大部分含水的食品产品可以在微波炉中有效地加热。然而,由于微波加热的活性和效率主要取决于通过微波能量加热的食品中的含水量,以同一微波分别单独加热时,含有不同水分的食品以不同效率加热。例如,在本发明的上下文中,单独在微波中加热大约2盎司如玉米粉圆饼片的酥脆食品产品,根据微波的功率大小,在约30秒至约75秒后将严重烧焦。相对照地,以相同微波用同样的时间加热一杯萨尔萨辣酱(salsa),可能仅触摸到温热。还有,酥脆食品的任何尖角或者利边,例如三角形玉米粉圆饼片的角,在微波加热下,比所述食品产品的其他部分更容易烧焦。
申请人在此已经发明了一种食品包装,其使消费者能够在微波中加热酥脆的食品,而不会使食品烧焦。在一个实施例中,所述包装是包括外表面的微波安全的包装,其中所述外表面的至少部分是吸水的。当吸水层已经被弄湿,并将所述包装放到微波中并加热,在所述包装的表面的水作为微波中的额外负载,吸收一些微波能量使所述酥脆的食品产品被暴露于降低的微波能量,更缓慢更均匀地加热。本发明具有落入本发明的最广泛意义上的范围内的多个实施例。
在一个实施例中,所述包装是由多层的包装薄膜制成,所述多层的包装薄膜包括作为最外层的吸水层。图1描述了多层的包装薄膜100的横截面,其包括吸水的外层102。在一个优选的实施例中,所述吸水层102是例如纸层的纤维素基吸水层。在一个实施例中,基本上所述食品包装的外表面的全部都是吸水的。在另一个实施例中,所述食品包装的所述外表面仅有一部分是吸水的。
图1中所描述的薄膜也包括粘附层104,阻隔层106和产品侧层108。所述薄膜可以包括其他层,例如在阻隔层106和产品侧层108之间的阻隔粘附层(未示出),由本发明的实施者来决定。所述粘附层,产品侧层和任意其他的聚合层可以由任意聚合物,聚合树脂,或者聚合物或树脂的结合来制备,其在现有技术中是已知微波安全的,包括如聚乙烯的石油基的聚合物和如聚乳酸聚合物的生物基聚合物。
为了使食品包装是微波安全的,所述阻隔层必须由微波内加热时将不引起电弧的材料制成。通常,金属阻隔层将会引起电弧。因此,典型的汽相沉积的铝阻隔层,或者铝箔层将不适用于本发明。微波安全的阻隔层的优选实例是金属氧化物或者类金属氧化层,包括但不限于二氧化硅,二氧化钛和氧化铝。在一个优选实施例中,所述阻隔层提供了少于3g/m2/天的湿度蒸汽透射率,更优选为少于0.2g/m2/天的湿度蒸汽透射率,任一种情况都是在100°F和90%的相对湿度下测量的。
如本文中所使用的,纳米涂层包含纳米粘土,纳米复合材料或者纳米复合涂料和任何必要的粘附剂。在美国专利号7,223,359中描述了不饱和聚酯。在一个实施例中,所述复合模包含纳米涂层或者纳米粘土层以提供阻隔特性。根据本发明的纳米粘土包括层状硅酸盐片晶,如蛭石,硅酸铝,沸石,膨润土,蒙脱土,高岭石,矾土,绿脱石,贝德石,铬膨润石,水辉石,皂石,硅酸镁锂,锌蒙脱石,水云母,绿泥石,麦烃硅钠石,水羟硅钠石,伊利石及其混合物。在本领域已知的多种聚合物基质可以用作粘合剂以将纳米粘土或者纳米复合成分“粘合”在一起,包括但不限于丙烯酸乳液,苯丙乳液(styrene-acrylics)和聚亚安酯。
在本发明的一个实施例中,在图1中所述的薄膜被进给到已知的垂直成型、填充、密封机中,用于制造出“枕型”或者“袋型”的食品包装。当基本上该包装的整个外表面包括吸水层时,与现有技术的食品包装相比,该包装看上去可能并没有呈现出区别。然而,该食品包装的功能将明显地不同于已知的食品包装。如上所述,所述外表面可以被使用者弄湿,且该弄湿的包装可以在微波中加热以给消费者提供不会烧焦的加热的食品产品。
在其他一些实施例中,食品包装的外表面仅有部分是吸水的。为了防止消费者过度弄湿表面,并因而使用了过高的附加负载,使得包装内的食品产品不能在微波内在合理时间内加热或持续加热,可以优选提供外表面仅有部分是吸水的。在一个优选的实施例中,选择外表面的吸水部分所占的百分数,使得当基本上该吸水部分全部被消费者弄湿后,所述食品包装可以用微波加热一段已知的时间,以持续、有效和高效地加热里面的食品产品。
所述包装的吸水部分的物理尺寸将取决于吸水部分的吸水能力。通常,申请人已经发现当相对较干或者较脆的食品产品在微波中加热时,在食品包装内每约28克的食品产品中可以吸收约0.5克至约1.5克的水的吸水部分,其提供了适当的附加负载来防止食品在加热过程中烧焦。在一个优选的实施例中,该吸水部分可以在食品包装内每约28克的食品产品中吸收约1克的水。较干的食品产品包括但不限于酥脆的食品产品,货架稳定的零食,零食片,薯片,水果脆片,蔬菜脆片,玉米粉圆饼片,椒盐脆饼干,爆米花,咸饼干,挤压膨化食品,空心片和玉米片。本发明的实施例也适用于那些人们需要在高于其销售或储存的温度下食用的糖果,奶糖,饼干和其他食品产品。
本发明的实施者可以有很多不同的方法来提供食品包装,其中其外表面的仅有部分是吸水的。一种提供其外表面的部分作为吸水部分的包装的方法是:将吸水部分施用于已知包装的外表面。在一个实施例中,所述吸水层是胶粘标签或条带的部分,所述胶粘标签或条带包括吸水的表面。吸水标签可以在现有技术的包装形成后被施用到该包装的外表面,或者在制作该包装前或者期间被施用到聚合薄膜表面,从而所述标签将被附着到该包装的外表面。
在另一个实施例中,吸水标签或者吸水层进一步包含水。在该实施例中,被制作的食品包装具有被内置到食品包装中的附加的水负载,使得消费者不需要单独弄湿所述食品包装的吸水部分。该实施例可以为消费者提供额外的便利,并且相比吸水部分提供的水量,制造商可以有更大的控制,从而有可能有效和高效地微波加热食品包装内的产品。
图2描述了一个实施例食品包装200,所述食品包装200具有附着在其外表面206的吸水胶粘标签204。尽管描述了吸水标签204在背密封202对面的包装200的一侧(通常被称为所述包装的“前面”),优选的是将吸水标签204施用到包含背密封202的包装的侧面,因为背密封202的对面的包装的侧面通常包含产品商标和图形,其用于向消费者传递信息,并且所述吸水层可能使商标和图形变模糊。可替换地,可以在包装的前面布置商标和图像使得它们结合在一起,以及甚至可能加入吸水标签。
图2中所示的食品包装200也描绘了可选的刻痕线208。通过在包装薄膜中切割出没有穿透所述薄膜的所有层的凹槽来刻痕所述包装200。可以在包装薄膜已经被制成包装之前,期间或者之后来刻痕所述包装薄膜。在一个实施例中,所述包装的刻痕被设置在外表面,并且在另一个实施例中,所述包装的刻痕被设置在内表面。在任一种情况下,所述薄膜的阻隔特性可能被破坏。如果所述薄膜的阻隔特性被破坏,所述吸水标签可以包括微波安全的阻隔层,且被放置在刻痕线的上方,因此在将吸水标签施加在刻痕线之上时,所述标签恢复了该包装的所有阻隔特性。
在一个优选的实施例中,所述水吸收剂标签是可移动的。可以通过使用粘合剂将可移动的或者可剥离的标签贴附到食品包装上来提供该标签,所述粘合剂与其他用于制备用于食品包装/或者标签的多层薄膜的粘合剂相比,其粘附力更低。提供具有在可移动的吸水标签的下方的刻痕线的食品包装具有以下技术效果:为消费者提供一种如上所述的在微波中加热食品包装的内容物,移除吸水标签,以及接着容易地在刻痕线处打开食品包装以将所述包装变形为方便获取内容物的碗状的方法。在一些情况下,由于食品包装内的气体的膨胀或者蒸汽的产生,在将食品包装从微波移出时,所述刻痕线可能已经被破坏。
在另外一个实施例中,所述吸水标签包括湿度指示器,在标签变湿时,所述湿度指示器变色。可以使用任一种合适的物质来提供该功能。在一个实施例中,将化学制品作为其一部分包括在吸水标签中,该化学制品基于其与水的反应而变色,如氯化钴(II),其在吸水时由蓝色变为粉色。在另一个实施例中,将密封于水溶性壳体中的染料或者颜料作为其一部分包括在吸水标签中。在该实施例中,用于弄湿标签的水将会溶解该壳体,并且使该染料或者颜料能够通过该标签的吸水部分进行分布。
图3描述了设备的一个实施例,所述设备用于将吸水标签条带施加于柔性的食品包装上。其中描述了垂直成型填充密封机。将聚合薄膜310的卷312穿过多个拉力杆314,通过圈316上面,并且围绕填充管318。滚筒320将薄膜310推进到填充管下方,且密封杆322在聚合薄膜片310上形成翅片或者搭接密封324。与此同时,吸水粘附条带342的轴340被连续施用到聚合薄膜片310。将粘附条带342施用到聚合薄膜片310的装置未示出,所以所述粘附条带在该视图中是不受阻碍的。然而,这类装置可以包括类似于滚筒320的滚筒,或者类似于密封杆322的压力密封杆或者热密封杆。如果在吸水粘附条带上使用热激活的粘附剂,该施用装置可以被加热,或者如果使用压敏粘附剂,该施用装置可以仅仅提供压力。随着粘附有吸水条带的聚合薄膜行进到垂直成型填充密封机下方,产品通过填充管318掉到所得到的包装的底部332,且热密杆326密封328,并且将聚合薄膜片切割333成包装330。
在其他一些实施例中,将吸水条带施用到聚合薄膜片上,之后其进入垂直成型填充密封机。在一些实施例中,这样可能会更容易地在薄膜上重新安置所述条带。尽管可以在机器运转方向上施用所述条带,可以通过仅仅将该施用设备跨薄该薄膜片的宽度横向移动,来改变该条带相对于该薄膜片的每侧的位置,而不是将所述设备围绕薄膜管周边移动。在其他一些实施例中,在制作食品包装之前,期间或者之后,将单独的吸水标签放置到聚合薄膜上或者的食品包装上。
另一种提供具有带吸水部分的外表面的食品包装的方法是:制造一种食品包装,其中,基本上整个外表面都是吸水的(例如,使用图1中所描述的薄膜),但是然后用基本上水不能渗透的物质涂覆所述外表面的一部分。例如,具有包含纸的外层的包装可以部分被聚合层覆盖,所述聚合层不使水渗透到纸层。其他制造具有外表面的食品包装的方法(其中外表面有部分是吸水的)均在本发明的范围内。
尽管已经根据优选的实施例对本发明进行了具体的图示和描述,本领域的技术人员应当理解的是,在不背离本发明的精神和范围的情况下,可进行形式和细节的各种修改。

Claims (19)

1.一种食品包装,包括:
微波安全的阻隔层;
外表面,其中所述外表面的至少部分是吸水的。
2.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中所述外表面的所述部分包括粘附于所述食品包装的标签。
3.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中每28克的所述食品包装内的食品产品中,所述部分能够吸收约0.5克到1.5克的水。
4.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中每28克的所述食品包装内的食品产品中,所述部分能够吸收约1克的水。
5.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中所述外表面包括部分被聚合层覆盖的吸水层。
6.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中所述部分包括湿度指示器。
7.如权利要求1所述的包装,其中所述外表面包括纸层。
8.如权利要求2所述的包装,其进一步包括至少一个刻痕线。
9.如权利要求8所述的包装,其中所述刻痕线位于所述标签的下方。
10.如权利要求9所述的包装,其中所述标签包括微波安全的阻隔层。
11.如权利要求9所述的包装,其中所述外表面的所述吸水部分包括水。
12.一种制作食品包装的方法,所述方法包括:
提供包含外层和微波安全的阻隔层的柔性薄膜,其中所述外层的至少部分是吸水的;
将所述柔性薄膜进给到成型填充密封机;
将所述柔性薄膜形成具有底部的管;
在所述管的底部密封所述柔性薄膜,从而在得到的包装上形成底部密封;
用食品产品填充所述得到的包装;和
密封并切除所述得到的包装的顶部。
13.如权利要求12所述的方法,其中所述提供包括将吸水层施用到所述柔性薄膜上。
14.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中所述施用发生在所述进给之前。
15.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中所述施用发生在所述进给或者所述形成期间。
16.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中所述施用发生在所述密封之后。
17.如权利要求12所述的方法,其中所述食品产品至少是玉米粉圆饼片,薯片,玉米片,椒盐脆饼干,水果脆片,挤压膨化食品,蔬菜脆片和咸饼干中的一种。
18.如权利要求12所述的方法,其中所述的食品产品至少是糖果,奶糖或者饼干中的一种。
19.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述吸水部分包括水。
