背景技术

发明内容

图1阐述了在芯118上缠绕的水活化胶带130的卷100。为了解释说明,参考图1和2,相对于该页码,从顶部到底部,水活化的胶带130包括剥离层126(任选),层压到纸张背衬112上的膜增强116挤出物和水活化粘合剂114。纸张背衬112(也称为基底)具有第一主(顶)表面132,第二主(底)表面134,和第一面136和第二面138。在背衬112的底表面134上施加水活化的粘合剂114,和在纸张背衬112的顶表面上施加膜增强剂116。挤出层压牵涉在其间用将各层粘合在一起的软化或熔融的层使多层在一起,所述软化或熔融的层一旦放置,则硬化。
膜增强剂116包括通过含一种或多种增强聚乙烯树脂,聚烯烃塑性体,甚低密度聚乙烯,尼龙,聚酯和共聚酯的层压层122挤出层压到纸张背衬112上的取向膜作为最外部的膜层124。最外部的膜层124可以是聚酯膜,尼龙膜,聚乙烯膜或聚丙烯膜或能形成为薄的取向膜结构的任何其他聚合物。在一个实施方案中,取向膜被双轴取向。在另一实施方案中,取向膜被单轴取向。取向膜以约0.5mil至约2mil的厚度存在。在另一实施方案中,膜以约1.0mil(25微米)的厚度存在。在实施例1中公开的一个例举的实施方案中,膜层124是双轴取向的聚丙烯膜,特别地是双轴取向的聚丙烯均聚物。在实施例2-4中公开的另一例举实施方案中,膜层124是双轴取向的聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(它是一种聚酯膜)。
层压层122包括可软化或熔融以供挤出层压且将粘合选择的取向膜层124到纸张背衬112上的材料。典型地,层压层122在其内具有能与纸张背衬和取向膜层二者形成粘结体的至少一种材料。例如,当取向膜包括聚乙烯时,层压层同样可包括聚乙烯,例如增强聚乙烯树脂,聚烯烃塑性体,和/或甚低密度聚乙烯。在另一实施方案中,层压层122可以是尼龙或聚酯或共聚酯材料。若使用诸如取向聚酯之类的膜,则层压层可以是聚酯和/或其他材料,例如,一种或多种塑性体。具有取向聚酯作为膜和含一种或多种塑性体但不存在聚酯的层压层的实施方案将要求膜表面与使用诸如电晕或火焰处理之类的方法处理过的层压层一起层压,以确保合适地粘合。
合适的增强聚乙烯树脂的实例以商标ELITETM获自DowChemical Company。这些是乙烯α烯烃树脂。在一个实施方案中,增强聚乙烯树脂的熔体质量流速大于3.5g/10min,更优选大于5g/10min,和熔融温度(热,非挤出)大于200°F,更优选大于250°F。在一个实施方案中,层压层122由密度为约0.91g/cm3,熔体指数为约15g/10min,和熔融温度为约255°F的ELITETM增强聚乙烯树脂组成。在另一实施方案中,层压层122包括约40%至约99%w/w密度为约0.91g/cm3,熔体质量流速为约15g/10min,和熔融温度为约255°F的ELITETM增强聚乙烯树脂,余量为密度大于0.91g/cm3,熔融温度在增强聚乙烯树脂的熔融温度约+/-5°F以内,和/或熔体指数大于5g/10min的一种或多种其他聚乙烯树脂。
在另一实施方案中,层压层包括约70%至85%w/w的增强PE树脂,约10%至25%w/w一种或多种其他聚乙烯树脂,和余量是添加剂。增强PE树脂优选以约20%至100%w/w,和最优选约30%至80%w/w的百分比存在。一种或多种“其他”聚乙烯树脂可包括线性低密度聚乙烯(LLDPE),低密度聚乙烯(LDPE),中密度聚乙烯(MDPE),高密度聚乙烯(HDPE),可获得的任何前述的茂金属变体等。在一个实施方案中,添加LDPE到增强PE树脂中,以改进挤出加工性,例如减少缩径并改进熔体强度。它典型地添加约10%-40%w/w,以实现这些改进。在铸塑挤出(cast extrusion)涂布工艺中,LDPE的优选的熔体指数为约1-20g/10min,优选3-10g/10min。
合适的聚烯烃塑性体以商标AFFINITYTM获自DowChemical Company和以商标EXACTTM获自Exxon Mobile Corporation。AFFINITYTM聚烯烃塑性体的密度范围为0.870g/cm3至0.878g/cm3,根据DowChemical自己的试验方法测定的熔点为154°F至158°F,和在190℃下采用2.16kg重物测量的熔体指数为500g/10min至1250g/10min。EXACTTM塑性体是茂金属催化的乙烯α烯烃共聚物。用于本文公开的应用的合适的茂金属催化的乙烯α烯烃共聚物包括密度范围为0.870g/cm3至0.905g/cm3,熔体指数范围为1-30g/10min,和2-20g/10min的那些。
合适的甚低密度聚乙烯以商标FLEXOMERTM获自Dow Chemical Company,且密度范围为约0.905至约0.910g/cm3,和熔体质量流速范围为0.5g/10min至2.5g/10min。
层压层122以约0.5mil至约2mil的厚度存在。在另一实施方案中,层压层122以约1.0mil(25微米)至约1.3mil(32.5微米)的厚度存在。
在层压层内包括的添加剂可包括一种或多种UV抑制剂,抗氧化剂,颜料,和抗静电剂,但不限于这些。
作为挤出层压最外部膜层124到纸张背衬112上的结果,水活化的胶带130并不容易从中剥离。也就是说,一旦层压,则不容易将最外部膜层124从纸张背衬112上分离。
纸张背衬112可以是任何类型的纸张,其中包括,但不限于,皱纸,非-皱纸,或剥离纸。优选地,纸张背衬112是牛皮纸。起皱的NBSK(Northern漂白软木牛皮纸)纸幅是在本发明中使用的一种合适的背衬。在一个实施方案中,使用牛皮纸且是20至57lb的牛皮纸。
可使用或者挤出,任何方式的辊涂,刮涂,棒涂或刮板涂布,幕涂或任何合适的方法,将水活化的粘合剂114作为溶剂流延的、水性、无溶剂或熔融膜或者作为涂布层施加到纸张背衬112上。在一个实施方案中,水活化的粘合剂114以约0.1mil至约2.5mil的厚度存在。水活化的粘合剂114可以是任何常规的水活化粘合剂或者适合于封箱或硬纸盒密封胶带的下文开发的粘合剂(也称为包装胶带)。在一个实施方案中,水活化的粘合剂114基于来自玉米,高粱,小麦,西米,木薯,豆科植物,大麦,大米和/或土豆的淀粉。在另一实施方案中,水活化的粘合剂114可以是聚乙烯醇-基可再润湿的粘合剂。
膜层压的水活化胶带的连续制造方法包括提供水活化的纸胶带,所述纸胶带包括确定其底部主表面的具有水活化的粘合剂的纸张背衬,和与水活化的粘合剂相对,将膜增强结构挤出层压到纸张背衬上。该膜增强结构包括最外部的取向聚烯烃膜,和含一种或多种增强聚乙烯树脂,聚烯烃塑性体,甚低密度聚乙烯,尼龙,聚酯和共聚酯的最内部的层压层。挤出层压将最内部的层压层与纸张背衬相邻布置,且包括在与粘合剂层相对的表面上的纸张背衬上一起共挤出最外部的聚烯烃膜和最内部的层压层。该方法也可包括在共挤出最外部的聚烯烃膜和最内部的层压层之后降低胶带温度,和之后在辊上缠绕胶带,并将成卷的胶带分切成多个卷的膜层压水活化胶带。
在一个实施方案中,共挤出包括挤出最外部的聚烯烃膜,具有约0.5mil至约2.0mil的厚度,和挤出最内部的层压层,具有约0.5mil至约2.0mil的厚度。
在另一实施方案中,膜层压的水活化的胶带的连续制造方法也可包括提供纸张背衬,和在共挤出最外部的聚烯烃膜和层压层到纸张背衬上之前,施加水活化的粘合剂到其底部主表面上。层压层组合物如上所述,且取向的聚烯烃膜可以是双轴取向的聚丙烯膜或双轴取向的聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯。
以上所述的水活化的纸胶带不需要长丝稀布增强层(filament scrimreinforcement layer),而仅仅要求一层纸。这导致在与当今可商购的硬纸盒密封胶带类似或较低总成本下,具有均匀穿孔和撕裂性能的胶带产品,以及对于给定的卷直径来说,生产提供更大长度的较薄胶带,从而在施加设备上要求较少的卷变化。例如,对于本发明5.5mil厚的胶带来说,在1"芯上缠绕外径6"的卷将具有约420',相比之下8mil厚的长丝增强的水活化的胶带为约290'。以下包括根据以上所述的方法制造的膜层压的水活化胶带的实例。
实施例1
对于以下列出的数据来说,使用约30gsm增强聚乙烯树脂,Dow ELITETM 5815增强聚乙烯树脂作为连接BOPP膜到水活化的纸胶带的纸张背衬上的层压层,将140等级的水活化的纸胶带(在独立的制造工艺中,它已经具有在其上施加的粘合剂)与25微米的双轴取向的聚丙烯(BOPP)膜一起挤出层压。水活化的纸胶带和BOPP膜是相对坚硬的结构。相反,DowELITETM 5815增强聚乙烯树脂是密度为0.91g/cm3,熔体指数为15g/10min,具有相对低模量,但高熔点(熔融温度255°F)的软树脂。
在下表1中,"MD"代表纵向,和"TD"相对于纵向,代表横向。

对于梯形撕裂试验来说,以缺口或非-缺口试验形式进行。对于缺口试验来说,对取样切口且在缺口处撕裂,并观察破坏主要是层压层122破坏的函数。对于非缺口试验来说,撕裂在聚烯烃膜124下蔓延,直到聚烯烃膜124破坏。
对于这一实施例来说,对双轴取向的聚丙烯提供充足的强度以供充分撕裂存疑。最初认为,要求单轴取向的聚丙烯。然而,令人惊奇地,膜层压的水活化的纸胶带的横向(TD)撕裂起始强度显著增加。上表1中,非缺口的TD撕裂强度(梯形撕裂TD)是引发胶带横向撕裂所要求的力的代表。一旦引发撕裂,则它比缺口撕裂观察到的容易得多地蔓延。这是有益的,因为该胶带可耐受在运输中在箱子上使之断裂的力但相对容易可手撕裂。未出现脆性撕裂。
实施例2-4
对于下表列出的数据来说,使用约1.2mil厚的层压层组合物,将140等级的水活化的纸胶带(在独立的制造工艺中,它已经具有在其上施加的粘合剂)与25微米的双轴取向的聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(BOPET)膜一起挤出层压。层压层组合物包括Dow ELITETM 5815增强聚乙烯树脂和低密度聚乙烯树脂作为层压层,且将BOPET膜成功地连接到水活化的纸胶带的纸张背衬上。水活化的纸胶带和BOPET膜是相对坚硬的结构。相反,Dow ELITETM 5815增强聚乙烯树脂是密度为0.91g/cm3,熔体指数为15g/10min,具有相对低模量,但高熔点(熔融温度255°F)的软树脂。线性低密度聚乙烯(LDPE),DOWTM LDPE 722的密度为约0.92g/cm3,和熔体指数为约8g/10min,和熔融温度为约224°F。

使用梯形撕裂强度,ASTM 4533试验,即梯形-形状的样品,评价所公开的层压膜-WAT的横向(TD)撕裂起始强度。表2中的数据表明,非-缺口TD撕裂强度(梯形撕裂TD)(它是引发胶带横向撕裂所要求的力的代表)足以使得胶带可耐受在运输中在箱子上使之断裂的力。然而,一旦引发撕裂,基于缺口梯形撕裂TD的较低数值,它容易得多地蔓延穿过胶带,从而证明胶带相对容易可手撕裂。
实施例6-6
表3
还采用将膜成功地连接到水活化的纸胶带的纸张背衬上的Dow ELITETM 5815增强聚乙烯树脂和低密度聚乙烯树脂的层压层组合物,进行表3中的实施例。
表3中的对比例是增强的水活化的胶带,一种天然牛皮纸,3种方式增强的轻负荷经济等级的水活化的硬纸盒密封胶带,其采用淀粉基粘合剂制造。三种试验的膜层压的水活化胶带通常具有类似的粘合剂层和粘合剂重量,通常类似的纸张背衬和总厚度。然而,试验5-7的层压的水活化的胶带就撕裂起始强度(这以上表3中的Finch Tear(ASTM D824)数据为代表)来说发挥不同的作用。Finch试验是在交叉或横向上的起始撕裂。此处,所有三个试验具有较高的Finch试验值,这表明该胶带可耐受在运输中在箱子上使之断裂的力。然而,与对比例相比,这三个试验在交叉或横向上的Elmendorf撕裂(ASTMD9122)低得多。这表明,在胶带中引发撕裂之后,试验5-6的膜层压的水活化的胶带相对容易可手撕裂,和起始撕裂不是如此容易引发,以致于在胶带施加到其上的硬纸盒的运输过程中,胶带将破坏。
使用100%HDPE作为层压层,并采用BOPP膜和采用BOPET膜进行的其他试验具有差的粘合性,结果它没有制造有用的硬纸盒密封胶带。
由于已经详细地且参考优选的实施方案描述了本发明,显而易见的是在没有脱离本发明的范围情况下,本发明的改性和变化是可能的。胶带优选是掩膜胶带,但不限于此。

Claims (19)

1.一种水活化的胶带,它包括:
具有顶表面和底表面的纸张背衬;
施加到纸张背衬的底表面上的水活化的粘合剂;和施加到纸张背衬的顶表面上的膜增强结构,其中该膜增强结构包括:
最外部的取向聚烯烃膜;和
将最外部的聚烯烃膜层压到纸张背衬上的层压层,该层压层含以下物质中的一种或多种:增强聚乙烯树脂,聚烯烃塑性体,甚低密度聚乙烯,尼龙,聚酯,和共聚酯。
2.权利要求1的水活化的胶带,其中最外部的取向聚烯烃膜是双轴取向的聚丙烯膜或双轴取向的聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯。
3.权利要求1的水活化的胶带,其中最外部的聚烯烃膜的厚度为约0.5密耳至约2密耳。

6.权利要求1的水活化的胶带,其中纸张背衬包括牛皮纸。
7.权利要求1的水活化的胶带,其中层压层包括增强聚乙烯树脂。
8.权利要求7的水活化的胶带,其中层压层进一步包括低密度聚乙烯树脂。
9.权利要求8的水活化的胶带,其中层压层包括约40%w/w至99%w/w增强聚乙烯树脂。
10.一种膜层压的水活化的纸胶带的制造方法,该方法包括:
提供水活化的纸胶带,其包括界限其底部主表面的具有水活化粘合剂的纸张背衬;
与水活化的粘合剂相对,将膜增强结构挤出层压到纸张背衬上,该膜增强结构包括:
最外部的取向膜;和
含增强聚乙烯树脂,聚烯烃塑性体,甚低密度聚乙烯,尼龙,聚酯和共聚酯中的一种或多种的最内部的层压层;
其中最内部的层压层与纸张背衬相邻。
11.权利要求10的方法,其中挤出层压包括共挤出最外部的聚烯烃膜和最内部的层压层,和之后降低其温度。
