Abstract
Se proporciona un método para determinar la concentración de un elemento en un material, tal como elementos pesados como mercurio, plomo, uranio, plutonio, wolframio u oro en un material de matriz ligera como c 5 arbón o petróleo refinados, que puede realizarse como una medición en línea y que hace posible determinar con precisión incluso concentraciones muy bajas, especialmente por debajo de 0,1 %. De acuerdo con la invención, la absorción característica se mide usando una técnica tal como espectroscopía de absorción de rayos X (por ejemplo, XAS, XANES, EXAFS). 10 Esta medición aprovecha el hecho de que la absorción de un elemento se eleva significativamente cuando la energía del haz de irradiación sobrepasa un borde de absorción característica del elemento. Por lo tanto, de acuerdo con la invención, se determina la diferencia entre la intensidad del haz de rayos X transmitido en un intervalo de energía por encima del borde de absorción y en un intervalo de energía por 15 debajo del borde de absorción.
