Abstract

该申请申明了1998年9月24日提交的美国临时申请第60/101,678号的优点。该申请还是1997年11月17日提交的第08/971,501号申请和1998年3月25日提交的09/048,143申请的后续部分,此处引用后两个申请。
本发明的背景技术
本发明所属技术领域
本发明涉及显示电子设备的状态与/或行为的指示器,该电子设备例如提供电话线与/或LAN连接的通信PC卡;
现有技术描述
PC卡是插入到主电子系统槽中的设备。根据主系统槽的种类不同,这些卡遵循各种不同的物理和电子规格。公开于1998年6月30日的美国专利5,773,332说明了一种遵循III类PCMCIAPC卡规格的通信卡。详见’332专利的图21和从第15栏第53行到第16栏第11行的内容。’332专利的通信卡由加州千橡(ThousandOaks)的(美国)捷迅公司销售,商标为“RealPort”。
用做通信连接的PCMCIA卡通常包含内室、内室中的底座或印刷电路板、内室前面板的68针连接器,它用来连接该卡到主系统,以及位于内室后面板的至少一个插口,用来连接该卡到信息传输系统例如电话线或LAN。如图1中的10所示为现有技术的这种卡的代表。根据现有技术,装配到底座或PCB上的是一组有不同颜色的状态或行为LED(例如4个)。每个LED有一个对应的光管道,并从接近LED的光管道的一头延伸到光管道外部的另一头12,它位于接近后面板的卡上部外表面的纵向槽14中。LED指示卡10的状态与/或行为,并且当被照亮时,来自这些LED的光经过相关的光管道能被用户看到。光管道指示器12可以用于显示以太网连接和数据流,以及调制解调器载波信号和通过由电子连接器插头16和位于卡10后面板的插口18提供的电子连接器进行的数据传送/接受活动。
发明简述
本发明的目标是改善PC卡上使用的状态与/或行为指示灯的安排方式。光源,优先选用LED,被装配到PC卡的印刷电路板并连接到适当的电子电路元件,从而被激活并发光来响应电子信号以指示卡的状态/活动。在LED和插口之间的光管道提供光耦合,该插口至少有一个,用来接收标准RJ-xx类型的通信插头,例如RJ-11或RJ-45插头。RJ-xx插头最好包括丙烯酸成分的透明或半透明实体用来从光管道的插口端传送或传导光从而被照亮。LED经过光管道照亮RJ-xx插头的实体,从而提供了状态与/或行为信息。可以提供具有不同颜色的多个LED及其对应数量的光管道。
依照本发明的连接系统在电子设备和外部系统之间提供电子连接并以可见的方式指示状态与/或行为的设备包括:(1)可插拔的电子连接器插头,在其透明实体中有一个或多个电子触片块,(2)电子设备驱动的光源,光源发光来指示电子设备的状态,(3)有第一和第二端的光管道,把光从第一端传送到第二端,光管道的第一端与光源接近以便实现光耦合,(4)电子插口,当连接器插头插入该插口时,它可以从电子设备提供一个或多个电子信号到可插拔的电子连接器插头,光管道的第二端耦合到该电子插口,当连接器插头插入该插口后它从光管道提供照明到电子连接器的透明实体。
根据本发明的另一个实施例,可以不要光管道,直接把一个或多个光源直接装配到与每个插口对应的触片块的开口上。
在本发明的另一个实施例中,连接器和插口遵循RJ-11或RJ-45连接器的规格。在本发明的另一个实施例中,一组光源和光管道被用于提供对驱动该光源的电子设备的多种状态或行为的指示。另外,光源优先选用LED形式。
本发明的新颖性特征结合所附权利要求描述。在下面的描述中,结合附图可以更好的理解本发明。
附图简要描述
图1是现有技术的PCMAIA卡的透视图,有可见的指示器装配在PCMCIA卡的实体上。
图2是对应本发明一个实施例的PCMCIA卡的透视图,它把来自状态/行为指示器的光直接传导到插口中,当被插入插口时可以从RJ-xx插头的透明实体查看指示器的状态。
图3是III类PCMCIA通信卡后面板的剖面图,用来显示本发明的一个示范实施例。
图4是一对RJ-xx触片块的透视图,装配在印刷电路板的后边缘,其中集成了本发明的光源。
图5是图4的触片块的前视图,它显示了把两个可选,示范光源耦合到插口的情况。
发明详述
本发明的目标是改善电子设备,如插到主系统102的PCMCIA类型III PC卡100(参见图2),上使用的状态与/或行为指示灯的安排方式。光源,优先选用LED,被装配到PC卡内室的印刷电路板上并连接到适当的电子电路元件,从而被激活并发光来响应电子信号,指示该卡的状态/活动。在优选实施例中,光通道,例如光管道,在LED和插口之间提供光耦合,该插口至少有一个,用来接收标准RJ-xx类型的通信插头,例如RJ-11或RJ-45插头。如图2所示例举了三个插口104,106和108。插口104被配置成接收RJ-11插头110,以连接卡100到电话线;插口106可以是RJ-11插口,提供电话手持机转接;插口108可以被配置成接收RJ-45插头,以连接卡100到以太网LAN。众所周知,RJ-xx插头通常包括丙烯酸成分的透明或半透明实体112,在本发明中它用来从光管道的插口端传送或传导光从而照亮实体112,供用户观察。LED经过光管道照亮RJ-xx插头110的实体112,从而提供了状态与/或行为信息。可以提供具有不同颜色的多个LED及其对应数量的光管道。
图3是图2中III类PCMCIA通信卡的后面板的纵向剖面图,详细显示了本发明的具体示范实施例信息。图中连接器插头110插入到插口104中。RJ-xx插头实体112的后部114从通信卡内室118的后表面116凸出。卡100包含印刷电路板120,其上装配了触片块122用来承载一组可导电的线路触点124,把印刷电路板120上的电路和RJ-xx插头110上的一组电子终端125连接起来。装配在印刷电路板120包括至少一个光源126,优先选用LED,它电耦合到印刷电路板120的电路上,以便被加压激活,并发光来响应电子信号,指示印刷电路板120上电路的状态/活动。触片块122承载的光管道128具有临近LED 126的前端130和伸展到RJ-xx插头插口104的后端132。光管道128可以由任何透明或半透明光导体材料例如“Lexan”制成,“Lexan”是通用电气公司的透明聚碳酸酯的商标。光管道128从LED126传送到插口104的光附带照亮了RJ-xx插头实体112。对插头实体112的照亮情况可以被卡用户观察到,这样就向用户展示了卡100的状态与/或行为。
图4和5显示了装配在印刷电路板120后边缘138上的RJ-11触片块134以及RJ-45触片块136。每个触片块134和136按照图3描述的方式对应一个插口。触片块134和136的部分,优先选用位于它们的周边且没有被导线140,142阻碍,通过孔144接受光管道的第二端。图5是触片块134和136的后视图,举例显示了光管道146如何被用于从装配LED148的印刷电路板传送光到与触片块134对应的插口。每个光管道146包含位置接近某一个LED148的第一端150和从触片块143上的孔144突出到对应的连接器插头插口的第二端152。作为可选方法,可以在光管道146的第一端150和LED148周围环绕遮袖(未表示)来增强LED148和光管道146之间的光耦合。因此,当印刷电路板120上的电路检测到某个特定状态/行为信息,例如以太网链接和数据流或调制解调器载波和数据收/发行为时,与该状态相关的LED148被驱动,从而通过光管道146提供可见光到连接器插头110的透明实体112。
优先选用,使用多个照明源148在每个连接器插头提供状态/行为指示。另外,使用不同颜色的照明源来指示不同的状态/行为信息。该任务可以由发不同颜色光的离散LED设备完成。另外,众所周知通过不同的极性驱动单独的LED设备可以产生不同的颜色并因而指示不同的状态。另外,除了采用不同的颜色之外,LED可以采用稳态或脉冲模式来提供不同的状态指示。
如图5所示的两个触片块134和136,只有触片块134上有光管道。另外,很显然,这两个触片块134和136都可以装配一个或多个光管道来照亮插入相应插口的RJ-xx类型的插头。
图5描述的本发明的另一个实施例,其中消除了对光管道的需求。因此,在图5的触片块136上至少应有一个LED154,最好有两个,每个LED154装配在已成型在触片块136上的贯穿孔156上。每个LED154包括引线158耦合到电路板120。因此,操纵每个LED154直接照亮插入到对应插口的RJ类型连接器插头来对PCB电路产生的信号状态/行为做出响应。
尽管本发明的细节是参照目前的优选实施例描述的,但是业界技术人员将意识到在不偏离本发明的情况下可以有许多修改。例如,尽管用在PCMCIA卡上的本发明使用的是LED光源,但是使用其它类型的光源也应该考虑为在本发明范围内。因此,本发明只受限于下面的权利要求的范围。
Claims (28)
1.在可分离的透明电子连接器插头中指示电子设备状态的可视化指示器,所述的指示器包括:
光源,由所述的电子设备驱动,所述的光源发光来指示所述的电子设备的状态;
光管道,有第一和第二端,把光从第一端传导到第二端,所述的光管道的第一端以光方式耦合到所述的光源;
电子插口,接收所述的连接器插头并当连接器插头插入所述的插口时,从所述的电子设备提供一个或多个电子信号到连接器插头;并且其中
所述的光管道的第二端耦合到所述的电子插口,当连接器插头插入所述的插口时,从所述的光管道提供光到所述的透明电子连接器插头。
2.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器包括二个或多个所述的光源和所述的光管道来提供一组状态指示器。
3.根据权利要求2所述的可视化指示器,其中至少一个所述的光源发出不同颜色的光来指示所述的电子设备的不同状态。
4.根据权利要求2所述的可视化指示器,其中至少一个所述的光源发出来自另一个所述的光源的不同颜色的光。
5.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的光源是LED。
6.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的光管道由Lexan组成。
7.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的插口被配置成接受RJ-45连接器插头。
8.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的插口被配置成接受RJ-11连接器插头。
9.根据权利要求1所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的电子设备是PCMCIA类型卡。
10.提供电子连接器到电子设备以及可视化指示该设备的状态或行为的系统,所述的系统包括:
可分离的电子连接器插头,在透明体中有一个或多个电子触片块;
光源,由所述的电子设备驱动,所述的光源发光来指示所述的电子设备的状态;
光管道,有第一和第二端,所述的光管道把光从第一端传导到第二端,所述的光管道的第一端以光方式耦合到所述的光源;
电子插口,当所述的连接器插头插入所述的插口时,该插口在所述的电子设备和可分离电子连接器插头之间提供一个或多个电子信号;并且其中
所述的光管道的第二端耦合到所述的电子插口,当连接器插头插入所述的插口时,从所述的光管道提供光到所述的电子连接器插头的透明体。
11.根据权利要求10所述的系统,包括两个或更多所述的光源和所述的光管道来提供一组状态指示器。
12.根据权利要求11所述的系统,其中至少一个所述的光源发出不同颜色的光来指示所述的电子设备的不同状态。
13.根据权利要求11所述的系统,其中至少一个所述的光源发出来自另一个所述的光源的不同颜色的光。
14.根据权利要求10所述的系统,其中所述的光源是LED。
15.根据权利要求10所述的系统,其中所述的光管道由Lexan组成。
16.根据权利要求10所述的系统,其中所述的插口被配置成接受RJ-45连接器插头。
17.根据权利要求10所述的系统,其中所述的插口被配置成接受RJ-11连接器插头。
18.根据权利要求10所述的系统,其中所述的电子设备是PCMCIA类型卡。
19.在可分离的透明电子连接器插头中指示电子设备状态的可视化指示器,所述的指示器包括:
电子插口,当连接器插头插入该插口时,所述的插口在所述的电子设备和所述的可分离电子连接器插头之间耦合电信号;
光源,由所述的电子设备驱动,所述的光源发光指示所述的电子设备的状态,所述的光源适合于照亮至少部分所述的电子插口;并且其中
当所述的插头插入所述的插口时,所述的光就被提供到所述的透明电子连接器插头。
20.根据权利要求19所述的可视化指示器,附带包括:
光管道,有第一和第二端,所述的光管道把光从第一端传导到第二端,所述的光管道的第一端接近所述的光源;并且其中
所述的光管道的第二端耦合到所述的电子插口,当连接器插头插入所述的插口时,从所述的光管道提供光到所述的电子连接器插头的透明体。
21.根据权利要求20所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的光管道由Lexan组成。
22.根据权利要求20所述的可视化指示器,包括两个或更多所述的光源来提供一组状态指示器。
23.根据权利要求22所述的可视化指示器,其中至少一个所述的光源发出不同颜色的光来指示所述的电子设备的不同状态。
24.根据权利要求22所述的可视化指示器,其中至少一个所述的光源发出来自另一个所述的光源的不同颜色的光。
25.根据权利要求19所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的光源是LED。
26.根据权利要求19所述的可视化指示器,其中所述的插口被配置成接受RJ-45连接器插头。
