Abstract

The present invention provides a fabric prepared from a modified per course pattern having courses of spandex covered with a stiff yarn and bare spandex covered with a stiff yarn; and their use in the production of fabrics and elastic knitwear.

Description

Modified elastic knitted fabric for each course and clothes thereof
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a fabric prepared from a modified version of each course having courses of spandex covered with a rigid yarn and bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn and its use in producing elastic knitwear.
Background
Two conventional options for incorporating spandex into a garment, such as a hosiery, include each course pattern as depicted in fig. 1A and an alternating course pattern as depicted in fig. 1B. The elastic rayon fiber may be covered with, for example, polyamide, or may be bare and knitted in every course as depicted in fig. 1A or in alternating courses as depicted in fig. 1B.
For example, the garments of Each Course of Pantyhose (ECPH) include balanced stitches and generally provide higher quality garments. Typically, the spandex is covered. ECPH provides a balanced smooth appearance and uniform freedom of movement. However, knitting ECPH can be challenging where yarn quality is critical, thus making ECPH more costly to produce. In addition, ECPH appears opaque and too small in size before setting due to the high shrinkage of the elastic fibers (elastane).
Spandex garments (e.g., ECPH) prepared from conventional each course pattern are known and are produced primarily for their excellent comfort, stretch and uniformity. However, some knitters and retailers claim that typical ECPH structures covered with yarn cannot be used to make "glossy" or "shiny" thin through garments because the distortion of the polyamide eliminates most of its gloss.
Negative aspects include, but are not limited to, tactile feel, brittleness, and inexpensive appearance, making thin, light weight ECPH of uncovered yarn components produced via bare knitting techniques undesirable.
Thus, when a shiny hosiery item is desired, a shine effect is typically provided by using a bright polyamide in an Alternating Course (AC) configuration. Most of the gloss comes from the inelastic courses. Garments such as Alternating Course Pantyhose (ACPH) comprise alternating courses of spandex, typically covered with polyamide and flat or textured polyamide. Alternating courses comprising polyamide may often result in longer stitches. ACPH is more flexible when polyamide is used, thereby making ACPH less costly. In addition, the ACPH may have a high gloss appearance or a glossy appearance. However, in thin permeable ACPH, the garment is generally less comfortable, the cross-stitch consistency is lower, and the run-off resistance is not possible with known industrial techniques.
There is a need for a lower cost hosiery garment having improved comfort, gloss, flexibility of use of polyamide or other rigid yarns, and/or run-off resistance.

Drawings
Fig. 1A-1C are diagrams comparing a typical per course pantyhose construction (fig. 1A), a typical alternating course pantyhose construction (fig. 1B), and a modified per course version of the invention (fig. 1C) comprising spandex covered with polyamide and bare spandex covered with polyamide in every other course.
Detailed Description
The present invention provides fabrics prepared from modified per course patterns having courses of spandex covered with rigid yarns and bare spandex covered with rigid yarns, elastic knitwear prepared from these fabrics, and methods for producing elastic knitwear having lower cost and improved comfort, increased gloss, and/or, in some embodiments, increased run resistance compared to fabrics prepared from conventional per course and/or alternating course patterns.
The term "spandex" as used herein is also intended to include elastane and/or lycra (lycra).
The "traditional per course version" used for the purpose of the present invention to compare the improvement of gloss and/or the run resistance and/or the cost means a fabric knitted in each course by spandex covered with polyamide.
The "traditional alternate course type" for the purpose of the present invention for the improvement of comparative comfort and/or anticreep properties means a fabric knitted from spandex covered with polyamide or bare spandex covered with polyamide in every other course and polyamide only.
For the purposes of the present invention, "over-coating" or "coated" means that the rigid yarn and the bare spandex yarn remain in a parallel, side-by-side relationship throughout the knit, while the relationship between the two yarns is controlled so that the spandex material remains on one side of the rigid yarn at all times.
Since all courses are elastic and thus technically ECPH with all benefits in terms of comfort and stretchability, the fabric of the present invention is prepared from each course pattern modified.
One of the elastic courses of the fabric of the invention comprises spandex covered with a stiff yarn. The covered spandex can be single covered, double covered, or air jet covered. Important advantages of using covered yarns in the fabric of the present invention include (but are not limited to): compared with plastics, the soft touch feeling is more natural; since the spandex is covered and not directly exposed to the skin, the spandex has a silky tactile sensation; and reduced brittleness as compared to bare spandex.
Another elastic course of the fabric of the present invention comprises bare spandex covered with a stiff yarn. Any spandex suitable for use in the fabrics of the present invention can be used in one non-limiting embodiment, the spandex being meltable.
Any rigid yarn may be used in the present invention. Non-limiting examples may include polyamide, polyester, or polypropylene. In one non-limiting embodiment, the rigid yarn is a polyamide. As will be understood by those skilled in the art upon reading this disclosure, any polyamide may be used, the choice will depend on the desired characteristics including, but not limited to, brightness, volume, uniformity, and gloss of the resulting fabric.
The inclusion of uncovered, still elastic courses in the fabric of the present invention enables rigid yarns, such as polyamide, to glow because there are no corners to inhibit shine. Thus, the gloss of the fabrics of the present invention is higher compared to typical ECPH. In addition, the negative effects of using bare spandex in one portion of courses are mitigated by other portions of covered courses, thereby providing a sheen-resistant garment with glossiness.
Various repeating patterns of two elastic courses may be used in the fabric of the present invention, and the selection may depend on the garment and/or knit pattern of the fabric used.
For example, fig. 1C depicts a repeating pattern comprising courses of spandex covered with a rigid yarn followed by courses of bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn.
In an alternative non-limiting embodiment, the fabric may comprise a single course of spandex covered with a rigid yarn followed by a repeating pattern knit of two or more courses of bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn.
In an alternative non-limiting embodiment, the fabric may comprise two or more courses of spandex covered with a rigid yarn followed by a repeat pattern knit of a single course of bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn.
In knitting socks, the number of feeds of different courses is usually 4 and these feeds may all be the same or different.
However, in seamless knitting there are typically 8 feeds, whereas in circular knitting 32 or more feeds are used.
As will be understood by those skilled in the art upon reading this disclosure, any of these patterns, as well as alternative patterns, may be used in accordance with the present invention, and the present invention is in no way limited to any particular repeating pattern or number of courses of spandex covered with rigid yarns, followed by courses of bare spandex covered with rigid yarns.
In one non-limiting embodiment, the fabric is prepared by weft knitting.
In one non-limiting embodiment, other yarns are added to the feed, for example to make the fabric heavier or to introduce designs, patterns and/or colors into the fabric.
The present invention also provides garments, at least a portion of which are made from these fabrics having a modified per course pattern comprising courses of spandex covered with a rigid yarn and courses of bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn. In one non-limiting embodiment, the garment is a thin, permeable garment. In one non-limiting embodiment, the garment has an 8 to 20 to 25 denier appearance. In one non-limiting embodiment, the garment is a knitted sock or undergarment. In one non-limiting embodiment of a knitted sock, the fabric of the present invention may be used in a leg portion, wherein a pant or other portion may comprise a fabric having a typical construction. In an alternative non-limiting embodiment, the garment is non-sheer.
The invention further provides methods of improving the comfort, increasing the gloss, and/or increasing the run resistance of an elastic knit garment and methods of reducing the cost of an elastic knit garment. These methods comprise preparing a garment from at least a portion of a fabric comprising courses of spandex covered with a rigid yarn and courses of bare spandex covered with a rigid yarn.
