技术领域
本发明涉及驱动显示屏的设备和方法,尤其涉及用具有高压、高频的电能在短时间内通过重复放电来显示图像的驱动显示屏的设备和方法。
背景技术
等离子体显示屏(PDP)能很容易制造成大尺寸,因而广泛地被用来作为平板显示器。PDP用一种放电现象来显示图像,通常,根据它们驱动信号的类型,PDP可分为直流PDP和交流PDP。由于直流PDP中的长放电延时所带来的不便,交流PDP得到了更积极的发展。
交流PDP的一个典型例子是一种三电极的表面放电的交流PDP,它是PDP通过三个电极提供的交流电压来驱动的。三电极表面放电的交流PDP含有多个堆积式承载板。三电极表面放电的交流PDP在空间利用率上优于阴极射线管(CRT),因为它比CRT更薄、更轻,而且提供了比CRT更宽的屏幕。
三电极表面放电的PDP和驱动这种PDP的设备和方法已经在美国6,744,218由本申请人申请的、题为“Method of driving a plasma display panel in which thewidth of display sustain pulse varies”一文中公开,其内容在此引述供参考。
PDP含有多个显示单元,这些显示单元安置在维持电极和寻址电极相互交叉的邻近区域里。多个显示单元中的每一个都包含三种放电单元(红色、绿色和蓝色),并且图像的显示等级是通过控制放电单元的放电状态来获取的。
应用于PDP的帧分成8个子域,每个子域中都有不同的发光量,并被用来显示PDP的256个等级。更确切的说,与1/60秒对应的帧周期(16.67ms)包括8个子域,将图像显示为256个等级。8个子域中的每一个子域都含有复位周期、寻址周期和维持放电周期来驱动PDP。
随着PDP单位亮度的增加,放电维持电压也升高,并且频率也增加而提升了PDP的亮度。具有高压、高频成分的电压被施加于电极线线中的每个电极以驱动PDP。为此,开关必须由开关元件来制成。
控制两个开关元件,把电源提供给每一条电极线,经由电极线把两级电源提供给板上电容器(panel capacitor)。单一的信号根据驱动PDP的方法在指定的周期中施加给所有的Y电极线。连接到所有Y电极线的开关元件在指定的周期里能够同时闭合和关断。
这样,当所有Y电极线突变时,会引起电磁干扰(EMI)的辐射。
发明内容
本发明提供了一种驱动显示屏的设备和方法,该显示屏将其上施加有单个信号的电极线分为至少两组,区分每一组中施加单个信号的时序,并减小由于电流突变而引起的电磁干扰(EMI)辐射。
一个实施例是一种设备,该设备配置成通过将多个电压中的至少一个电压施加于多个电极中的每个电极来驱动显示屏。该设备包括多个第一控制开关,用来控制第一电源和电极中每一电极之间的连接;以及多个第二控制开关,用来控制每一电极和第二电源之间的连接。把该设备配置成提供开启多个第一控制开关和关断多个第二控制开关的信号,以切换大体上所有的电极,这些电极分为至少两组,依照该至少两组电极区分开启第一控制开关的时刻,并依照该至少两组电极区分关断第二控制开关的时刻。
又一种实施例是用于驱动显示屏的设备,其中,大体在X电极和Y电极与寻址电极交叉的区域内形成放电单元,并且该设备用来将多个电压施加于Y电极中的每一电极来驱动显示屏。该设备包括多个第一控制开关,用来控制第一电源和每一Y电极之间的连接;多个第二控制开关,用来控制每一Y电极和第二电源之间的连接。该设备被配置成提供开启多个第一控制开关和关断多个第二控制开关的信号,以切换大体上所有的Y电极。这些Y电极分成至少两组,依照该至少两组区分开启第一控制开关的时刻,并依照该至少两组区分关断第二控制开关的时刻。
又一种实施例是一种驱动显示屏的方法,所述显示屏包括多个电极、多个用来控制第一电源和每一电极之间的连接的第一控制开关,、以及多个用来控制每一电极和第二电源之间的连接的第二控制开关。该方法包含:将多个电压中的至少一个电压施加于多个电极中的每一个电极,这些电极分为至少两组,这里,把开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号施加于大体上所有的电极,并依照这些组区分开启第一控制开关的时刻,依照这些组区分关断第二控制开关的时刻。

参照图1,3-D表面放电型PDP1包括:第一玻璃衬底10和第二玻璃衬底13。寻址电极AR1...,ARm、第一和第二介电层11和15、Y电极Y1,...,Yn、X电极X1,...,Xn、磷光体层16、栅栏条17和保护层12(如氧化镁(MgO)层)均布放在第一玻璃衬底10和第二玻璃衬底13之间。

参照图2,该设备包含图像处理器10、逻辑控制器12、寻址驱动器16、X驱动器18和Y驱动器14。图像处理器10将外部的模拟图像信号转换成数字信号,并产生内部的图像信号。该内部图像信号包括红色(R)、绿色(G)和蓝色(B)的图像数据、时钟信号以及每个都具有8位的垂直和水平同步信号。
寻址驱动器16接收来自逻辑控制器12的寻址信号SA,并将显示数据信号施加于寻址电极。X驱动器18接收来自逻辑控制器12的X驱动器控制信号SX,并将该控制信号SX施加于X电极。Y驱动器14接收来自逻辑控制器12的Y驱动器控制信号SY,并将该控制信号SY施加于Y电极。
图3是如图2所述的驱动3-D表面放电型PDP的设备的Y驱动器的电路图。图3中的一个或者多个电路用来驱动PDP中的Y电极。在单个电路驱动不止一个Y电极的实施例中,用开关网络将Y电极信号多路复用至正确的Y电极。
参照图3,该设备包括维持脉冲提供电路610、第一开关单元605、第二开关单元617、第三电压提供单元607、第四电压提供单元609、扫描开关单元601、第五电压提供单元603、第六电压提供单元615和电能恢复电路620。
维持脉冲提供电路610包括输出第一电压VS至第一节点N1以向Y电极输出驱动信号的第一电压提供单元611(即,平板电容CP的第二端)和输出接地电压Vg至第一节点N1的接地电压提供单元612。
第一开关单元605包括一端连接至第一节点N1而另一端连接至第二节点N2的第7开关元件S7。第二开关单元617包括一端连接至第二节点N2而另一端连接至第三节点N3的第15开关元件S15。
第三电压提供单元607连接在第一节点N1和第二节点N2之间,并把信号电压从第一电压Vs提升到第三电压Vset,并将提升后的信号电压输出至第二节点N2。第四电压提供单元609连接至第三节点N3,并将位于第三节点N3的电压转换成第四电压Vnf。扫描开关单元601包括相互串接的第一、第二扫描开关元件SC1和SC2,以及位于第一、第二扫描开关元件SC1和SC2之间并连接至Y电极(即,平板电容CP的第二端)的第四节点N4。Y电极分为多个小决。扫描开关单元601可含有多个扫描IC,从而多个扫描IC中的每一个都能连接至多个小块中的每一块。
第五电压提供单元603含有第五电压(Vsch)源,并连接到第一扫描开关元件SC1而输出第五电压Vsch至第一扫描开关元件SC1。第六电压提供单元615连接至第三节点N3,而第二扫描开关元件SC2连接至输出电压Vscl。
电能恢复电路620向平板电容Cp充以电荷,或者从平板电容Cp恢复和储存电荷。
第一电压提供单元611包括一端连接至第一电压源(Vs)而另一端连接至第一节点N1的第八开关元件S8。接地电压提供单元612包括一个第九开关元件S9,该第九开关元件S9的一端连接至二极管D60,另一端连接至第一节点N1,而二极管D60与地(Vg)相连。维持脉冲提供单元610交替地闭合第八开关元件S8和第九开关元件S9以产生维持脉冲。
第八开关元件S8和第九开关元件S9可以是场效应晶体管(FET),每个场效应管有一个漏极、一个栅极和一个源极。第八开关元件的漏极可以连接至电源Vs,其栅极可以连接至驱动器(未示出),其源极可以连接至第一节点N1。
第三电压提供单元607含有一端连接至第一节点N1而另一端连接至第三电压源Vset的第四电容C4,以及连接在第三电压源Vset和第二节点N2之间的第10开关元件S10。
在一个驱动周期中,第一开关单元605的第七开关元件S7被关断,第二开关单元617的第15开关元件S15被闭合,第一电压提供单元611的第8开关元件S8和第三电压提供单元607的第10开关元件S10被闭合。因此,第三电压Vset使第三节点N3的电压逐渐从第五电压Vsch增加,这样通过第四节点N4而输出最高电压(Vset+Vsch)至Y电极。
第四电压提供单元609含有一端连接至第三节点N3而另一端连接至第四电压源Vnf的第11开关元件S11。在一个驱动周期中,第一电压提供单元611的第8开关元件S8、第一开关单元605的第7开关元件S7、第二开关单元617的第15开关元件S15和第四电压提供单元609的第11开关元件S11被闭合。因此,从第一电压Vs逐渐地降低到第四电压Vnf,并将逐渐降低后的电压输出至第三节点N3。
当在Y电极中的扫描开关单元601的第一扫描开关元件SC1被闭合,而第二扫描开关元件SC2被关断时,扫描IC601不提供第五电压Vsch。在Y电极中扫描IC601中的电流突变时将引起电磁干扰(EMI)的辐射增加。
因此,Y电极分为至少两组,区分开启第一扫描开关元件SC1的时刻和关断第二扫描开关单元SC2的时刻,从而降低因电流突变而产生的电磁干扰的辐射。
第六电压提供单元615含有连接在第三节点N3和第六电压源Vscl之间的第12开关元件S12。闭合第12开关元件S12,以输出第六电压Vscl至第三节点N3。
当扫描开关单元601的第一扫描开关元件SC1被闭合而第二扫描开关元件SC2被关断时,第五电压Vsch通过第四节点N4输出至Y电极(平板电容Cp的第二端)。反之,当第一扫描开关元件SC1被关断而第二扫描开关元件SC2被闭合时,输出至第三节点N3的电压(即,第一电压Vs、接地电压Vg、第四电压Vnf和第六电压Vscl)通过第四节点N4输出至Y电极(平板电容Cp的第二端)。
电能恢复电路620包括电能存储单元621、电能恢复开关单元622和电感L2。电能存储单元621从平板电容Cp恢复电荷并向平板电容Cp充以电荷。电能恢复开关单元622被连接至电能存储单元621,通过电能存储单元621来控制对平板电容Cp的充电,并通过电能存储单元621从平板电容Cp来恢复电荷。电感L2的一端连接至电能恢复开关单元622,另一端连接至第一节点N1。
电能存储单元621可以包含用于存储自平板电容Cp恢复的电荷的第五电容C5。电能恢复开关单元622可以包括一端连接至电能存储单元621而另一端连接至电感L2的第13开关元件和第14开关元件。第三二极管D3和第四二极管D4反向连接在第13开关元件S13和第14开关元件S14之间。
图4是用于说明为驱动PDP而将其单位帧分成多个子域的方法的时序图。
参照图4,单位帧分成8个子域SF1至SF8,以实现时分等级显示,并且子域SF1至SF8中的每一个子域又各自分为复位周期R1至R8、寻址周期A1至A8和维持放电周期S1至S8。
PDP的亮度与单位帧中维持放电周期S1至S8的持续时间成正比。单位帧中维持放电周期S1至S8的最大持续时间是255T(T表示时间)。在第n个子域SFn中的维持放电周期Sn中建立对应于因子2n的时间。因此,可以显示包括在任何子域中都不进行显示的256个等级。
图5示出了按顺序分为两组的Y个电极。图6是依照一种实施例如图2所示关于图5的PDP中由每个驱动器输出的驱动信号的时序图。
参照图6,驱动PDP的单位帧依据每一等级权重而被分成8个子域以显示时分等级,将从SF1到SF8的每一子域分成复位周期PR、寻址周期PA,以及维持放电周期PS。
复位周期PR包含第一复位周期PR1和第二复位周期PR2,期间,使放电单元初始化。
在第一复位周期PR1中,把具有从第一级Vsch到第三级Vsch+Vset大体上保持恒定斜率的上升斜坡脉冲波形的电压施加于Y电极。X电极和寻址电极均偏置于接地电平Vg。
在第二复位周期PR2中,把具有从第四级Vs到第五级Vnf大体上保持固定斜率的下降斜坡脉冲波形的电压施加于Y电极。X电极用偏置电压Vb来偏置X电极并进行复位放电,从而使所有的放电单元初始化。
在第二复位周期PR2开始时,把用于开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号施加于所有的Y电极。第一控制开关可以是诸如图3所示的第一扫描开关元件SC1之类的开关,而第二控制开关可以是诸如图3所示的第二扫描开关元件SC2之类的开关。
参照图5,Y电极从PDP的一端到PDP的另一端被分为第一组G11和第二组G12。当Y电极的数目是偶数时,第一组G11和第二组G12具有相同数目的Y电极。
对于第二组G12中的Y电极开启第一控制开关SC1和对于第二组G12中的Y电极关断第二控制开关SC2的时序与对于第一组G11中的Y电极开启第一控制开关SC1和对于第一组G11中的Y电极关断第二控制开关SC2的时序是轮流进行的。
例如,如图6所示,第二组G12的开关控制时序后是第一组G11的开关控制时序。因此,所有的Y电极中的电流顺序变化从而减小了某一时刻的电流变化,这样就降低了电磁干扰的辐射。即,在寻址周期PA中的任一时刻,仅仅驱动Y电极中的一部分电极。
在寻址周期PA中,扫描脉冲顺序地施加于Y电极,并根据扫描脉冲将显示数据信号施加于A电极从而执行寻址放电,从而在维持周期PS中执行维持放电的放电单元被选中。
在寻址周期PA中,当所有Y电极都偏置于扫描高压Vsch+Vscl时,具有低于扫描高压Vsch+Vscl的扫描低压Vscl的扫描脉冲顺序地施加于所有的Y电极。根据扫描脉冲将含有正寻址电压Va的数据脉冲施加于显示数据信号。
在维持周期PS中,维持脉冲交替地施加于X电极和Y电极,以至于执行维持放电,从而依据分配给每一子域的等级权重来显示亮度。维持脉冲交替地具有维持放电电压Vs和接地电压Vg。
可以从图2所示的每一驱动器中输出除图6所示驱动信号以外的驱动信号。
图7示出被分成奇数Y电极和偶数Y电极两组的Y电极。图8是依照又一个实施例如图2所示相对于图7的PDP由每个驱动器输出的驱动信号的时序图。
参照图8,含有至少一级的电源被施加于多个电极中的每一电极。在第二复位周期PR2的起点时刻,把用于开启第一控制开关SC1和关断第二控制开关SC2的信号施加于所有的Y电极。Y电极分为至少两组G21和G22。根据G21和G22两组区分开启第一控制开关SC1和关断第二控制开关SC2的时刻。
除了将Y电极划分为两组的方法外,当前实施例与图5和图6中的前述实施例相同。因此无须重复多余的说明。
参照图7,奇数Y电极为第一组G21,偶数Y电极为第二组G22。当Y电极的数目为偶数时,第一组G21和第二组G22具有相同数目的Y电极。同时,使第一组G21和第二组G22中的电极数目的差异最小。
参照图8,在第二复位周期PR2中,在第二组G22的开关控制时序后是第一组G21的开关控制时序。这样,所有Y电极的电流顺序变化,从而减小了某一时刻的电流变化,并从而降低了电磁干扰的辐射。
在寻址周期PA中,当所有的Y电极均偏置于扫描高压Vsch+Vscl时,具有低于扫描高压Vsch+Vscl的扫描低压Vscl的扫描脉冲顺序施加于奇数Y电极,具有低于扫描高压Vsch+Vscl的扫描低压Vscl的扫描脉冲顺序施加于偶数Y电极。根据扫描脉冲把含有正寻址电压Va的数据脉冲施加于显示数据信号。
根据驱动PDP的设备和方法的实施例,施加信号的电极分为至少两组,依据分组的不同来区分信号施加的时刻,从而降低了由于电流突变所产生的电磁干扰辐射。
上文中已经参照实施例具体示出和描述了本发明的各个方面。本领域的普通技术人员可以理解,在不偏离本发明的精神和范围的情况下,可对本发明进行形式上和细节上的各种变更。
Claims (26)
1.一种配置成通过施加多个电压中的至少一个电压于多个电极中的每一电极而驱动显示屏的设备,所述设备包括:
设定成控制第一电源和每一电极之间的连接的多个第一控制开关;和
设定成控制每一电极和第二电源之间的连接的多个第二控制开关;
其中,所述设备设定成施加用于开启多个第一控制开关和关断多个第二控制开关以大体切换所有电极的信号,所述电极分成至少两组,并根据所述至少两组区分开启第一控制开关的时刻和根据所述至少两组区分关断第二控制开关的时刻。
2.如权利要求1所述的设备,其特征在于,所述电极分为第一组和第二组,对于第二组中的电极来说,开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的时刻之后是对于第一组中的电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的另一个时刻。
3.如权利要求2所述的设备,其特征在于,所述电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,第一组包括大体从显示屏的一端延伸至显示屏的另一端的奇数电极,而第二组包括偶数电极。
4.如权利要求1所述的设备,其特征在于,所述电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,并从显示屏大体上的一端到显示屏大体上的另一端顺序地分为两组或多组。
5.如权利要求1所述的设备,其特征在于,所述电极大体上等分为各组。
6.如权利要求1所述的设备,其特征在于,所述第一电源提供比第二电源的电压高的电压。
7.如权利要求1所述的设备,其特征在于,大体上在X电极和Y电极与寻址电极交叉的区域内形成所述放电单元。
8.一种用于驱动大体上在X电极和Y电极与寻址电极交叉的区域中形成放电单元的显示屏的设备,并且所述设备配置成施加多个电压于每一Y电极而驱动显示屏,所述设备包括:
设定成控制第一电源和每一Y电极之间的连接的多个第一控制开关;
设定成控制Y电极中的每一电极和第二电源之间的连接的多个第二控制开关;
其中,所述设备设定成用于施加开启多个第一控制开关和关断多个第二控制开关以大体切换所有Y电极的信号,所述Y电极分为至少两组,并根据至少两组区分开启第一控制开关的时刻和根据至少两组区分关断第二控制开关的时刻。
9.如权利要求8所述的设备,其特征在于,单位帧包括多个子域,每个子域都具有一个等级权重以实现时分等级显示,所述每一子域均含有复位周期、寻址周期和维持放电周期,以及
所述设备设定成在寻址期间,顺序地从大体上显示屏的一端到大体上显示屏的另一端对Y电极施加扫描脉冲,并且对要显示的一个或多个放电单元中的寻址电极施加数据脉冲,其中,从所述放电单元中选出至少一个放电单元。
10.如权利要求9所述的设备,其特征在于,所述复位周期包括第一复位周期和第二复位周期,在所述第一复位周期中,将具有大体恒定斜率并从第一级提升至第三级的上升斜坡脉冲波形的电压施加于Y电极,并且在所述第二复位周期中,将具有大体恒定斜率并从第四级下降到第五级的下降斜坡脉冲波形的电压施加于Y电极。
11.如权利要求10所述的设备,其特征在于,所述设备更进一步地设定成在第二复位周期起点处,把用于开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号大体上施加于所有Y电极。
12.如权利要求11所述的设备,其特征在于,所述Y电极分为第一组和第二组,并且对于第二组中的Y电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的时刻之后是对于第一组中的Y电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的另一个时刻。
13.如权利要求12所述的设备,其特征在于,所述Y电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,并大体上从显示屏的一端到大体上显示屏的另一端顺序地分为第一组和第二组。
14.如权利要求12所述的设备,其特征在于,所述Y电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,大体上从显示屏的一端延伸至显示屏的另一端的奇数Y电极归为第一组,而偶数Y电极被归为第二组。
15.如权利要求12所述的设备,其特征在于,所述Y电极大体上等分为第一组和第二组。
16.一种用于驱动含有多个电极、设定成控制第一电源和每个电极之间的连接的多个第一控制开关、以及设定成控制每个电极和第二电源之间的连接的多个第二控制开关的显示屏的方法,所述方法包含:
施加多个电压中的至少一种电压于多个电极中的每一电极,所述电极分为至少两个组,其中,把用于开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号施加于大体上所有电极,并且根据分组区分开启第一控制开关的时刻,以及按照分组区分闭合第二控制开关的时刻。
17.如权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述电极分为第一组和第二组,对于第二组中的电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的时刻之后,是对于第一组中的电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的另一个时刻。
18.如权利要求17所述的方法,其特征在于,所述电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,第一组包括大体上从显示屏的一端延伸至显示屏的另一端的奇数电极,而第二组包含偶数电极。
19.如权利要求17所述的方法,其特征在于,所述电极在显示屏的第一方向上延伸,并从大体上显示屏的一端到大体上显示屏另一端顺序地分为第一组和第二组。
20.如权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,大体上在X电极和Y电极与寻址电极交叉的区域内形成所述放电单元。
21.如权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,大体上在X电极和Y电极与寻址电极交叉的区域内形成所述放电单元,并且把用于开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号施加于Y电极。
22.如权利要求21所述的方法,其特征在于,单位帧包含每个都具有一个等级权重以实现时分等级显示的多个子域,所述每一子域均含有复位周期、寻址周期和维持放电周期,所述方法进一步包括:
在寻址周期中,从大体上是显示屏的一端至大体上是显示屏的另一端顺序地将扫描脉冲施加于Y电极;和
对要显示的一个或多个放电单元中的寻址电极施加数据脉冲,其中,从所述放电单元中选中至少一个放电单元。
23.如权利要求22所述的方法,其特征在于,所述复位周期包括第一复位周期和第二复位周期,在所述的第一复位周期中,将具有大体恒定斜率并从第一级提升至第三级的上升斜坡脉冲波形的电压被施加于Y电极,而在所述第二复位周期中,将具有大体恒定斜率并从第四级下降到第五级的下降斜坡脉冲波形的电压被施加于Y电极。
24.如权利要求23所述的方法,其特征在于,进一步包括在第二复位周期起点处把用于开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的信号施加于大体上所有的Y电极。
25.如权利要求24所述的方法,其特征在于,所述Y电极分为第一组和第二组,对于第二组中的Y电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的时刻之后,是对于第一组中的Y电极来说开启第一控制开关和关断第二控制开关的另一个时刻。
26.如权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述Y电极大体上等分为第一组和第二组。
