Abstract

PURPOSE: To keep high NOx-absorbing performance of ferrous chelate complex soln. in wet denitration using the soln. as an absorbing soln., by reducing the ferric chelate complex formed in the absorbing soln. with metal sulfide.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas is washed with an aq. soln. of ferrous chelate complex, e.g., an aq. soln., made by addn. of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid to an aq. soln. of ferrous sulfate so as to coordinate, in order to absorb and remove NOx contained in the exhaust gas. In that case, a portion or whole of the absorbing soln. is drawn off and is treated by addn. of alkali (-earth) metal sulfide or ammonium sulfide in order to reduce the ferric chelate complex formed by the absorption to ferrous chelate complex, and after removal of sulfur formed in the absorption, it is circulated and used as the absorbing soln. once again. Addn. of the sulfide is controlled so as to maintain the reacting soln. at a pH of 12 or under, pref., not higher than 10. The reduction is performed at ordinary temp. W100°C, pref., at 40W80°C.
