背景技术
金属交易卡和混合金属/塑料交易卡在本领域中是公知的,包括如在由本申请的同一拥有者拥有并且通过引用合并至本文中的题为“TRANSACTION AND ID CARDS HAVINGSELECTED TEXTURE AND COLORING”的专利申请序列第US20150339564号中所描述的。
随着交易卡制造商、分发者和拥有者寻求新的选择来区分他们的卡的外观和产生具有更大吸引力的卡,在该领域中一直期望提供具有独特特征的卡。
发明内容

在一些实施方式中,被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面处在多层卡的装饰层上,但在其他实施方式中,被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面可以是固体材料例如固体金属的表面。应当理解的是,在本文中讨论的任何结构中的金属可以包括纯金属或该金属的合金。
多层卡具有芯,具有被锈蚀或待锈蚀的可见表面的装饰层被固定到所述芯。芯可以是金属或非金属。在一个实施方式中,芯包括第一金属,例如不锈钢,并且装饰层包括第二金属,例如铜。在一个实施方式中,例如,卡可以包括包覆在(例如,被辊压到)0.018英寸不锈钢层上方的0.002英寸铜层。在卡的正面和背面上都具有装饰层的实施方式中,第一被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面可以处在第一铜层上,并且第二被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面可以处在第二铜层上,并且不锈钢芯可以设置在第一铜层与第二铜层之间。
在一些多层实施方式中,装饰层可以包括被层压到芯的金属箔,例如被层压到不锈钢芯的铜箔。例如,在一个实施方式中,箔的厚度可以在0.003英寸-0.005英寸的范围内。
在具有仅从卡的正面可见的装饰层的实施方式中,卡可以包括:包括第一金属例如铜的装饰层;包括第二层例如不锈钢的芯;和卡的背面上的塑料层。
非预置卡可以包括设置在被锈蚀或待锈蚀的层上或上方的装饰标记、信息标记或其组合。保护层优选地设置在被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面上方。因此,如果标记与该层直接接触,则标记可以被认为是在被锈蚀或待锈蚀的层之“上”,如果它被设置在在该被锈蚀的层上方设置的不同层上,则标记可以被认为是在被锈蚀的层的“上方”。
本发明的另一方面包括一种用于制造具有正面和背面的交易卡的方法,其中,该方法包括以下步骤:锈蚀从卡的至少一侧可见的至少第一表面,并提供该卡以预置和分发给持卡者。该方法通常还包括:在锈蚀该卡之前或在将卡分发给最终用户之前处理相关表面以给予其更高的锈蚀亲和力。例如,可以通过从表面机械地去除任何氧化物来活化金属面的表面来处理金属表面以促进锈蚀,例如但不限于通过湿喷射或干喷射步骤的实施。然后,处理表面的步骤可以包括:首先在存在还原剂的情况下通过酸活化对金属进行化学锈蚀,然后将被锈蚀的金属表面暴露于碱性溶液。适用于酸活化的酸可以是氨基磺酸、硝酸、盐酸、硫酸、甲酸、乙酸、任何其它单质子或多质子强酸或弱酸,或任何路易斯酸如氯化铝。合适的还原剂可以包括硫脲、DTT、TCEP,或化学领域的技术人员已知的任何其他强还原剂。合适的碱性溶液可以包含碳酸氢盐,例如碳酸氢钠。然而,本发明不限于使用任何特定的化学试剂。在其他实施方式中,用于对表面进行锈蚀的方法可以包括火焰处理方法或电解处理方法。

具体实施方式
现在参照附图,图1和图3分别示出了示例性交易卡的正面和背面。图2A和图2B是示例性卡结构的非限制性截面示意图。
如图1所示,典型的交易卡10具有正表面12,正表面12具有可选的接触芯片14和可以印刷、压印或以其他方式设置在卡的正表面上的各种标记。示例性标记包括但不限于卡分发者的名称(例如银行、百货商店等)15,第一组商标16(例如,

和/或与其相关联的徽标或图形)、卡号17、到期日期18和卡拥有者名字19。如图3所示,卡10的背表面32通常包括磁条34、签名块33,并且还可以包括附加标记,例如安全码35、条形码36、持卡者的照片37、另外的一组或多组商标38(例如,共同分发者的商标,或与在卡的正面找到的商标拥有者或分发者有关的相同或不同的商标)以及一个或更多个安全特征,例如全息图39。还可以提供附加标记(未示出),例如卡的背景的各个部分中的图形设计,并且并非所有实施方式都可以具有在本文中描述的所有标记。应当理解的是,标记的位置(包括在卡的正面还是背面)和类型(以及其他特征)可以随卡而变化,并且本发明不以任何方式限于特定标记、它们的位置或提供它们的方式(例如印刷、激光处理、压印等)。
值得注意的是,非预置(non-provisioned)(即“空白”卡)通常缺少标记,例如卡号17、到期日期18、卡拥有者名字19和安全码35(所有这些通常存在于已分发的预置卡)以及可能仅存在于某些卡上的某些可选标记,例如照片37和条形码36。上述某些其他标记也可能是缺乏的,例如,如果卡分发者在在其他方面类似的卡上具有多种类型的商标,或者相同类型的交易卡具有在其他方面相同的卡的多个卡分发者。非预置卡也尚未具有在磁条34或芯片14上编码的信息。本文中使用的术语“非预置卡”是指其中卡尚未被完全个性化以分发给最终用户的处于任何状态的卡,例如但不限于卡制造商向卡分发者例如信用卡公司提供卡空白的状态。
图2C示出了包括多层卡的第一示例性卡结构,所述多层卡包括芯22和装饰层26。图2A至图2C旨在仅示出截面的一部分(不是从边缘到边缘延伸跨越整个卡)并且并非按比例的(即未描绘层的相对厚度)。装饰层的表面28包括锈蚀或已经被活化以促进锈蚀。如本领域所知,锈蚀是“在石头表面上不同形成的薄层;在铜、青铜和类似金属上不同形成的薄层(通过氧化或其他化学过程产生的暗锈);在木材上不同形成的薄层(由老化、磨损和抛光产生的光泽);或通过老化和曝露获得的任何这种表面变化”,维基百科。在金属表面上,锈蚀可以包括各种化学化合物的天然存在的涂层,例如但不限于形成在金属表面上的金属的氧化物、碳酸盐、硫化物、硫酸盐和氯化物。例如,已知示例性铜锈蚀的组合物包含铜和硫化铜、氧化铜、硫酸铜、氯化铜及其组合,这取决于铜的环境暴露。锈蚀不限于任何特定的组合物。在本发明的优选实施方式中,装饰层26是金属,例如但不限于铜、黄铜或青铜,最优选地为铜,但是装饰层可以包括已经被锈蚀或已经被处理以促进锈蚀的其他表面。可以使用本领域已知的用于处理表面以产生锈蚀或用于通过对表面活化以促进锈蚀来使得表面待锈蚀的任何技术,其中一些在本文中进一步描述。
在图2B所示的替选实施方式中,卡并不包括多层结构,而是可以包括具有前被锈蚀层208和后被锈蚀层209的固体206,例如固体金属或金属合金,例如铜。如本文所使用的,术语“多层卡”是指在卡的被锈蚀表面与相对表面之间具有多个层的卡。
如图2A所示,被锈蚀表面28优选地还具有施加在其上的保护层29,例如在将JohnHerslow列出为发明人并且由本发明的申请人拥有的题为“CARD WITH METAL LAYER ANDELECTROSTATIC PROTECTION”的美国公布申请第20150180229号中公开的任何保护层或其组合。尽管仅在图2A中示出,但应当理解,类似的保护层(未示出)可以存在于图2B中的层208和209上方以及如图2C所示的被锈蚀表面28和金属芯22的背表面两者上方。
在某些多层卡实施方式中,例如图2A所示,芯22可以包括非金属结构,例如但不限于塑料、陶瓷、木材或其组合。如本文所用,对“塑料层”的任何提及应理解为包括本领域已知的任何化合物并且通常被称为塑料、聚合物或树脂,特别是已知的用于制造交易卡的这种化合物,例如但不限于聚氯乙烯(PVC)。此外,任何对塑料“层”的提及实际上可以包括多层塑料,例如在层压步骤期间被熔合在一起以变得彼此永久粘合的相同或不同塑料的层。在其他实施方式中,芯22可以包括金属,并且具体地,芯22可以包括第一金属,例如但不限于不锈钢,并且装饰层26可以包括第二金属,例如但不限于铜。在一个实施方式中,固定到芯22的背面的层24可以包括塑料层24。在另一实施方式中,层24可以包括另一金属(例如铜)层,使得这些层包括铜/不锈钢/铜。
通常在卡的正面(但不限于此)具有仅一个被锈蚀的侧面的实施方式可能比具有两个被锈蚀的侧面的实施方式更理想,因为可能理想的是仅在一个表面上锈蚀或失去光泽。为了防止不需要的或进一步失去光泽,可以在被锈蚀(或未被锈蚀的)表面上提供表面涂层(例如锈蚀延迟剂)以防止进一步(或任何)锈蚀或失去光泽。例如,在本文中提到的保护性涂层相对于没有这种涂层的表面提供至少一些锈蚀延迟,并且具体地,期望在上面通过引用而并入的在先前待决申请中描述的保护性涂层几乎完全防止进一步锈蚀。然而,促进锈蚀的对气体更具渗透性的其它涂层如氧气和/或水分可,可以允许在施加涂层后继续锈蚀。因此,一旦已达到期望程度的锈蚀,则处理、涂覆或覆盖锈蚀表面以防止(或延迟到期望程度)进一步的锈蚀。因此,在具有两个金属侧面的实施方式中,一侧可以具有被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面,并且可以对相对侧进行处理以防止锈蚀或限制进一步的锈蚀。因此,在本文中提及的被锈蚀表面可以具有期望程度的锈蚀并且防止额外的锈蚀,或者部分被锈蚀并且暴露于额外的锈蚀。应当理解的是,某些处理可能有助于快速锈蚀,而其他处理可以显著阻止但不能完全阻止一些锈蚀,并且如果不进行处理以加速或阻止这样的锈蚀,即使待锈蚀表面也可能以正常速率随时间经受进一步的锈蚀。
因此,本发明的各方面包括这样的实施方式,其中卡的不同侧面可以包括具有不同表面处理的相同的易受锈蚀材料以促进不同速率的锈蚀和/或在被锈蚀的或易受锈蚀的表面上方的不同的表面处理(例如,正面可以包括具有较高程度的锈蚀的铜,其中,处理将允许以比未处理表面上发生的相对较小的第一速率的一些另外的锈蚀,并且后侧可以具有相对最小的锈蚀或没有锈蚀,其中,处理旨在通过允许以比卡的前侧、被处理以延迟锈蚀的两侧而不是利用与其他相比具有更多的锈蚀延迟剂的化合物进行处理的一侧上的涂层允许的速率相对较小的第二速率的锈蚀,以在分发之后完全阻止锈蚀或使锈蚀最小化。
因此,一些实施方式可以具有不希望锈蚀的覆盖有保护性涂层的部分,以及希望锈蚀的保持未被覆盖(或不同地被覆盖)的其他部分。覆盖和未被覆盖/不同地被覆盖的部分可以在卡的相同(例如,前)表面上。例如,可能期望在卡的提供关键信息(例如卡号和持卡者的名称)的区域中不具有大量锈蚀,并且可以在卡的其他空白和装饰区域中自由地允许锈蚀。在某些实施方式中,卡的同一侧可以具有第一部分和第二部分,第一部分覆盖有具有第一程度的锈蚀延迟性能的第一涂层,第二部分覆盖有具有第二程度的锈蚀延迟性能的第二涂层。在一个示例性制造工艺中,可以首先用锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止涂层覆盖整个表面,并且然后在希望锈蚀的区域中去除涂层。例如,该去除可以用激光或用化学去除步骤执行,但去除不限于任何特定的作用。类似地,在卡的单个表面上方的均匀涂层可能使某些部分呈现较差的保护性(但涂层未完全去除)。
一种示例性制造方法包括在存在还原剂的情况下通过酸活化对铜进行锈蚀,然后暴露于碳酸氢钠溶液。还可以通过火焰锈蚀工艺或电解工艺来提供锈蚀。可以通过物理地例如通过例如湿喷射或干喷射的机械手段从表面去除任何氧化物来活化金属(例如铜)表面从而来提供待锈蚀的表面。提供待锈蚀表面的步骤可以在在本文中所描述的锈蚀步骤之前执行,产生锈蚀,然后将卡分发给持卡者,或者可以在其待锈蚀状态中将卡分发给持卡者以允许由用户随时间的个性化锈蚀。然而,产生锈蚀的方法不限于任何特定的方法,并且可以包括本领域已知的任何方法,包括例如在通过引用合并至本文中的Watson-Guptill出版(1991年2月1日)的由Richard Hughes和Michael Rowe的“The Coloring,Bronzing andPatination of Metals”中讨论的方法。
在现有技术的卡在持卡者的手中可能已经能够随时间形成可以表征为的锈蚀某种程度的磨损的程度上,与在本文描述的方法的区别在于,在提供卡以分发给持卡者之前产生期望程度的锈蚀,或者卡可以被有意地处理以相对于尚未被如此处理的卡来加速锈蚀。卡本身与经过某种程度的自然锈蚀的现有技术卡的区别在于,非预置卡(在分发给持卡者以及交付给卡分发者之前具有期望程度的锈蚀或表面处理以允许加速的锈蚀,并且在一些实施方式中,在由锈蚀延迟层或涂层保护的至少一个可见表面或层上具有一定程度的锈蚀。期望程度的锈蚀可以是人眼显著可见的任何量的有意产生的锈蚀,现有技术的卡或在其上制造所述卡的衬底包括易受锈蚀的材料,如果已经摒弃在制造过程期间曾无意地产生或接受到的一定程度的锈蚀,则无意的锈蚀可以不被描述为期望程度的锈蚀。被摒弃的过程中衬底或卡会致使卡或衬底被废弃或加工以在其上接受任何保护性涂层或进一步处理以制造最终的非预置卡之前去除不理想的可见锈蚀,并且甚至不会达到提供以进行预置的阶段。
相比之下,根据本发明的处于其非预置状态的卡(即,尚未利用用户特定信息进行个性化但是在其他方面准备好用于这种预置并且提供给卡分发者以进行这样的预置的卡“空白”)具有通过至少延迟进一步的锈蚀的表面涂层保护的具有期望程度的锈蚀的被锈蚀或待锈蚀的表面。应当理解,短语“提供卡以用于分发”意指向卡分发者提供空白卡以进一步预置以将卡配置成使其准备好进行交易的步骤。因此,根据在本领域中公知的过程和方法,期望在提供非预置卡以用于分发和实际分发以及将预置卡交付给持卡者的步骤之间发生由一方或更多方执行的附加步骤。
示例
示例1:混合(金属-塑料)卡

实施方式3:铜单板(金属-塑料)卡
如图2A所示,将薄铜箔(平均0.003英寸-0.005英寸)用粘合剂(粘合剂层未示出)层压到不锈钢芯22(~0.015英寸)上,并将塑料背面24层压到铜/SS上。该3部分层压可以在组合这3种部件的单一过程中进行,或者逐步地每次层压2种部件。塑料层24实际上可以包括几层塑料,这几层在层压期间熔合以永久粘合。如在本文中所描述,铜表面还具有设置在其上的保护性硬涂层29。
实施方式4:示例性锈蚀
示例性锈蚀工艺可以包括表面处理、盐暴露和具有保护性涂层的层压。对于表面处理,铜材料用碎玻璃或其他适当的介质,如氧化铝进行湿喷射处理。然后用含有硫脲和氨基磺酸的溶液擦拭片材。然后用甲基乙基酮和异丙醇依次擦拭该片材并用空气干燥。然后将片材浸入碳酸氢钠溶液(0.5盎司/夸脱-m/v)中30分钟。然后用RO水冲洗该片材并用空气干燥。通过压板层压将保护性硬涂层转移到片材的向外侧,从而基本上在施加硬涂层时获得的锈蚀程度下冻结锈蚀过程。现在,片材已准备好以进一步处理成卡以准备进行预置。
在所有上述示例中,卡的可见表面可以具有设置在其上的各种标记,例如但不限于通过激光或喷墨打印。标记可以包括例如通过本领域已知的任何方法制造或设置在装饰层上方的装饰标记或信息标记,包括图形、图案、纹理等。尽管未在图中示出,但应当理解的是,在多层实施方式中,每个锈蚀的装饰层可以延伸在卡的整个正表面或背表面上方,或者可以设置在由框架围绕的口袋中,例如US20150339564的图10A至10C所示。在这种实施方式中,框架的材料可以包括金属或非金属结构,并且卡可以在框架下方或设置在口袋中的装饰层上方具有任何数量的附加层。还应当理解,在这种结构中,装饰层通常包括装饰层面向的卡的一侧的大部分表面,并且在对于芯片卡可以在其上存在金属触点的程度上,装饰层包括与触点不同的材料或不同处理的材料,其中,装饰层具有比触点更大程度的锈蚀。因此,在芯片卡上的已知金属触点随着时间而可能锈蚀的程度上,这种触点不构成卡的大部分(或卡的整个表面,如在一些实施方式中的装饰表面),并且它们在卡的非预置状态下不被锈蚀并且覆盖有保护层,如在本文中描述的装饰层的情况。

Claims (27)

1.一种具有第一可见表面和第二可见表面的空白交易卡,所述第一可见表面和所述第二可见表面中的至少一个包括第一区域,并且所述第一可见表面和所述第二可见表面中的至少一个包括与所述第一区域分开的第二区域,
其中,所述第一区域包括:(a)具有期望的可感知的程度的锈蚀的被锈蚀表面,所述被锈蚀表面由锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止层来保护,或者(b)经受表面处理的待锈蚀表面,所述表面处理被配置成促进相对于不被这样配置的表面的加速锈蚀,
其中,当所述第一区域包括所述被锈蚀表面时,所述第一区域的锈蚀程度大于所述第二区域的锈蚀程度,并且
其中,当所述第一区域包括所述待锈蚀表面时,所述加速锈蚀的速率大于所述第二区域的锈蚀的速率。
2.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面处在选自于包括石材、木材、金属和皮革的组的衬底上。
3.根据权利要求2所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述衬底包括选自于包括下列物质的组的金属:铜、青铜、黄铜、银和前述物质的任意组合。
4.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面处在多层卡的装饰层上。
5.根据权利要求4所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述空白交易卡包括芯,所述芯具有固定到所述芯的所述装饰层。
6.根据权利要求5所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述芯是非金属,并且所述装饰层包括金属。
7.根据权利要求5所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述芯包括第一金属,并且所述装饰层包括第二金属。
8.根据权利要求7所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述装饰层包括铜,并且所述芯包括不锈钢。
9.根据权利要求8所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述空白交易卡包括被辊压到0.018英寸不锈钢层上的0.002英寸铜层。
10.根据权利要求4所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述装饰层包括被层压到芯的金属箔。
11.根据权利要求10所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述金属箔包括铜,并且所述芯包括不锈钢。
12.根据权利要求11所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述箔的厚度在0.003英寸-0.005英寸的范围内。
13.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一区域设置在所述第一可见表面上,并且所述第二区域设置在所述第二可见表面上。
14.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面设置在所述空白交易卡的正面上。
15.根据权利要求4所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述装饰层在所述空白交易卡的正面上,并且所述空白交易卡还包括在所述空白交易卡的背面上的塑料层。
16.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,包括设置在所述空白交易卡的正面上的第一被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面以及设置在所述空白交易卡的背面上的第二被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面。
17.根据权利要求16所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面处在第一铜层上,并且所述第二被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面处在第二铜层上。
18.根据权利要求17所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述空白交易卡是具有设置在所述第一铜层与所述第二铜层之间的不锈钢芯的多层卡。
19.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一可见表面包括所述空白交易卡的正面并且包括易受锈蚀的材料,并且所述第二可见表面包括所述空白交易卡的背面并且包括易受锈蚀的材料,其中,所述第一可见表面或所述第二可见表面中的仅一个被锈蚀。
20.根据权利要求19所述的空白交易卡,还包括:设置在所述第一区域和所述第二区域中的一个上的第一锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层;以及设置在所述第一区域和所述第二区域中的另一个上的第二锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层、或者零锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层。
21.根据权利要求20所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层设置在所述第一区域和所述第二区域中的所述一个的整体的上方,并且所述第二锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层设置在所述第一区域和所述第二区域中的所述另一个的整体的上方。
22.根据权利要求21所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一区域和所述第二区域包括相同的材料,并且所述第一锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层提供与所述第二锈蚀延迟或锈蚀防止处理表面或层不同的锈蚀延迟或防止速率。
23.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,还包括设置在所述被锈蚀表面或待锈蚀表面上的装饰标记、信息标记或其组合。
24.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述空白交易卡呈由卡分发者从卡制造商接收到时的状态。
25.根据权利要求1所述的空白交易卡,其中,所述第一区域和所述第二区域二者都设置在所述空白交易卡的所述第一可见表面上,所述第二区域包括包含选自于包括卡号和持卡者名称的组的卡标记的区域,并且所述第一区域包括不包含所述卡标记的区域。
