Abstract

Description

磁头
本发明涉及一种用于在记录媒体内记录磁信号和从记录媒体再生该信号的磁头,而更详细地是,涉及具有用于记录磁信号的改进的上磁极的磁头。
像硬盘驱动装置之类用于在预定的记录媒体内记录磁信号和从预定的记录媒体再生磁信号的装置具有用于进行记录和再生的磁头。如图1所示,磁头10被装在安装在摆臂30一端上的滑板20内,并且通过摆臂30在枢轴上转动,使磁头10移动到所希望的磁道位置以便进行记录或再生。
图2是磁头10的放大透视图。如图2所示,磁头10包括用于再生的磁阻头14和包括用于记录的记录头。磁阻头14从记录媒体检测并读出磁信号。感应记录头包括用于形成漏磁通量的上磁极11和下磁极12以及为电源通路的记录线圈13,以便记录在记录媒体中所希望的存储信息的磁信号。
特别是,感应记录头决定信号输入到记录媒体的质量。因此,如果经由感应记录头输入的信号是不清晰的,那么即使磁阻头具有优良的性能也不能进行令人满意的再生。
在最近的趋势中,为了增加记录媒体的存储量,记录媒体减小输入磁信号的磁道的宽度。在减小磁道宽度时,必须依照磁道减小的宽度同样减小接收磁信号的感应记录头中的上磁极11的宽度W。然而,上磁极11宽度W的减小增强由感应记录头产生的磁场的边缘效应,以致测到像具有在上磁极边缘上集聚的图形那样的磁场的垂直分量,如图3所示。在处于这种状态的记录媒体上记录磁信号时,代表记录数据的记录媒体上磁化区域的形状倾向于如图4所示的马蹄形。这种马蹄形形状意味着在磁道上记录的磁信号含糊不清。因而,通过把磁化的海鸥形形状矫正到矩形形状而达到磁信号干净的输入。所以,即使在减小磁道宽度时也要求磁头能够使磁化形状保持成矩形。
为了解决上述的问题,本发明的目的是提供一种即使在减小记录媒体中的磁道宽度时也使在记录媒体上代表记录数据的磁化区域的形状保持矩形的改进型磁头。
为了达到上述的目的,本发明提供一种包括用于产生漏磁通以使记录媒体磁化成具有预定形状的上磁极和下磁极,其中上磁极具有相对于记录媒体的侧面的中心部分比该侧面的边缘厚的结构。

最佳实施例的描述
参阅图5A和5B,根据本发明一个实施例的磁头100包括用于再生的磁阻头140和用于记录的感应记录头。感应记录头包括用于形成漏磁通量的上磁极110和下磁极120以及为电源通路的记录线圈130。
在这样的实施例中,在相对于记录媒体的侧面上的上磁极110的横截面是五边形的,因此中心部分110a的厚度t1大于边缘部分110b的厚度t2。就是说,如果使中心部分凸出而比边缘更厚,那么在凸出的中心部分上出现与在两边缘110b上的边缘效应类似的边缘效应。所以,如图6所示,使磁场中的垂直场的分布取成在上磁极的中心部分上和在其边缘上垂直场几乎相同散布的矩形形状。
因此,如果上磁极110的中心部分110a凸得比边缘部分110b高,那么即使相对于记录媒体中的磁道宽度缩小上磁极110的宽度W,也能使磁场分布的形状保持矩形。因而,在保持如图7所示的干净的磁化形状时同样能够记录信号,因此能够放心地增大记录媒体中的磁道密度。
根据本发明的磁头能够变换成如图8一直到10所示的多种实施例。
就是说,在上磁极210具有图8中的倒T字形的横截面、上磁极310具有图9中的凸圆形的横截面和上磁极410具有图10中的隆起的横截面的所有情况中,中心部分210a、310a、和410a凸得分别高于边缘210b、310b和410b而分别比边缘210b、310b和410b厚。
在这些凸出的中心部分210a、310a和410a的情况中,为了分散边缘效应,使磁场的形状保持矩形,如图6所示。
因此,虽然上磁极具有任一种形状,但是如果上磁极中心部分通过使其厚度增大到大于边缘厚度而凸出,那么磁场分布能够继续具有矩形形状。毫无疑问,通过试验能够得出中心部分和边缘之间最适合使磁场分布成矩形形状的厚度差。按照上磁极的形状通过重复制作上磁极和测量磁场分布能够调定最佳厚度差。
在根据本发明的磁头中,如上所述,上磁极具有中心部分凸得比边缘高的形状。因而,即使减小上磁极宽度也能够使磁场分布的形状保持矩形,这就能够增大记录媒体中的磁道密度。

Claims (5)

1.一种磁头,包括用于产生以使记录媒体磁化而具有预定图案的漏磁通的上磁极和下磁极,其中上磁极具有相对于记录媒体的侧面的中心部分厚于该侧面的边缘的结构。
2.根据权利要求1所述的磁头,其中上磁极具有五边形的横截面。
3.根据权利要求1所述的磁头,其中上磁极具有倒T字形的横截面。
4.根据权利要求1所述的磁头,其中上磁极具有凸圆形的横截面。
5.根据权利要求1所述的磁头,其中上磁极具有隆起的横截面。
