. conventionally from NaHCO3, sodium sesquicarbonate, Wegscheiders salt etc. - Soda prod. (I) is used to remove SO2 and nitrogen oxides from gas mixts. and is highly porous and reactive. (I) has a desulphurising efficiency of above 95%. (I) can also be used as an additive forsolid detergents and is easily transported with low dust content. Energy and time demands are lower than in prior art prepn.(0/0)
