本发明提供一种可以通过防止像素内具有的驱动晶体管的特性恶化,延长有机电场发光显示装置的寿命,提高图像质量的有机电场发光显示装置。该装置包括:传送数据信号的多个数据线;与所述多个数据线交叉配置,传送栅极信号的多个栅极线;由所述多个数据线和所述多个栅极线形成的多个像素;以及传送外部电源的电源线,所述各像素包括:晶体管,栅极端子与所述数据线连接,漏极端子与所述栅极线连接;以及有机发光部件,按照流过所述晶体管的源极端子的电流量来发光。

Description

有机电场发光显示装置
技术领域
本发明涉及有机电场发光显示装置,更详细地是涉及构成为防止各像素中具有的晶体管的特性恶化和图像品质降低的有机电场发光显示装置。
背景技术
现在,作为取代CRT的显示元件,液晶显示装置被开发出来,其使用率日益增加。由于液晶显示装置不是自身发光的显示装置,所以需要其他途径的光源,因此消耗电力高,在薄型化方面存在限制。而且,由于液晶显示装置通过液晶的反应得到图像信号,所以由于液晶的响应时间而在高速活动图像的显示中存在限制,在视野角中也存在限制。作为取代这样的液晶显示装置的显示元件,开发了有机电场发光(organic electroluminescence)显示装置。现状是,这样的有机电场发光显示装置利用特定的有机物或者高分子物等在施加了的电场时,放出光。
以下,参照图1来说明有机电场发光显示装置。
图1是简略表示有机电场发光显示装置的方框图。
有机电场发光显示装置具有:显示板11、与显示板11连接的栅极驱动器12、数据驱动器13以及控制它们的定时控制器14。所述显示板11包括平行排列的多个栅极线(G1、G2、…、Gm-1、Gm)以及与该栅极线(G1、G2、…、Gm-1、Gm)交叉排列的多个数据线(D1、D2、…、Dn-1、Dn)。这样,由排列为矩阵状的栅极线(G1、G2、…、Gm-1、Gm)和数据线(D1、D2、…、Dn-1、Dn)所包围的区域中形成单位像素。
图2是表示以往的有机电场发光显示装置的各像素的电路图,图3是所述各像素的一帧区间之间的动作波形图。
以往的有机电场发光显示装置的各像素具有开关晶体管T1、电容器C、驱动晶体管T2和有机发光二极管OLED。
开关晶体管T1的漏极端子与数据线(D)连接,栅极端子与栅极线(G)连接。所述开关晶体管T1通过传送到栅极线(G)的栅极信号(gate1)开启和关闭。在开关晶体管T1被开启的情况下,该开关晶体管T1将从数据线(D)传送的数据信号(data1)传送到电容器C和驱动晶体管T2。电容器C被连接到外部电压(Vdd)端子,将数据信号(data1)维持一帧期间。所述驱动晶体管T2的栅极端子被连接到开关晶体管T1的源极端子和电容器C,漏极端子被连接到外部电压(Vdd)。所述驱动晶体管T2通过从所述开关晶体管T1施加的数据信号和对电容器C充电的数据信号,即通过开关晶体管T1和电容器C的共同连接端子P的数据信号(data2)被开启和关闭。通过这样的数据信号(data2)驱动晶体管T2被开启的情况下,该驱动晶体管T2调节流过外部电压(Vdd)端子的电流量并传送到有机发光二极管OLED1。其结果,有机发光二极管OLED1与被传送的电流i1的量成比例而发射光11。这里,所述有机发光二极管OLED1的阳极(anode)被连接到驱动晶体管T2的源极端子,有机发光二极管OLED1的阴极(cathode)被连接到共用阴极端子Vca。
在这样的以往的有机电场发光显示装置中,通过栅极信号(gata1)开启像素时,所述像素中具有的驱动晶体管T2由于第一开关晶体管T1和电容器C的共用连接端子P的数据信号(data2)而在一帧期间始终被开启,对所述有机发光二极管OLED1持续地施加电流i1。由此,驱动晶体管T2的特性恶化,从而驱动晶体管T2的阈值电压(Vth)改变。由于这样的阈值电压(Vth)的变化,驱动晶体管T2的输出电流改变,所以有机发光二极管OLED1发射的光11的均匀性降低,从而图像品质降低,可以使有机发光二极管OLED1的寿命降低,使有机电场发光显示装置的寿命缩短。
而且,在以往的有机电场发光显示装置中,通过数据线(D)连续对各像素施加数据信号(data1),通过所述数据信号各像素的有机发光二极管OLED1连续发光,从而连续显示图像信号。由此,以往的有机电场发光显示装置的使用者识别与以前的图像信号和新的当前的图像信号两个图像信号的中间值对应的图像信号,其结果,显示画面可以看到有些模糊。这样的现状在表现高速活动图像的情况下进一步增加。
为了解决这样的问题,虽然提出了增加晶体管的数量来补偿晶体管的特性恶化的技术,但是由于晶体管数量的增加,开口率减少,产生各像素的结构变得复杂的问题。
发明内容
本发明是为解决如前所述的现有技术的有机电场发光显示装置中存在的问题而提出的,目的是提供一种可以防止像素中具有的驱动晶体管的特性恶化,提高图像质量的有机电场发光显示装置。
为了达到本发明的所述目的,本发明的一个方面提供一种有机电场发光显示装置,包括:传送数据信号的多个数据线;与所述多个数据线交叉配置,传送栅极信号的多个栅极线;以及由所述多个数据线和所述多个栅极线形成的多个像素,其特征在于,所述各像素包括:晶体管,栅极端子与所述数据线连接,漏极端子与所述栅极线连接;以及有机发光部件,按照流过所述晶体管的源极端子的电流量来发光。
在所述结构中,由通过所述数据线施加到所述晶体管的栅极端子的电压电平来决定流过所述晶体管的源极端子的电流量。
在所述结构中,通过所述栅极线对所述晶体管的漏极端子施加第一电压和第二电压,在施加所述第一电压的情况下,所述晶体管的源极端子中不流过电流,在施加所述第二电压的情况下,所述晶体管的源极端子中流过电流。
在所述结构中,所述第一电压具有比所述晶体管的阈值电压低的电压电平。
在所述结构中,所述第二电压具有比被施加到所述晶体管的栅极端子的电压和所述阈值电压的电压电平差高的电压电平。
本发明的发明效果是,按照本发明的所述结构,通过将栅极信号施加到驱动晶体管的漏极端子,将数据信号施加到所述驱动晶体管的栅极端子,可以防止驱动晶体管的特性恶化,其结果,可以延长有机电场发光显示装置的寿命。并且,可以通过防止驱动晶体管的特性恶化以及有机发光二极管的黑图案来使有机电场发光显示装置的图像质量提高。
虽然将本发明与特定的实施方式相关联来图示和说明,但是本发明不限于此,本技术领域的技术人员可以容易理解,在不超出由权利要求设定的本发明的精神和领域的限度内,本发明可以进行多样的改造和变形。

本发明的有机电场发光显示装置的各像素具有驱动晶体管T3和有机发光二极管OLED2。这里,驱动晶体管T3的栅极端子被连接到数据线(D),漏极端子被连接到栅极线(G)而且,驱动晶体管T3的源极端子与有机发光二极管OLED2连接。有机发光二极管OLED2的阳极与所述驱动晶体管T3的源极端子连接,阴极与共用阴极端子Vca连接。
在这样的本发明的有机电场发光显示装置中,在由通过栅极线(G)施加的栅极信号(gate2)对漏极端子施加具有规定的电平的电压的情况下,所述驱动晶体管T3被开启。这样,驱动晶体管T3被开启时,由通过数据线(D)施加的数据信号(data3)对栅极端子施加数据电压,通过该数据电压可以改变流过驱动晶体管T3的源极端子的电流i2的量。其结果,流过源极端子的电流i2被传送到有机发光二极管OLED2,有机发光二极管OLED2与流过驱动晶体管T3的源极端子的电流i2的量成比例来发射光12。
以下,参照图5来说明在本发明的有机电场发光显示装置中具有的各像素的动作。
通过栅极线(G),栅极信号(gate)被施加到驱动晶体管T3的漏极端子,通过数据线(D),数据信号(data3)被施加到驱动晶体管T3的栅极端子。所述栅极信号(gate2)具有第一和第二电压(Vgl,Vgh)电平,数据信号(data3)具有第三电压(Vdl)和第四电压(Vdh)之间的电平。在栅极信号(gate)具有第二电压(Vgh)电平的情况下,所述第二电压(Vgh)通过被施加到驱动晶体管T3的漏极端子而被开启。由此,通过被施加到驱动晶体管T3的栅极端子的数据信号(data3)的电压电平,决定流过所述驱动晶体管T3的源极端子的电流i2的大小。这时,第二电压(Vgh)满足以下的条件,以便驱动晶体管T3在饱和(saturation)状态下动作。

通过数据信号(data3)施加到所述驱动晶体管T3的栅极端子的电压电平可变,在所述的算式中,Vgs的值由数据信号(data3)决定。由此,驱动晶体管T3的源极端子中流过的电流i2的大小由所述数据信号(data3)决定,这样,由数据信号(data3)决定了大小的电流i2被施加到有机发光二极管OLED2。即,有机发光二极管OLED2与可由数据信号(data3)改变大小的电流i2成比例而发射光12。
在栅极信号(gate2)从第二电压(Vgh)电平改变为第一电压(Vgl)电平时,所述驱动晶体管T3被关闭,该驱动晶体管T3的源极端子中不流过电流i2。其结果,由于电流i2不被施加到有机发光二极管OLED2,所以有机发光二极管OLED2不发射光12。
这样,在一帧区间中间,在各像素动作后,在施加下一帧的数据信号(data3)之前,数据信号(data3)具有第三电压(Vdl)电平。这里,第三电压(Vdl)具有比驱动晶体管T3的阈值电压(Vth)低的电平。所述数据信号(data3)在具有第三电压(Vdl)电平的区间,驱动晶体管T3被完全关闭。其结果,有机电场发光显示装置中具有黑图案。

传送数据信号的多个数据线;与所述多个数据线交叉配置,传送栅极信号的多个栅极线;由所述多个数据线和所述多个栅极线形成的多个像素,其特征在于,
所述各像素包括:
晶体管,栅极端子与所述数据线连接,漏极端子与所述栅极线连接;以及
有机发光部件,按照流过所述晶体管的源极端子的电流量来发光。
2、如权利要求1所述的有机电场发光显示装置,其特征在于,
由通过所述数据线施加到所述晶体管的栅极端子的电压电平来决定流过所述晶体管的源极端子的电流量。
3、如权利要求2所述的有机电场发光显示装置,其特征在于,
通过所述栅极线对所述晶体管的漏极端子施加第一电压和第二电压,
在施加所述第一电压的情况下,所述晶体管的源极端子中不流过电流,
在施加所述第二电压的情况下,所述晶体管的源极端子中流过电流。
4、如权利要求3所述的有机电场发光显示装置,其特征在于,
所述第一电压具有比所述晶体管的阈值电压低的电压电平。
5、如权利要求3所述的有机电场发光显示装置,其特征在于,
所述第二电压具有比被施加到所述晶体管的栅极端子的电压和所述阈值电压的电压电平差高的电压电平。
