Description
技术领域
本发明涉及具有气孔的多孔光纤以及其制造方法。
背景技术
单模光纤芯通过添加锗或磷到玻璃中而制造。如图1中所示,多孔光纤由透明材料1(例如熔融石英玻璃)制造,并且均匀分布的气孔2沿纵向设置透明材料1上,从而气孔2与光纤的轴线平行安置。
在多孔光纤中,光子转变层使用空气层与石英玻璃层之间的介电常数的差异形成。与半导体中的电子带隙相同的方式,这样的光子转变层对于指定波长或者光传输方向具有光子阻带。即,只有满足光子转变层要求的光通过光子转变层。换言之,多孔光纤中传输的光通过光子带隙效应或者有效折射率效应来实现。这详细公开在T.A.Birks,Electronic Letters,Vol.31(22)p.1941(1995年10月)和J.C.Knight等,OFC,Vol.4p.114(1999年2月)中。
多孔光纤具有多个重要的技术优点。例如,多孔光纤在较宽波长上支持单模,并具有大模区,这使得具有较高光功率的信号可以传输,并在波长1.55μm的通讯波长上具有较高的相分离。此外,多孔光纤增加/减小非线性,这样构成偏振光调整装置。相应地,可以预期具有上述特征的多孔光纤将广泛应用到光通讯领域中。
在传统的制造多孔光纤的坯料的技术中,毛细玻璃管和玻璃杆堆叠并绑为具有预定形状的束状以制造坯料。但是,传统技术需要工人将元件手工组装,这在制造过程中容易产生污染物并需要反复的洗涤步骤。
由于毛细玻璃管和玻璃杆堆叠并以束状绑在一起,六边形状的气孔在坯料中的布置比较简单。但是,在具有多孔结构的多孔光纤从坯料中拉出时,由于设置在坯料的外部区域上的管状部件比设置在坯料的内部区域上的管状部件的熔化速度快,因为坯料的内、外区域之间的热导性存在差异,设置在坯料的外部区域中的气孔与设置在坯料的内部区域中的气孔相比显著地减小或者阻塞。结果,相对尺寸较大的内气孔趋于变形为椭圆形状。在多孔光纤自坯料拉出时所产生的气孔的变形导致连续大量生产多孔光纤中的许多问题。
发明内容
因此,本发明有鉴于上述问题而提出并具有另外的优点,提供了一种制造多孔光纤的方法,以防止多孔光纤的污染并简化了堆叠玻璃管和杆的过程。
根据本发明的一方面,一种多孔光纤包括:具有第一折射率的芯部,所述芯部在纵向中延展;具有第二折射率的外包层,所述外包层围绕芯部;以及具有第三折射率的内包层,所述内包层形成在芯部与外包层之间并设有通过其散布的多个气孔。
优选地,气孔可以不规则散布。
此外,芯部和外包层可以由石英玻璃制造,内包层可以由设有多个气孔的石英玻璃层制造。
更为优选地,第一折射率可以比第二或者第三折射率高。
根据本发明的另一方面,制造多孔光纤的方法包括步骤:(a)制备包括外管、内管和中心杆的管状模具;(b)将容纳无定形硅石粒子的浆倒入外管中并胶凝所述浆以产生外包层;(c)将包括气泡形成材料的浆倒入外包层和中心杆之间的空间以通过后续热处理形成气泡,并模制所述浆以产生内包层;(d)自模具中移除中心杆,将芯部材料倒入到中心杆所移除的区域中,并胶凝所述芯部材料以产生芯部;以及(e)对步骤(a)-(d)中所获得的多孔光纤用坯料进行热处理,并自坯料中拉出多孔光纤。
优选地,多孔光纤的光特征可以通过气泡形成材料的量来调节。

具体实施方式
现在,将结合本发明的附图对本发明进行说明。出于清楚和简洁的目的,公知功能和结构的详细说明将被省略,因为它们将使得本发明的主题变得不清晰。
首先,根据本发明的原理的多孔光纤和制造方法的特征在于,光传播通过内外包层的相同的全反射来实现,而不是通过由于形成在传统光纤中的气孔的规则布置产生的内层的修改的全内反射。
图2a说明了根据本发明的多孔光纤的结构,图2b说明了根据本发明的多孔光纤的折射率的分布。如图2a中所示,本发明的多孔光纤100包括由不具有气孔的石英玻璃制造的外包层101、设有不规则分散布置的气孔的石英玻璃的包层102以及由不具有气孔的石英玻璃制造的芯部103。
包层102设有不规则分布在其中的气孔,这样不具有光子带隙的特征。由于包层102的气孔具有相对较高的体积,包层102的平均折射率低于芯部103的折射率,由此允许光通过芯部103引导(参考图2b)。
图3是根据本发明的制造多孔光纤的模具的示意透视图,包括三个步骤。
在第一步骤中,制备具有预定尺寸的管状模具。尤其是,管状模具包括外管201、内管202、中心杆203。所述杆203设置在内管202的中心区域上。容纳无定形硅石粒子的浆被倒入模具中,然后胶凝,这样产生最外层。此处,真空施加在包含无定形硅石例子的浆上,这样气泡没有产生在浆中。在不具有气泡的浆被倒入到模具中并胶凝,外管201自模具移除。
在第二步骤中,包含气泡形成材料浆通过后续热处理形成气泡,所述浆倒入通过第一步骤所获得最外层和中心杆203之间形成的空间中,然后模制。气泡形成材料是从有机气泡形成介质和各种油(与水不相溶)的组中选择其一,以形成乳状液,添加到硅浆中的气泡形成材料的量是硅浆总量的1~50%。即,油或者聚合体粒子被添加并散布到硅浆中以形成气孔,所添加的油或者聚合体粒子在热处理中燃烧,由此在硅浆中形成气孔。
在第三步骤中,中心杆203自模具中移除,然后硅浆与第一步骤中所使用的硅浆相同倒入模具中并胶凝。在胶凝硅浆完成之后,所获得的凝胶自模具分离,然后干化。所获得的形成为圆柱形状的干化的凝胶被热处理并玻璃化,由此产生具有分散的气孔的多孔光纤。即,为了将多孔光纤自所获得的变干的凝胶状态中的坯料中拉出,坯料被加热到高温,由此从其中产生气泡。气泡的密度可以通过光纤均匀维持。此外,由于多孔光纤由硅粉末制造,所有类型的复合物可以添加到光纤中。尽管传统多孔光纤基于形成在其中的气孔的尺寸、数目和布置而表示不同的光特性,在包层形成之时,本发明的多孔光纤基于添加到浆中的气泡形成材料(油、聚合体等)量而调整不同的光特征。
从上述说明中可见,本发明提供了一种多孔光纤和制造其的方法,其中气孔形成在包层中,由此简化了制造多孔光纤的过程。
此外,根据本发明,可以没有污染地制造较大尺寸的坯料并允许多孔光纤在形成包层时基于添加到浆中的气泡形成材料的量而具有不同的光特性。
尽管本发明进行了详细的说明,但是本领域普通技术人员可以理解在不背离本发明的范围和精神的情况下可以对特定元件进行不同的修改、添加和替换,其范围由所附权利要求书限定。
Claims (13)
1.一种多孔光纤,包括:
具有第一折射率的芯部,所述芯部在纵向中延展;
具有第二折射率的外包层,所述外包层围绕芯部;以及
具有第三折射率的内包层,所述内包层形成在芯部与外包层之间并设有通过其散布的多个气孔。
2.根据权利要求1所述的多孔光纤,其特征在于,气孔不规则散布。
3.根据权利要求2所述的多孔光纤,其特征在于,内包层由设有多个所述气孔的石英玻璃层制造。
4.根据权利要求1所述的多孔光纤,其特征在于,芯部和外包层由石英玻璃制造。
5.根据权利要求1所述的多孔光纤,其特征在于,第一折射率大于第二折射率。
6.根据权利要求1所述的多孔光纤,其特征在于,第一折射率大于第三折射率。
7.一种制造多孔光纤的方法,包括步骤:
(a)制备包括外管、内管和中心杆的管状模具;
(b)将容纳无定形硅石粒子的浆倒入外管中并胶凝所述浆以产生外包层;
(c)将包括气泡形成材料的浆倒入外包层与中心杆之间的空间,以通过后续热处理形成气泡,并模制所述浆以产生内包层;
(d)自模具中移除中心杆,将芯部材料倒入倒中心杆所移除的区域中,并胶凝所述芯部材料以产生芯部;以及
(e)对步骤(a)-(d)中所获得的多孔光纤用坯料进行热处理,并自坯料中拉出多孔光纤。
8.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,步骤(b)还包括将真空施加到容纳无定形硅石粒子的浆上,这样不会在所述浆中产生气泡,并移除外管。
9.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,多孔光纤的光特性通过气泡形成材料来调整。
10.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,添加到步骤(c)中的硅浆中的气泡形成材料的量处于步骤(b)中所产生的硅浆的总量的1~50%之间。
11.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,步骤(c)中的气泡形成材料从有机气泡形成介质和与水不相溶的多种油所构成的组中选择其一,用于形成乳状液。
12.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,步骤(d)中的芯部材料与步骤(b)中制造外包层的浆材料相同。
13.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于,管状模具具有预定形状。
