技术领域
本发明涉及一种发光显示装置及其驱动方法,该发光显示装置及其驱动方法能够将各个像素的驱动开关装置之间电流驱动能力的偏差最小化,从而实现提高屏幕质量。

发光显示装置的像素包括作为恒定电流元件的驱动薄膜晶体管(TFT)。驱动TFT的电流驱动能力很大程度上受驱动TFT的阈值电压影响。
因此,存在对校正各个像素的驱动TFT之间电流驱动能力的偏差的技术的需求。
发明内容
因此,本发明涉及一种基本上消除由于现有技术的限制和缺陷而导致的一个或多个问题的发光显示装置及其驱动方法。
本发明的一个目的是提供一种发光显示装置,该发光显示装置能够将各个像素的驱动TFT之间的电流驱动能力的偏差最小化,从而实现提高屏幕质量。

具体实施方式
以下将参照附图的图示来详细描述根据本发明一实施方式的发光显示装置的驱动方法。
图1是表示根据一实施方式的发光显示装置的构造的图。
图1中图示的发光显示装置包括显示面板2、数据驱动器4、栅极驱动器6、时序控制器8和电源单元10。
显示面板2包括多条数据线DL和多条栅极线GL以及像素P,所述多条数据线DL和多条栅极线GL彼此交叉布置,所述像素P以矩阵形式布置。每一像素P都包括发光二极管(LED)、用以将驱动电流提供给所述LED的驱动薄膜晶体管(TFT)、和用以补偿所述驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率的多个TFT。
数据驱动器4包括一个或多个源极驱动集成电路(IC)(未示出)。数据驱动器4接收来自时序控制器8的数字视频数据RGB。另一方面,数据驱动器4可接收来自时序控制器8的数字视频数据RGBW。然后,数据驱动器4响应于来自时序控制器8的数据控制信号DCS,将数字视频数据RGB转换为伽马补偿电压,以产生数据电压,并且将数据电压分别提供给显示面板2的数据线DL。数据驱动器4响应于来自时序控制器8的感测控制信号SCS,经由多条数据线DL的每一通道(channel)或多条电源线(power line)的每一通道来感测对应于像素电流而放电的电压(它取决于每一像素P的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率),并且把对每一像素所感测的电压提供给时序控制器8。数据驱动器4将所感测的电压转换为数字数据以提供给时序控制器8。源极驱动IC可经由玻载芯片(Chip On Glass)(COG)工艺或带式自动接合(Tape AutomatedBonding)(TAB)工艺连接到显示面板2的数据线DL。
栅极驱动器6响应于来自时序控制器8的栅极控制信号GCS输出多个栅极信号。多个栅极信号可包括例如多个扫描脉冲和多个发光控制信号。栅极驱动器6从第一栅极线GL至最后栅极线GL按顺序输出多个栅极信号。如上所述的栅极驱动器6可以以面板内栅极(Gate-In-Panel)(GIP)方式直接形成在显示面板2的下基板上,或可以以TAB方式连接在时序控制器8与显示面板2的栅极线GL之间。
时序控制器8例如通过接口接收来自外部主计算机的数字视频数据RGB,所述接口诸如是低压差分信令(Low Voltage Differential Signaling,LVDS)接口或最小化传输差分信令(Transition Minimized Differential Signaling,TMDS)接口。时序控制器8把从主计算机输入的数字视频数据RGB传输至源极驱动IC。时序控制器8通过LVDS或TMDS接口接收电路接收例如来自主计算机的时序信号,所述时序信号诸如是垂直同步信号Vsync、水平同步信号Hsync、数据使能信号DE和点时钟信号DCLK。时序控制器8基于来自主计算机的时序信号产生时序控制信号DCS和GCS,以控制数据驱动器4和栅极驱动器6的操作时序。
时序控制器8产生感测控制信号SCS,以使用对每个像素所感测的电压经数据驱动器4来感测每一像素P中的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率。时序控制器8使用所感测的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并且将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4。由此,数据驱动器4将补偿后的视频数据RGB转换为数据电压,以将所述数据电压提供给显示面板2。
特别地,使用感测数据经由数据驱动器4和显示面板2的数据线或电源线来感测每一像素P的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率,并且将所感测的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率存储在存储器中。另一方面,时序控制器8可检测和存储基于存储器中的迁移率的增益和基于所感测的阈值电压的偏差。时序控制器8使用所存储的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率来补偿感测数据。另一方面,时序控制器8可使用所存储的偏差和增益来补偿所述感测数据。
然后,时序控制器8使用补偿后的感测数据再次感测每一像素P的驱动TFT的迁移率,并且校正驱动TFT的迁移率的误差,以存储驱动TFT的校正后的迁移率。在另一方面,时序控制器8可基于校正后的迁移率来校正增益,并且存储校正后的增益。
如果判断驱动TFT的迁移率误差被校正到预定比率或更多,则时序控制器8结束校正迁移率。时序控制器8使用阈值电压和校正后的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并且将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4。另一方面,时序控制器8使用增益和校正后的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并且将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4。用这种方式,本实施方式可有助于减少各个像素的驱动TFT之间的电流驱动能力的偏差,并且因此提高屏幕质量。
以下将详细描述根据该实施方式的发光显示装置的驱动方法。
图2是表示根据该实施方式的发光显示装置的驱动方法的流程图,图3是详细表示图2中图示的第一步骤的流程图,而图4是详细表示图2中图示的第二步骤的流程图。
参照图2的流程图,驱动方法包括第一步骤S1和第二步骤S2。
第一步骤S1包括:使用感测数据(第一感测电压)经由数据驱动器4和每条数据线DL或每条电源线来感测每一像素P的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率,并且存储所感测的每一像素的驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率。第一步骤S1可进一步包括:检测并存储基于所感测的每个像素的阈值电压的偏差和基于每个像素的迁移率的增益。
第二步骤S2包括:使用补偿后的感测数据(第二感测电压)经由数据驱动器4和每条数据线DL或每条电源线再次感测驱动TFT的迁移率,以校正驱动TFT的迁移率误差,并且存储校正后的迁移率。第二步骤S2可进一步包括:基于校正后的驱动TFT的迁移率来校正增益,并且存储校正的增益。
第三步骤S3包括:使用阈值电压和校正后的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并且提供将要显示在显示面板2上的补偿后的视频数据RGB。另一方面,第三步骤S3可包括:使用增益和校正后的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并且将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4。
如图3所示,第一步骤S1包括第一子步骤S1-1和第二子步骤S1-2。
第一子步骤S1-1包括:将与感测数据对应的第一感测电压经由每条数据线DL施加到每一像素,并且引起与所施加的第一感测电压对应的第一电压经由每一像素P的驱动TFT放电。
第二子步骤S1-2包括:通过感测经由每条数据线或每条电源线从每一像素的驱动TFT放电的第一电压的幅值和第一放电电压的放电梯度(dischargegradient)来感测和存储驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率。
第二子步骤S1-2可进一步包括:检测和存储基于所感测的每一像素的阈值电压的偏差和基于每个像素的迁移率的增益。
如图4所示,第二步骤S2包括第一子步骤S2-1和第二子步骤S2-2。

步骤D包括:计算该参考迁移率与步骤A中所感测的每一像素的驱动TFT的迁移率之间的偏差率。在步骤D中,偏差率如公式1所表示的来计算。参照公式1,偏差率是参考迁移率与参考迁移率和所测量的迁移率之间差的比值。

步骤E包括:通过偏差率来校正之前步骤S1-2中所存储的驱动TFT的迁移率以使第一子步骤S2-1能够实施,存储校正后的迁移率并且返回到第一子步骤S2-1。步骤E可进一步包括:使用校正后的迁移率来校正增益,并且存储校正后的增益。在步骤E中,如公式2所表示的来校正驱动TFT的迁移率。参照公式2,驱动TFT的迁移率被校正为通过将驱动TFT的迁移率与偏差率相乘以获得校正值并将校正值与驱动TFT的迁移率相加而获得的值。

校正后的迁移率=迁移率+迁移率X偏差率
第三步骤S3是使用之前步骤S1-2中所存储的阈值电压和之前步骤S2-2中所校正的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB并且将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4的步骤。另一方面,第三步骤S3可包括:使用增益和校正后的迁移率来补偿视频数据RGB,并将补偿后的视频数据RGB提供给数据驱动器4。
如从以上的描述可清楚看出的那样,在本实施方式中,感测驱动TFT的阈值电压和迁移率,并且再次感测驱动TFT的迁移率以校正驱动TFT的迁移率的误差。如果判断驱动TFT的迁移率误差被校正为预定比率或更多,则视频数据基于驱动TFT的阈值电压和校正后的迁移率而得到补偿,以提供给显示面板。于是,本实施方式可将各个像素的驱动TFT之间的电流驱动能力的偏差最小化,并且实现提高屏幕质量。
在不脱离本发明精神或范围的情况下,对本发明可进行各种修改和变型对本领域的技术人员来说是显而易见的。因此,本发明旨在涵盖落入所附权利要求书的范围内的对本发明的各种修改和变型及其等同物。
Claims (8)
1.一种驱动发光显示装置的方法,所述方法包括以下步骤:
使用第一感测电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线来感测每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率;
通过使用第二电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线再次感测所述每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率来校正驱动薄膜晶体管之间的迁移率的误差;和
使用所述阈值电压和校正后的迁移率来补偿将要显示在显示面板上的视频数据。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述感测每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率包括以下步骤:
将所述第一感测电压施加到所述每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管,并且引起与所施加的第一感测电压对应的第一电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线从所述每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管放电;和
通过感测放电后的第一电压的幅值和所述放电后的第一电压的放电梯度来感测并存储所述驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中所述校正驱动薄膜晶体管之间的迁移率的误差包括以下步骤:
施加第二感测电压,并且引起与所施加的第二感测电压对应的第二电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线从所述每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管放电,其中所述第二感测电压是被所存储的阈值电压和迁移率补偿的第一感测电压;
通过感测放电后的第二电压的放电梯度来再次感测所述驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率;和
使用再次感测的迁移率来校正所存储的迁移率的误差。
4.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其中所述校正所存储的迁移率的误差包括以下步骤:
测量所述驱动薄膜晶体管的所述再次感测的迁移率的均匀度,并且如果所测量的均匀度大于预设参考值则转到补偿将要显示在显示面板上的视频数据的步骤;
如果所测量的均匀度小于或等于所述参考值,则设定在多个再次感测的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率中的参考迁移率;
计算再次感测的迁移率与所述参考迁移率之间的偏差率;
通过所述偏差率校正所存储的所述驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率;和
存储校正后的迁移率。
5.一种发光显示装置,所述发光显示装置包括:
显示面板,所述显示面板包括像素,所述像素每一个都与数据线和电源线连接,并且所述像素每一个都包括驱动薄膜晶体管;
数据驱动器,所述数据驱动器经由所述数据线将感测电压提供给每一像素,并且通过使用第一电压经由所述数据线或所述电源线来感测与像素电流对应的电压,所述对应的电压取决于所述驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率;和
时序控制器,所述时序控制器使用来自所述数据驱动器的所感测的电压来感测所述驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率,并且经由所述数据驱动器和每条数据线或每条电源线来再次感测每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率,以校正驱动薄膜晶体管之间的迁移率的误差,并且使用所述阈值电压和校正后的迁移率来补偿将要显示在所述显示面板上的视频数据。
6.根据权利要求5所述的装置,其中所述数据驱动器经由所述数据线把与来自所述时序控制器的感测数据对应的第一感测电压提供给所述像素;引起与所述第一感测电压对应的第一电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线从所述像素的驱动薄膜晶体管放电;并且感测放电后的第一电压;和
其中所述时序控制器通过感测放电后的第一电压的幅值和放电后的第一电压的放电梯度来感测并存储所述驱动薄膜晶体管的阈值电压和迁移率。
7.根据权利要求6所述的装置,其中所述数据驱动器将第二感测电压经由所述数据线提供给每一像素;引起与所施加的第二感测电压对应的第二电压经由每条数据线或每条电源线从所述每一像素的驱动薄膜晶体管放电;并且感测放电后的第二电压,其中所述第二感测电压是与被所存储的阈值电压和迁移率补偿的感测数据对应的电压;和
其中所述时序控制器通过感测放电后的第二电压的梯度来再次感测所述驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率,以使用再次感测的迁移率来校正所存储的迁移率的误差,并且存储校正后的迁移率。
8.根据权利要求7所述的装置,其中所述时序控制器测量再次感测的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率的均匀度,如果所测量的均匀度大于预设参考值则结束校正所述迁移率,如果所测量的均匀度小于或等于所述参考值,则设定在多个再次感测的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率中的参考迁移率,计算再次感测的迁移率与所述参考迁移率之间的偏差率;通过所述偏差率来校正所存储的驱动薄膜晶体管的迁移率;并且存储校正后的迁移率。
