Abstract
本发明涉及一种显示装置,该显示装置包括:发光元件,用于提供光;开关,导通和截止供给至发光元件的电源;比较单元,将预定的第一基准电压与输出电压进行比较,所述输出电压与供给至所述发光元件的电流成比例;控制器,将输出的比较电压与预定的第二基准电压进行比较,以控制开关的导通和截止,其中,输出的比较电压是作为比较单元的比较结果而输出的。因此,本发明提供了一种能精确地控制施加到发光元件的电流的大小的显示装置和控制方法。

技术领域
本发明涉及一种显示装置及其控制方法。更具体地讲,本发明涉及一种能够精确地控制施加到预定发光元件的电流的量的显示装置及其控制方法。
背景技术
通常,显示装置包括阴极射线管(CRT)和平板显示器(FPD)。平板显示器经常采用液晶显示(LCD)面板或等离子体显示面板(PDP)来显示图像。然而,现在正在开发新型显示装置,例如有机发光二极管(OLED)和数字光处理(DLP)。
显示装置(例如LCD或DLP)采用发光元件如发光二极管(LED)作为背光单元的光源。LED是点光源,提供高亮度和优良的色彩实现。
如图4所示,传统显示装置通过脉宽调制(PWM)发生器来控制施加到LED的电流。PWM发生器将与输入到LED的电流的大小成比例的电压Vout与预定的基准电压Vr2进行比较,来控制电流供应。
施加到PWM发生器的电压在被直接施加到比较器310之前经过预定的处理,该比较器310设置在PWM发生器中。即,施加到PWM发生器中的比较器310的电压接收了预定的增益或偏移。如果不精确地执行上述处理,则施加到PWM发生器中的比较器310的电压大小不同,从而导致在输出电流中产生误差。
因此,需要一种能够控制施加到发光元件的电流的量的改进的显示装置及其控制方法。

本发明示例性实施例的前述和/或其他方面还通过提供一种显示装置来实现,所述显示装置包括:发光元件,用于提供光;开关,用于导通和截止供应至发光元件的电源;比较单元,将预定的第一基准电压与输出电压进行比较,所述输出电压与供给至所述发光元件的电流成比例;控制器,将从比较单元的比较结果输出的比较电压与预定的第二基准电压进行比较,以控制开关的导通和截止。
根据本发明示例性实施例的一方面,控制器包括用于产生控制开关的P脉宽调制(PWM)信号的PWM发生器。

如图1所示,根据本发明实施例的显示装置包括:发光元件50;比较单元20;开关40,用于导通或截止供应到发光元件50的电源;控制器30,用于控制开关40的导通和截止。
发光元件50优选地包括发光二极管(LED)。LED可包括发红光的RLED、发绿光的GLED和发蓝光的BLED。
电源10将电源供应到各个发光元件50的电极。根据从电源10施加的电源的电流的量来调节发光元件50的亮度。因此,发光元件50提供光以在显示装置上显示图像。
比较单元20将预定的第一基准电压Vr1与输出电压Vout进行比较,其中,输出电压Vout与供应到发光元件50的电流成比例。因此,检测所述电流的大小以调节发光元件50的亮度。在这种情况下,按照公式V=IR,电流与电压成比例。因此,为了检测供应到发光元件50的电流,可检测供应到电阻器R1的电压。比较单元20将供应到电阻器R1的输出电压Vout与预定的第一基准电压Vr1进行比较。比较单元20优选地被设置为比较器,但是并不限于此。可选择地,只要功能与比较器相同,可设置各种比较单元20。
控制器30基于从比较单元20输出的比较结果,控制开关40的导通和截止。这里,控制器30可包括产生控制开关40的脉宽调制(PWM)信号的PWM发生器。
如果控制器30包括PWM发生器,则控制器30将从比较单元20输出的比较电压V2与预定的第二基准电压Vr2进行比较,于是产生PWM信号。
这时,通过改变第一基准电压Vr1来调整供应到发光元件50的电流。第二基准电压Vr2优选地设置成低于比较单元20的输出电压的预定电压。如果需要,可改变第二基准电压Vr2,然而调节第二基本电压Vr2并不影响输出电流。
例如,如果比较器31设置在PWM发生器中,则比较器31的负(-)端接收第二基准电压Vr2通过增益或偏移处理过的电压值。比较器31的正(+)端接收从比较单元20输出的比较电压V2通过增益或偏移处理过的电压值。如果比较电压V2的处理的值大于第二基准电压Vr2的处理的值,则PWM发生器输出“1”作为PWM信号。如果比较电压V2的处理的值小于第二基准电压Vr2的处理的值,则PWM发生器输出“0”作为PWM信号。
开关40导通和截止从电源10供应的电源。这里,开关10优选地被设置为金属氧化物半导体场效应晶体管(MOSFET),但是并不限于此。可选择地,只要开关40可调节电源,可设置为其他构造。如图1所示,如果开关40导通,从电源10供应的电源可被施加到发光元件50。然而,如果开关40截止,则从电源10供应的电源可被截止然后该电流流入二极管D1。
如果从电源10供应的电流被导通,则施加到发光元件50的电流的量增大。然而,如果从电源10供应的电源被截止,则施加到发光元件50的电流的量减少。
在本发明的前述示例性实施例中,根据施加到电阻器R1的输出电压Vout的量检测施加到LED的电流。可选择地,只要能检测到施加到LED的电流的量,就可以以各种方式来检测施加到LED的电流。
如图2所示,在根据本发明的示例性实施例的显示装置中,当开关40导通时,与施加到发光元件50的电流成比例的输出电压Vout增大;当开关截止时,与施加到发光元件50的电流成比例的输出电压Vout减小。优选地,为了减小输出电压Vout,开关40在输出电压Vout变得大于施加到比较单元20的第一基准电压Vr1处截止。
如果施加到传统PWM发生器中的比较器310的基准电压Vr2发生改变,则随着输出电压Vout的梯度逐渐变化时,开关400截止处的点急剧变化。例如,在传统的显示装置中,如果从外部施加的基准电压是Vr1,且通过PWM发生器识别的基准电压是通过预定处理的Vr2,该预定处理如从增益/偏移控制器330提供增益,则开关400在点t2处截止,且施加到发光元件500的电流在点t2处开始减小。因此,输出峰值大于期望值的电流。
同时,根据本发明的显示装置将未经处理的第一比较电压Vr1与输出电压Vout进行比较,从而产生如图2所示的比较电压V2。
由于比较电压V2的响应时间短,所以即使第二基准电压Vr2被施加到PWM发生器中的比较器31,开关40也在点t1处截止。然后,施加到发光元件50的电流在点t1处减小,在显示装置中电流的量也减小。然而,传统的显示装置在点t2处截止。如上所述,根据本发明示例性实施例的显示装置减小了开关40截止的时刻的误差。
如图3所示,根据本发明示例性实施例的显示装置控制供应到发光元件50的电流的量。
具体地讲,如果在操作S1,电流被施加到发光元件50,则控制器30导通和截止开关40以控制供应到发光元件50的电流的大小。在操作S3,为了确定施加到发光元件50的电流是否大于预定值,比较单元20将输出电压Vout与第一基准电压Vr1进行比较。如果在操作S4,根据比较结果,比较电压V2被施加到控制器30,则在操作S5,控制器30将预定的第二基准电压Vr2与比较电压V2进行比较。如果第二基准电压Vr2大于比较电压V2,则控制器30控制开关40使其保持“导通”状态。如果预定的第二基准电压Vr2小于比较电压V2,则在操作S7,控制器30截止开关40。结果,如果开关40截止,则从电源10供应到发光元件50的电流被截止,从而在操作S9,减少供应到发光元件的电流的量。
在本发明的前述示例性实施例中,在PWM发生器中设置了一个比较器。可选择地,只要各种PWM发生器输出PWM信号,就可设置各种PWM发生器。
上述的开关的电路设置为未屏蔽的降压转换器(buck converter)的电路,但是并不限于此。可选择地,只要各种电路为开关型的,就可设置各种电路的开关。
在根据本发明示例性实施例的显示装置中,如果设置了多个发光元件50,则根据各自的条件和特性,各个发光元件50可包括不同量的电流。例如,如果显示装置的发光元件50中的LED为RLED、GLED和BLED,且各个LED的亮度可调,则传统显示装置不能精确地控制各个LED的亮度。结果,LED的均匀性降低。同时,根据本发明的显示装置能精确地控制各个LED的亮度,从而改善了LED的均匀性。
尽管已经参照本发明的某些示例性实施例示出和描述了本发明,但是本领域的技术人员应该理解,在不脱离由权利要求限定的本发明的精神和范围的情况下,可对本发明作出形式和细节上的各种改变。
Claims (8)
1.一种包括提供光的发光元件的显示装置,包括:
开关,用于导通和截止供给所述发光元件的电源;
比较单元,用于将恒定的预定的第一基准电压与输出电压进行比较,所述输出电压与施加到所述发光元件的电流成比例;
控制器,用于将从所述比较单元的比较结果输出的比较电压与恒定的预定的第二基准电压进行比较,以控制所述开关导通和截止,恒定的预定的第二基准电压高于恒定的预定的第一基准电压。
2.根据权利要求1所述的显示装置,其中,所述控制器包括用于产生控制所述开关的脉宽调制信号的脉宽调制发生器。
3.根据权利要求1所述的显示装置,其中,所述控制器将从所述比较单元的所述比较结果输出的所述比较电压与所述预定的第二基准电压进行比较,如果所述比较电压大于所述预定的第二基准电压,则截止所述开关。
4.根据权利要求1所述的显示装置,其中,通过开关方法给所述发光元件供电,在所述开关方法中,当所述开关导通时,供给到所述发光元件的电流增大;当所述开关截止时,供给到所述发光元件的所述电流减小。
5.一种控制具有提供光的发光元件的显示装置的方法,所述方法包括:
将恒定的预定的第一基准电压与输出电压进行比较,所述输出电压与施加到所述发光元件的电流成比例;
根据比较结果输出比较电压;

7.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中,所述导通和截止的步骤包括:如果所述比较电压大于所述第二基准电压,则截止供给到所述发光元件的电源。
8.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中,所述导通和截止的步骤包括:如果供给电源,则供给至所述发光元件的电流增大;如果截止电源,则供给至所述发光元件的电流减小。
