现在参见图5，示出了用于由微型头端单元12的高级视频服务系统22提供的个人视频记录(“PVR”)服务的例证收费处理110。当客户在步骤112经由STB 44请求记录时，微型头端单元12在步骤114确定客户是否具有当前的PVF服务预订。如果否定，则微型头端单元12在步骤116向客户的帐户收取用于记录节目的预定费用。如果客户具有当前的预订，则客户不被收取另外的记录费用。在客户的请求下，微型头端单元12将从硬盘驱动器32检索所记录的节目，向客户的STB 44传送所检索的节目以在步骤118向客户显示。在所记录的节目的显示期间，STB 44在步骤120将监控来自客户的请求以确定客户是否在请求PVR控制功能(例如回倒、暂停、快进等...)。STB 44向微型头端单元12传送从客户接收的任何PVR控制请求。微型头端单元12然后在步骤122确定客户是否具有当前的PVR服务预订。如果否定，则微型头端单元12在步骤124向客户的帐户收取对于PVR控制请求的预定费用，并且在步骤126执行所请求的功能。如果客户具有当前的PVR服务预订，则客户不因为PVR控制请求而被收费。微型头端单元12保持要由收费系统(未示出)使用来建立客户发票的客户请求的日志(包括特别是客户ID、请求和请求的时间)。如本领域内的技术人员所公知的，可以与系统10相结合地使用许多类型的收费系统。
应当注意，客户可以有偿或在每个节目或每月基础上有偿从受欢迎的节目页面预订节目(见图4)。

Claims (18)

1.一种用于向客户提供节目的方法，所述方法包括步骤：
从客户接收(52)对于付费节目(PPV)的请求；
确定(54)所请求的节目是否已经驻留在本地存储器上；
如果所请求的节目驻留在本地存储器上则从其检索(56)所请求的节目；
向客户发送(58)所检索的节目以显示；
如果所请求的节目未驻留在本地存储器上则从PPV服务提供者下载(60)所请求的节目；和
向客户发送(62，64)所下载的节目以显示，并且向存储器发送(62，64)所下载的节目以存储。
2.按照权利要求1的方法，还包括步骤：
定期访问(72)由PPV服务提供者提供的PPV页面；
确定(74)在PPV页面上列出的节目是否被存储在本地存储器上；
如果所述节目未被存储在所述本地存储器中则下载(76)所述节目；并且
向存储器发送(76)所下载的节目以存储在其上。
3.按照权利要求2的方法，还包括步骤：
在节目指南中更新视频点播(VOD)页面，以便所述页面列出所下载的节目的标题。
4.按照权利要求1的方法，还包括步骤：
在节目指南中更新视频点播(VOD)页面，以便所述页面列出所下载的节目的标题。
5.按照权利要求1的方法，还包括步骤：
更新网络集合简档以反映客户对于被存储或下载的节目的请求。
6.按照权利要求5的方法，还包括步骤：
选择(96)满足预定标准的、在网络集合简档中的节目；和
在节目指南中产生(98)受欢迎的节目页面，所述受欢迎的节目页面列出了所选择的节目。
7.按照权利要求6的方法，其中，所述预定标准是已经请求节目的次数是否超过了预定的门限。
8.按照权利要求1的方法，还包括步骤：
向客户提供用于在本地存储器中存储的节目的个人视频记录(PVR)服务；
对于每个被请求的PVR服务向客户收费(122)。
9.按照权利要求8的方法，其中，所提供的PVR服务是暂停、回倒、快进和随机访问中的至少之一。
10.一种用于向客户提供节目的系统，所述系统包括：
用于从客户接收对于付费节目(PPV)的请求的装置(44)；
用于确定所请求的节目是否已经驻留在本地存储器上的装置(30)；
用于如果所请求的节目驻留在本地存储器上则从其检索所请求的节目的装置(30)；
用于向客户发送所检索的节目以显示的装置(28，30，36)；
用于如果所请求的节目未驻留在本地存储器上则从PPV服务提供者下载所请求的节目的装置(18)；和
用于向客户发送所下载的节目以显示、并且向存储器发送所下载的节目以存储的装置(28，30，36)。
11.按照权利要求10的系统，还包括：
用于定期访问由PPV服务提供者提供的PPV页面的装置(18)；
用于确定在PPV页面上列出的节目是否被存储在本地存储器上的装置(30)；
用于如果所述节目未被存储在所述本地存储器中则下载所述节目的装置(18)；和
用于向存储器发送所下载的节目以存储在其上的装置(28，30)。
12.按照权利要求11的系统，还包括：
用于在节目指南中更新视频点播(VOD)页面以便所述页面列出所下载的节目的标题的装置(30)。
13.按照权利要求10的系统，还包括：
用于在节目指南中更新视频点播(VOD)页面以便所述页面列出所下载的节目的标题的装置(30)。
14.按照权利要求10的系统，还包括：
用于更新网络集合简档以反映客户对于被存储或下载的节目的请求的装置(30)。
15.按照权利要求14的系统，还包括：
用于选择满足预定标准的、在网络集合简档中的节目的装置(30)；
用于在节目指南中产生(98)受欢迎的节目页面的装置(30)，所述受欢迎的节目页面列出了所选择的节目。
16.按照权利要求15的系统，其中，所述预定标准是已经请求节目的次数是否超过了预定的门限。
17.按照权利要求10的系统，还包括：
用于向客户提供用于在本地存储器中存储的节目的个人视频记录(PVR)服务的装置(12)；
