仍参照图2,对于本实施例的基于含氟聚合物的层10而言,该层是疏水的且透空气和透水蒸气的。这些特征示意性地示于图2中。在一种实施例中,该含氟聚合物是膨胀的微孔聚四氟乙烯,也称作ePTFE。该含氟聚合物具有多个微孔开口,提供足够小以防止水滴通过且足够大以允许空气和蒸气通过的孔。孔尺寸直接影响该基于含氟聚合物的层的渗透性和强度。随着孔尺寸增大,该基于含氟聚合物的层变得更可透气,允许水蒸气和空气更容易地通过。然而,较大的孔尺寸导致较弱的含氟聚合物强度,且可能导致该基于含氟聚合物的层更容易撕裂和分解。类似地,较小的孔尺寸导致透蒸气性和透空气性降低,但会导致更坚固的层。因此,优化的孔尺寸可以提供坚固和透气的基于含氟聚合物的层的平衡。
水蒸气传递速率,也称作MVTR,是以克/平方米/天计的对通过膜件(membrane)的水蒸气(water vapor)的度量。透空气率,以立方英尺/分钟计,测量空气通过样品所花的时间。高的MVTR和透空气率导致好的舒适水平,因为汗和体热通过该膜并快速从身体上除去。
本实施例中的基于含氟聚合物的层10可以包括多种不同的ePTFE质量,其重量范围为0.5盎司/平方码~0.65盎司/平方码,厚度范围为0.0017”~0.003”。因此,这种成分材料的使用有助于提供轻重量且薄的双组分片材14,并有助于实现好的舒适水平。下表1列出了多种含氟聚合物层或膜件,其可以与其相关性质一起使用。表1

如同所述的,该片材14是双组分的且包含两层10和12。这示意性地示于图2中。然而,也应当认识到图2中所示的实施例呈现了两层10和12交叠的概念。这种交叠用于表示两个成分层的搀合或者相互迁移等以提供结合。这种搀合、相互迁移等提供了可能有助于提供一些改进的性质的区域16。所述改进的性质的一种实例是尽管在该片材上存在否则会使第一层10丧失其抗水滴渗透性的化学物质,仍保持该片材14的全面抗水滴渗透性(即防水性)的性质。这种保持全面的抗水滴渗透性(即防水性)是由该片材14内的搀合、相互迁移等的区域16提供的。
应当认识到该区域16也防止第一和第二层10和12的分层。这种对分层的防止因此是该片材14的耐久性。在一种实施例中,将该片材14的样品在淡水中于30℃洗涤200小时没有分层。
图3示意性地示出了制备双组分片材14的一种示例性方法。在所示的实施例中,元件20(例如加热辊)对两种成分材料层10和12施加热和压力。在这种操作过程中,材料层10和12会从左向右运动。特别地,随着每一部分运动通过该元件20,该元件20对所述部分提供热和压力。应当认识到可以使用其他方法。
下表2包括了包括与各种非含氟聚合物材料层结合的各种含氟聚合物材料层的多个双组分材料样品。样品ID包括与微孔热塑性塑料结合的、来自上表1的含氟聚合物。列出了各组合的不同性质。表2

再次回到图3,在一种该特别实施例中,可以将该基于含氟聚合物的层10和热塑性弹性体层12通过热层压彼此附着。在热层压过程中,对该双组分片材14施加高温高压以在两层之间形成结合。随着热塑性弹性体流入含氟聚合物的孔中,所述升高的温度和压力使每层表面部分液化并锁定于相应表面中。两层之间的结合强度以及由此的粘着强度随每层的表面积按比例升高。因此,粗糙表面具有较高的表面积和形成更强结合的能力。通过比较第一和第二表的MVTR和透空气率结果证实,双组分片材14的热层压可能造成透水蒸气率(MVTR)和透空气率的略微降低。在热层压所述层时,在温度和压力之间具有优化的平衡是重要的。过高的温度和压力可能造成热塑性弹性体表面的过度液化,导致含氟聚合物孔的堵塞和透蒸气性和透空气性的显著降低。过低的温度和压力将导致两层之间较弱的结合。因此,温度和压力之间的平衡是有利的。
热层压使该含氟聚合物和热塑性弹性体层相结合,形成抗化学物质的区域16。该抗化学物质的区域16是包括所述两层之间的结合的区域。该区域16设计用于降低可能对使用者有害和可能损害该双组分片材14的常见化学污染物的通过。化学物质的存在可能通过降低强度和损害透蒸气性和透空气性特征使该双组分片材14劣化。一种能够造成第一层10的材料的抗水性劣化的化学物质实例是N,N-二乙基-间-甲苯甲酰胺,也称作DEET。其他能造成劣化的化学物质实例包括燃料和溶剂中存在的化学物质。仍进一步,也预期了其他化学污染物,例如酸。这种化学物质有时由于其使所需材料性质劣化的倾向也称作对抗试剂(challenge agent)。当然,所述具体的化学物质并不是对本发明的限制。所述化学物质如果存在于该片材12上否则将会使该第一层10的微孔材料允许水滴通过,但本发明防止了这种不希望现象(即耐水性损失)的发生,因此提供了对所述化学物质的抗性。
DEET是驱虫剂中常用的活性组分。由于该双组分片材14可以用于户外应用,例如用于手套、靴子、帐篷等中,因此该片材14对驱虫剂中使用的化学物质(例如DEET)所引起的防水性质劣化具有抗性是有利的。这种对劣化的抗性使该片材14在尽管存在该化学物质的情况下仍保持其防水性、透蒸气性和透空气性特征。该双组分片材14甚至在DEET暴露很多小时(例如表2中所示的16小时)之后仍能够保持数值。与此相比,单独基于含氟聚合物的层在DEET暴露16小时之后就具有较低的数值,如第一表中所示。
该最终的双组分片材14可以具有小于100微米或0.1毫米的厚度。这种低厚度和轻重量一起提高了该双组分片材14的舒适水平。该片材14也可以在两面上都与其他织物层相组合,以用于外衣(例如手套、靴子、帐篷等)的构造中。
该双组分材料的应用实例包括但不局限于手套、帽子、外套、夹克、衬衫、裤子、内衣、鞋子、靴子、保护服、多种其他衣服制品、背包、睡袋、帐篷、多种其他户外装备等。对于包括个人穿着的物件的应用而言,必须认识到随着个人出汗,在皮肤上会产生水蒸气和液体汗。高MVTR和透空气率可以使该水蒸气和液体汗快速通过该双组分材料。同样地,该双组分片材相当适用于上述涉及个人穿着的物件的应用实例。当然,本发明并不限定于这些应用,其他应用也是预期的。

Claims (10)

1.防水的、透蒸气的且透气的片材(14),包括:
防水微孔层(10);
附着于该微孔层(10)的热塑性层(12),该热塑性层(12)是透蒸气且透空气的;和
该微孔层(10)至少部分与该热塑性层(12)整合以形成如下区域(16):所述区域当在该片材(14)上存在化学物质时防止水滴通过而允许水蒸气和空气通过,否则所述化学物质会造成该微孔层(10)允许水滴通过。
2.权利要求1的片材(14),其中该微孔层(10)是膨胀的聚四氟乙烯。
3.权利要求1的片材(14),其中该热塑性层(12)是聚氨酯。
4.权利要求1的片材(14),其中该厚度小于0.1mm。
5.权利要求1的片材(14),其中通过热层压将该微孔层(10)至少部分与该热塑性层(12)整合。
6.权利要求1的片材(14),其中该区域(16)抑制该微孔层(10)和该热塑性层(12)的分离。
7.构造防水的、透蒸气的且透气的片材(14)的方法,包括以下步骤:
提供防水的、微孔的第一层(10);
提供热塑性的第二层(12);和
将该第一层(10)和第二层(12)至少部分整合,以形成如下区域(16):所述区域当在该片材(14)上存在化学物质时防止水滴通过而允许水蒸气和空气通过,否则所述化学物质会造成该微孔层(10)允许水滴通过。
8.权利要求7的方法,其中该第一层(10)包括膨胀的聚四氟乙烯。
9.权利要求7的方法,其中该热塑性物是基于聚醚的共聚物。
10.权利要求7的方法,其中该片材(14)的厚度小于0.1mm。
