Abstract

The solution concerns cavernation treatment of cornstarch, whose principle consists in the fact that 35 to 45 percent starch suspension, after having been homogenized, undergoes an extraction by 75 to 96 percent ethyl alcohol at least once at boiling temperature of ethyl alcohol for up to 10 minutes. The acquired cavernated starch is after removal of extraction agent is further macerated by 75 to 96 percent ethyl alcohol at the temperature of 20 to 45 degrees C for 60 minutes. The corn starch treated in this manner can be used as carrier in production of pharmaceuticals, food colouring agents and aromatizing and flavouring agents.

Description

Vynález sa týká sposobu úpravy kukuřičného Škrobu. The invention relates to a method for treating corn starch.

Nedostatkom doteraz vyráběného kukuřičného škrobu je jeho nažltlá farba, prirodzený pach, prítomnosť neškrobových komponeatov, předurčených fyzikálnymi a chemickými podmienkami výroby a sprievodné látky, přípustné československou štátnou normou OH 56 6102 z 31. 3. 1965.The shortcomings of the maize starch produced hitherto are its yellowish color, natural odor, the presence of non-starch components, predetermined by the physical and chemical conditions of production, and the accompanying substances permitted by the Czechoslovak state standard OH 56 6102 of 31 March 1965.

This drawback removes the process for treating corn starch according to the invention, which consists in subjecting the 35 to 45% starch suspension to be extracted after prior homogenization. 75 to 96% ethyl alcohol at least once at the boiling point of ethanol for 90 minutes, the obtained starch is further macerated with 75 to 96% alcohol at 20 to 45 ° C for 60 minutes after removal of the extractant.

The corn starch treated according to the invention is cavernated, bleached, defatted, deodorized and purified. The cavemate is an oval or polyhedral 2 to 35 micrometer sized starch with cavities or 2 to 5 shoulder cracks, appearing in a polarized light with a black cross. Cavernated corn starch, amyllum cavernatum purissimum, according to the invention, is not soluble in cold water and 96% of ethyl alcohol, in a 5% aqueous suspension it forms a pH of 4.5 to 6.0, contains no more than 0.09% of sulphated ash in the dry matter, 0.065 up to 0.080% of the total nitrogen in the dry matter, the amount of retrograde water after 3 days of standing does not exceed 10 cm @ 3 and reaches 95% whiteness *.

The treated corn starch of the present invention can be used as a carrier in the manufacture of medicaments, since it complies with the requirements of CSL-4, hereinafter as a carrier for food colorings and flavorings.

For caverning and physicochemical purification, a 35% suspension of 96% ethyl alcohol is formed from 10 kg of corn starch, which, after homogenization and dehydration of the starch beads, is heated to boiling and extracted for 5 minutes. After removal of the extractant, the cavern-starch is macerated with 80% ethyl alcohol for 120 minutes at 30 ° C. 92.5% of the cavernate was recovered, which was at a temperature of 85 ° C. dried to 93.5% dry matter. The filtered 85% ethanol is recovered by distillation.

From 10 kg of corn starch, a 35% suspension with 96% ethyl alcohol is formed which, after homogenization and dehydration of the starch grains, is heated to boiling and extracted for 5 minutes. After removal of the extractant, the cavernated starch is macerated with 80% ethyl alcohol for 120 minutes at 30 ° C. 92.4% of the cavernate was recovered and dried to 85.5% solids at 85 ° C.
