Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种有机发光显示器和一种驱动所述有机发光显示器的方法。
背景技术
近年来,已经开发了与阴极射线管显示器相比具有减小的重量和体积的各种平板显示器。这些平板显示器包括液晶显示器(LCD)、场发射显示器(FED)、等离子体显示面板(PDP)、有机发光显示器等。
在各种平板显示器中,有机发光显示器通过利用有机发光二极管来显示图像,其中,有机发光二极管通过电子和空穴的复合而发光。有机发光显示器具有快的响应时间和低的功耗。
然而,在传统的有机发光显示器中,提供到数据驱动器的参考电源(Vref)和在电源单元中产生的第一电源(ELVDD)是通过分离的电源提供的。当通过单独的电源提供参考电源(Vref)和第一电源(ELVDD)时,由于电压纹波而难以在存储电容器(Cst)中充入期望的电压。
更具体地讲,在电源单元中产生的第一电源(ELVDD)和由参考电源(Vref)产生的数据信号示出了电压反复增加和降低的纹波。因此,在当特定的像素中的数据信号的电压增加并且第一电源(ELVDD)的电压降低时的时刻,在存储电容器(Cst)中会充入电能。此外,在当其它的像素中的数据信号的电压降低并且第一电源(ELVDD)的电压增加时的时刻,在存储电容器(Cst)中会充入电能。因此,虽然将相同的数据信号提供到像素,但是由像素产生的光会具有不同的亮度。
此外,当第一电源(ELVDD)或参考电源(Vref)经受来自外部环境的噪声时,难以显示期望的图像,这是因为噪声直接影响显示的图像的亮度。
发明内容
根据本发明示例性实施例的一方面提供一种具有改善的图像质量的有机发光显示器。
此外,根据本发明示例性实施例的另一方面提供一种用于驱动有机发光显示器的方法。
本发明的实施例提供一种有机发光显示器,所述有机发光显示器包括:数据驱动器,用于将数据信号提供到数据线;扫描驱动器,用于将扫描信号提供到扫描线;像素,位于数据线和扫描线之间的交叉区域处;电源单元,用于提供第一电源;第一分压器,用于对第一电源进行分压,从而产生第一参考电源;第二分压器,用于对来自外部电源的电源进行分压,从而产生第二参考电源;开关,用于将第一参考电源和第二参考电源中的一个传输到数据驱动器。

所述用于驱动有机发光显示器的方法还可以包括:当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时将第二参考电源传输到数据驱动器。
根据本发明实施例的有机发光显示器及其驱动方法可以在没有由电压纹波引起的任何影响的情况下显示具有期望亮度的图像,这是因为参考电源是利用第一电源产生的。此外,根据本发明实施例的有机发光显示器及其驱动方法可以防止由提供到第一电源的噪声引起的图像质量的劣化,这是因为参考电源也受噪声的影响。

下文中,将参照附图描述根据本发明的特定示例性实施例。这里,当第一元件被描述为结合到第二元件时,所述第一元件可以直接结合到所述第二元件,或可以经第三元件间接地结合到第二元件。此外,为了清晰起见,省略了对本发明的完整理解不必要的一些元件。此外,相同的标号始终表示相同的元件。
图1是示意性示出传统的有机发光显示器中的像素的示意图。
参照图1,传统的有机发光显示器的像素4包括有机发光二极管(OLED)和结合到数据线(Dm)和扫描线(Sn)以控制OLED的像素电路2。
OLED的阳电极结合到像素电路2,OLED的阴电极结合到第二电源(ELVSS)。OLED产生具有与从像素电路2提供的电流对应的亮度(例如,预定的亮度)的光。
当将扫描信号提供到扫描线(Sn)时,像素电路2与从数据线(Dm)提供的数据信号对应地控制提供到OLED的电流的量。在图1中,像素电路2包括第二晶体管(M2)、第一晶体管(M1)和存储电容器(Cst)。这里,第二晶体管(M2)结合在第一电源(ELVDD)和OLED之间。第一晶体管(M1)结合在第二晶体管(M2)和数据线(Dm)以及扫描线(Sn)之间。此外,存储电容器(Cst)结合在第二晶体管(M2)的栅电极和第一电极之间。

第二晶体管(M2)的栅电极结合到存储电容器(Cst)的一端,第二晶体管(M2)的第一电极结合到存储电容器(Cst)的另一端和第一电源(ELVDD)。第二晶体管(M2)的第二电极结合到OLED的阳电极。第二晶体管(M2)与存储在存储电容器(Cst)中的电压值对应地控制电流的量,所述电流从第一电源(ELVDD)经OLED流到第二电源(ELVSS)。这里,OLED产生与从第二晶体管(M2)提供的电流的量对应的光。
第一电源(ELVDD)从电源单元10产生,并被提供到像素4。例如,电源单元10可以包括DC/DC转换器。
数据驱动器12产生数据信号,并将产生的数据信号提供到数据线(Dm)。这里,数据驱动器12利用从分压器14提供的参考电源(Vref)来产生各种电压电平(例如,大量的电压电平)的伽玛电压,并将伽玛电压的各种电压电平中的一个作为数据信号提供到数据线(Dm)。
分压器14包括电阻器,并对外部电源的电源(例如,从电池提供的电源)进行分压,从而产生参考电源(Vref)。
在电源单元10中产生的第一电源(ELVDD)和由参考电源(Vref)产生的数据信号均具有电压反复地增加和降低的电压纹波,如图2中所示。因此,当将相同的数据信号提供到像素时,由像素产生的光会具有不同的亮度。
图3是示出根据本发明示例性实施例的有机发光显示器的框图。
参照图3,根据本发明示例性实施例的有机发光显示器包括显示单元30、扫描驱动器60、数据驱动器20和时序控制器50。这里,显示单元30包括结合到扫描线(S1至Sn)和数据线(D1至Dm)的多个像素40。扫描驱动器60驱动扫描线(S1至Sn),数据驱动器20驱动数据线(D1至Dm)。此外,时序控制器50控制扫描驱动器60和数据驱动器20。
此外,根据本发明示例性实施例的有机发光显示器包括电源单元100、第一分压器112、第二分压器114、开关118和控制器116。这里,电源单元100产生第一电源(ELVDD),第一分压器112利用第一电源(ELVDD)产生第一参考电源(Vref1)。第二分压器114利用外部电源产生第二参考电源(Vref2)。此外,开关118将分别在第一分压器112和第二分压器114中产生的第一参考电源(Vref1)和第二参考电源(Vref2)中的一个作为参考电源(Vref)提供到数据驱动器20。控制器116控制开关118。
显示单元30接收从电源单元10提供的第一电源(ELVDD)和从显示单元30的外部提供的第二电源(ELVSS),并将这些电源传输到像素40。当将扫描信号提供到接收第一电源(ELVDD)和第二电源(ELVSS)的像素40时,所述像素40被选择,从而发射具有与数据信号对应的亮度的光。

返回参照图3,扫描驱动器60将扫描信号顺序提供到扫描线(S1至Sn)。当将扫描信号顺序提供到扫描线(S1至Sn)时,由线顺序选择像素40。
数据驱动器20从开关118接收参考电源(Vref),并将参考电源(Vref)分为多个(例如,大量的)电压电平,从而产生多个(例如,大量的)伽玛电压。在一些实施例中,伽玛产生单元(未示出)可以被额外地包括在数据驱动器20内。数据驱动器20利用参考电源(Vref)产生多个伽玛电压。根据从时序控制器50提供的数据(Data)的位,在每个信道中,数据驱动器20从多个伽玛电压中选择一个伽玛电压以产生数据信号。每当扫描信号被提供到像素40时,数据驱动器20将数据信号提供到数据线(D1至Dm)。然后,数据信号被提供到由扫描信号选择的像素40。
时序控制器50与从外部提供的同步信号对应地产生数据驱动控制信号(DCS)和扫描驱动控制信号(SCS)。在时序控制器50中产生的数据驱动控制信号(DCS)被提供到数据驱动器20,扫描驱动控制信号(SCS)被提供到扫描驱动器60。时序控制器50将外部提供的数据(Data)重新排列,并将数据(Data)提供到数据驱动器20。
电源单元100产生第一电源(ELVDD),并将产生的第一电源(ELVDD)提供到显示单元30和第一分压器112。例如,电源单元100包括DC/DC转换器。
第一分压器112对第一电源(ELVDD)的电压进行分压,从而产生第一参考电源(Vref1)。这里,第一分压器112包括第一电阻器(R1)和第二电阻器(R2),第一电阻器(R1)和第二电阻器(R2)均被设置在第一电源(ELVDD)和地(GND)(例如,接地电源)之间。

当将电源输入到有机发光显示器中时,在根据预先确定的顺序顺序提供电源的同时执行重置操作。这里,在电源单元100中产生正常的第一电源(ELVDD)需要一定时间段的时间。因此,控制器116导通第二开关(SW2),从而将第二参考电源(Vref2)提供到数据驱动器20,直到在电源单元100中产生正常电压的第一电源(ELVDD)。
此外,当在电源被输入到有机发光显示器中的初始时间段期间不稳定的第一参考电源(Vref1)被提供到数据驱动器20时,不必要的图像会被不期望地显示在显示单元30上。因此,通过在电源被输入到有机发光显示器的初始时间段期间将第二参考电源(Vref2)提供到数据驱动器20,可以防止不必要的图像被显示在显示单元30上。
此外,当在电源单元100中产生正常电压的第一电源(ELVDD)时,即,当图像被显示在显示单元30上时,控制器116导通第一开关(SW1),从而将第一参考电源(Vref1)提供到数据驱动器20。
此外,即使当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时,控制器116关断第一开关(SW1)而导通第二开关(SW2)。然后,当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时,第二参考电源(Vref2)被提供到数据驱动器20,因此当有机发光显示器截止时,可以在没有诸如闪烁的任何误差现象的情况下表现黑色。
下面,详细描述所述有机发光显示器的操作。首先,在电源被输入到有机发光显示器中的初始时间段期间导通第二开关(SW2),从而将第二参考电源(Vref2)提供到数据驱动器20。
在初始时间段之后,导通第一开关(SW1),从而将第一参考电源(Vref1)提供到数据驱动器20。接收第一参考电源(Vref1)的数据驱动器20利用第一参考电源(Vref1)产生多个(例如,大量的)伽玛电压、在每个信道中选择伽玛电压中的一个作为数据信号并将选择的伽玛电压提供到数据线(D1至Dm)。然后,在显示单元30上显示与数据信号对应的图像。
第一参考电源(Vref1)出现电压纹波(即,电压增加和降低)的时间点与第一电源(ELVDD)出现电压纹波的时间点相同,这是因为第一参考电源(Vref1)是从第一电源(ELVDD)产生的。因此,从第一参考电源(Vref1)产生的数据信号出现电压纹波的时刻与第一电源(ELVDD)出现电压纹波的时刻相同。因此,充有与第一电源(ELVDD)和数据信号之间的电压差对应的电压的存储电容器(Cst)可以稳定地充有期望的电压。
此外,当外部噪声被输入到第一电源(ELVDD)时,相同的噪声被输入到第一参考电源(Vref1)。因此,外部噪声相同程度地改变第一电源(ELVDD)和第一参考电源(Vref1),因此可以防止或减小由于噪声引起的图像质量的劣化。
虽然已经参照特定的示例性实施例描述了本发明,但是应该理解的是,本发明不限于公开的实施例,而是相反,本发明意在覆盖包括在权利要求及其等同物内的各种修改和等价布置。
Claims (11)
1、一种有机发光显示器,包括:
数据驱动器,用于将数据信号提供到数据线;
扫描驱动器,用于将扫描信号提供到扫描线;
像素,位于数据线和扫描线之间的交叉区域处;
电源单元,用于提供第一电源;
第一分压器,用于对第一电源进行分压,从而产生第一参考电源;
第二分压器,用于对来自外部电源的电源进行分压,从而产生第二参考电源;
开关,用于将第一参考电源和第二参考电源中的一个传输到数据驱动器,
其中,每个像素包括有机发光二极管,在电流从第一电源经有机发光二极管流到第二电源的同时,有机发光二极管产生光。
2、如权利要求1所述的有机发光显示器,其中,开关包括:
第一开关,位于数据驱动器和第一分压器之间;
第二开关,位于数据驱动器和第二分压器之间。
3、如权利要求2所述的有机发光显示器,其中,第二开关被构造为在来自外部电源的电源被输入到有机发光显示器的初始时间段期间导通,第一开关被构造为在像素产生光的时间段期间导通。
4、如权利要求3所述的有机发光显示器,还包括控制器,控制器用于控制第一开关和第二开关的导通和关断。
5、如权利要求2所述的有机发光显示器,其中,第二开关被构造为当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时导通,第一开关被构造为当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时关断。
6、如权利要求5所述的有机发光显示器,还包括控制器,控制器用于控制第一开关和第二开关的导通和关断。
7、如权利要求1所述的有机发光显示器,其中,数据驱动器被构造为接收来自第一参考电源和第二参考电源中的一个的电压,并对接收的电压进行分压,从而产生多个伽玛电压。
8、如权利要求1所述的有机发光显示器,其中,第一参考电源和第二参考电源具有相同的电压值。
9、一种用于驱动有机发光显示器的方法,所述有机发光显示器包括像素,像素用于在电流从第一电源经包括在每个像素中的有机发光二极管流到第二电源的同时显示图像,所述方法包括:
在来自外部电源的电源被输入到有机发光显示器的初始时间段期间将第二参考电源传输到数据驱动器,第二参考电源是通过对来自外部电源的电源进行分压而产生的;
在像素显示图像的时间段期间将第一参考电源传输到数据驱动器,第一参考电源是通过对第一电源进行分压而产生的;
利用第一参考电源在数据驱动器中产生多个伽玛电压、选择多个伽玛电压中的伽玛电压作为数据信号并将选择的伽玛电压提供到像素;
通过像素显示图像,图像与数据信号对应。
10、如权利要求9所述的用于驱动有机发光显示器的方法,还包括:当结合到有机发光显示器的电源被切断时将第二参考电源传输到数据驱动器。
11、如权利要求9所述的用于驱动有机发光显示器的方法,其中,第一参考电源和第二参考电源具有相同的电压值。
