Abstract

Description
技术领域
本发明涉及广播节目接收系统的领域,并且更具体地涉及面向多居住单元的基于订购的广播节目接收和分发。
背景技术
可以将针对诸如宾馆、公寓楼和大学校园之类的多居住单元设施的基于订购的广播节目分发比拟为针对诸如单个家庭的单一居住单元的接收系统的多个实现。将从本发明涉及卫星电视广播接收系统(比如基于DIRECTVTM的数字广播系统(DBS))的角度对本发明加以讨论。不过应当理解,本发明对很大范围的广播分发系统都具有适用性,比如使用通常被称为因特网的计算机和计算机网络的全球互连的有线电视系统和分发系统。
一般来说,卫星电视系统包括天线(包括碟形天线)、低噪声块下变频器(LNB)、卫星接收机(机顶盒)以及电视机(TV)。卫星接收机使得用户能够调谐到期望的频道来进行观看,并且通常直接与TV连接。传统上,如果另一个用户期望具有独立的频道控制的另一台电视机,则该用户需要单独的机顶盒以及该电视机。
通常经由卫星电视系统提供受限内容,非限定性的例子是每看即付(PPV)接收节目播送。为了提供对这样的节目播送的接收,通常为条件接收(CA)模块配备每一个接收机。不过,由于接收机的分布式属性,CA模块本身可能相对不安全。这在宾馆房间中尤其成问题(认为这种地方常常会出现偷窃接收机中的CA模块的窃贼)。
而且,为了向多居住单元中的若干单元提供卫星服务,通常与每台电视机一起使用单独的卫星接收机盒。除了购买额外的卫星接收机的成本之外,一般还要将每一个额外的卫星接收机放置在不同的居住单元中。这样,每一个居住单元典型地需要电话插孔来为装在其中的机顶盒提供电话回叫链路。本领域普通技术人员都应理解,回叫链路是为了从卫星接收机向视频源传送计费或其它信息而提供的。在帐单数据临时存储在分布的位置处的情况下,存在这样的风险:与本地机顶盒中的一个或更多个进行的通信被中断,导致计费信息没有及时地报告给广播源。这会导致广播提供商收入上的损失。
因此,期望提供一种能够实现集中式计费信息收集和向服务提供商供应以及CA模块本身安全的多居住单元的多媒体内容分发系统和方法。
发明内容
一种在多居住单元中把来自与该单元相关联的接收机装置的视频节目分发到位于该多居住单元中的多个客户端装置的方法,包括:从信号源接收与多个电视频道相关联的多个视频节目;从多个客户端装置中选定的一个客户端装置接收针对与特定电视频道相关联的特定视频节目的请求;确认与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户有权接收特定电视频道上的特定视频节目;响应于该确认,使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户数据对特定视频节目进行解扰;使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的本地密钥对经过解扰的特定视频节目重新进行加扰并且将经过重新加扰的视频节目发送到选定的客户端装置;以及维护接收机中与每一个客户端装置相关联的账户数据,并且将经过更新的账户数据发送至信号源。

具体实施方式
应当理解,为了清楚理解本发明,已将本发明的附图和说明书简化为解释说明相关的元件,同时为了简明,删除了很多在典型的基于订购的广播、接收和呈现系统和方法中出现的其它元件。本领域技术人员可以认识到,在实现本发明时,期望和/或需要其它的元件和/或步骤。不过,因为这些元件和步骤在本领域中都是公知的,所以本文不再给出这些元件和步骤的详细讨论。
根据本发明的一个方面,视频头端(head-end)解除了多居住单元结构中各种不同视频机顶盒的条件接收和PPV帐单功能。本文使用的“视频头端”一般是指基于订购的节目播送传输系统的控制中心,在该控制中心处,接收广播信号并且将广播信号分发到多居住单元。在这种构造中,视频头端调谐至期望的转发器、对节目流进行去多路复用(de-multiplex)并且将节目流传送到位于居住单元中的各个客户端装置(例如,机顶盒)。通过本质上将条件接收模块重新定位到头端,可以通过保护头端的安全(例如,在布线室中)来放置CA模块被偷窃。
头端可以利用常规的拷贝保护机制来确保它传送到客户端装置的内容表示信号在传输媒介(例如可以采取种类5(Cat5)布线或基于QAM的以太网的形式)上不是“明传的(in the clear)”。可供选用的拷贝保护方案包括SmartRight(在商业上可从本发明的受让人Thomson Multimedia获得)和IPsec实现方案。为了使解释具有非限制性的目的,IPsec(IP安全保护的缩写)是由因特网工程任务组(IETF)所开发的用于支持分组在因特网协议(IP)层上的安全交换的一组协议。传统上采用IPsec来实现虚拟专用网络(VPN)。IPsec支持两种加密模式:传输模式和隧道模式。传输模式仅仅加密每一个分组的数据部分(有效载荷),但是不触及报头。更加安全的隧道模式将对报头和有效载荷二者进行加密。在接收侧,IPsec兼容装置对每一个分组进行解密。本发明的内容分发系统和方法可以使用传输模式或者隧道模式中的任意一种。
根据本发明的一个方面,每一个客户端装置将节目播送(比如每看即付(PPV))请求传送到头端,头端对该事务(transaction)进行授权,并将所请求的节目发送到做出请求的客户端装置。头端把来自客户端装置的购买行为进行汇总,并且按照与传统的单独机顶盒相同的方式经由回叫链路与服务供给者(比如DIRECTVTM)进行通信。不过,头端把针对多居所的汇总的节目计费信息(例如,多服务供给者账户)发送给服务提供商来处理。很容易明白,这使得服务提供商更加容易计费,并且消除了每一个居住单元中安装的客户端装置与单独的回叫链路(比如电话线)相连接的要求。
现在参照图1,示出了根据本发明的一个方面的系统100的框图。系统100包括用于从广播源15接收广播视频节目信号的天线10和用于将接收到的信号选择性地分发给电视机30、50、60的接收机20。应该理解,虽然示出了三台电视机,但是电视机的实际数量可以有大幅变化,并且可以支持相当大数量的电视机和居住单元。在广播源包括卫星15的情况下,天线10通常包括用于接收卫星视频信号的碟形天线和喇叭天线以及用于放大接收到的卫星视频信号并将所有的卫星载波频率转换为第一IF频率(中频)的低噪声块(LNB),该第一IF频率通常为L波段中的大约950到1450MHz(兆赫兹)。这个卫星载波频率的下变频能够实现通过同轴电缆12与天线10和卫星接收机的连接,而不是通过昂贵的波导进行连接。在附图中没有示出喇叭天线和LNB。
每一个电视机30、50、60与遥控器(未示出)相关联,该遥控器用于将包括频道选择信息的无线遥控器信号发送至卫星接收机20,卫星接收器20为该电视机调谐到指定的频道。卫星接收机20可以为每一个电视机调谐到不同的频道,从而同时每一个电视机可以显示不同的节目。在输入端子或端口21从天线10接收到广播视频信号时,卫星接收机20响应于各个遥控器信号而调谐到多个频道,并且将来自各个频道的视频信号经端口22提供给电视机30、50、60。
每一个电视机30、50、60可以是但不限于支持HDTV(高清晰度电视)格式和/或SDTV(标准清晰度电视)格式的显示器。每一个电视机30、50、60与相关联的客户端装置35、55、65通信地耦合,客户端装置35、55、65接着又经由通信网络40与接收机20耦合。装置35、55、65可以分别经由常规同轴电缆、部件连接和/或数字链路(例如,高密度多媒体输入(HDMI)连接)与电视机30、50、60通信地耦合。
网络40可以采用数据网络的形式,比如无线和/或有线网络,例如,用户数据报协议(UDP)兼容网络,比如TCP/IP网络。在使用无线网络40(例如802.11x兼容网络)的情况下,接收机20可选地包括收发机,比如射频(RF)发射机、接收机和天线。备选地,可以使用单独的无线网络接口并且使其与接收机20通信地耦合。在任一情况下,卫星接收机20和客户端装置35、55、65通过网络40进行通信,并且卫星接收机20将所调谐的视频信号转换为分组,这些分组具有网络客户端35、45、55(可以是无线的也可以是有线的)的网络40地址作为目的地址,从而使得所接收到的内容得以提供给电视机30、50、60。
为了与每个客户端35、45和55相关联的计费和其它管理的目的,卫星接收机20还包括回叫链路25端口23。回叫链路25可以采用面向服务提供商的简易老式电话系统(POTS)链路的形式,从而使得用户能够购买例如PPV节目播送。这一回叫链路可以由所有电视机30、50、60共享,响应于与装置35、55、65的用户交互而操作,并且取决于与这些装置相关联的用户账户而操作。因此,可以把对应于不同用户与服务提供商的账户的、来自各个装置35、55、65的多个回叫数据流进行汇总,并且使用同一回叫链路进行传送。有利地,这使得系统100的操作员能够将计费信息存储在安全的地点,例如存储在接收机20中,而不是存储在每一个装置35、55、65中。这样,即使装置35、55、65中的任何装置单独断开连接,也不会丢失或延迟还没有传送给广播提供商的之前的计费信息(可以对应于所购买的PPV事件)。
现在参照图2,示出了适用于图1的系统100的卫星接收机20’的框图。接收机20’包括用于控制接收机20’操作的控制器230,例如,调谐器(如图2所示的调谐器/解调器)205、210、215。控制器230使用总线(未示出,例如集成电路间(IIC)总线)与其它模块通信。这里所使用的术语“控制器”代表各种不同的装置,包括但不限于微处理器、微计算机、微控制器和控制器。为了简要地说明,图2中可能没有示出与卫星接收机相关联的某些常规要素,比如某些控制信号、电源信号和/或其它要素。
每一个调谐器205、210、215可以与电视机/客户端装置对30/35、50/55、60/65相关联。备选地,每一个调谐器可以与可用于调谐的单独的转发器相关联。这样,所提供的调谐器的数量可以与系统10中电视机/客户端装置对的数量和/或可用于调谐的转发器的数量中任一数量相关联。当然,在确定所需调节器的数量时,可以应用统计思想,从而可能不需要一一对应。在图2所示的情况下,调谐器205、210、215分别与电视机/客户端装置对30/35、50/55、60/65相关联。每一个调谐器响应于来自相应的电视机/客户端装置对30/35、50/55、60/65的请求,调谐到由控制器230所指示的频道,并且将来自该频道的视频信号解调为解调后的视频流。将解调后的视频流馈送给条件接收模块240,以便在进一步分发之前进行解密。
CA模块240可以采取提供智能卡的常规条件接收服务的汇集的形式。每一个智能卡提供了便于对传输流(与节目相关联)的汇集进行解扰的能力。当把接收机添加到分发网络中时,智能卡可以以一对一为基础(一个智能卡,一个接收机)来分配。在该过程中,无论什么时候在网络中添加新的接收机,通过安全地收集接收机ID信息并把该信息与特定的消费者账户和特定的智能卡相关联而对该接收机进行认证。这可以通过利用足以进行关联和验证的信息使智能卡安全地“回叫”到服务来实现。一旦其完成,该服务向智能卡发送足够的秘密信息,使其能够支持针对特定接收机ID的节目解扰。在这种构造中,控制器可以维护接收机ID与特定智能卡的映射,以便正确处理来自接收机的节目请求。
取决于智能卡的性能(内部存储量、处理能力、带宽存取)以及系统服务,可以使多个接收机,甚至是多个账户与单个卡相关联。映射方式可以与上述相同,除了单个卡可以支持多个节目和账户。
再进一步,可以实现安全的多节目、多账户条件接收处理器。在这种情况下,可以使用单个条件接收处理器来支持分发网络上的所有或多组接收机。分配和认证过程可以与上文描述的相同。可以将充足的安全存储器、处理能力和接口带宽集成到到该装置中,以支持分发网络上最大数量的接收机。在这样的情况下,可以使用常规的高速安全处理器和现场可编程门阵列(FPGA),以便对多个智能卡的条件接收功能进行汇总。在任一方式下,将CA服务重新分配给头端可以减少与实现机顶盒的CA相关联的成本和用户混淆,并且简化了用户和服务提供商的计费功能。仅仅为了非限制性解释说明的目的,将从接收机20’涉及包含有多个常规的条件接收模块(例如智能卡)的CA模块240的角度讨论接收机20’。
接收机20’还包括分组格式器250和网络接口260。分组格式器250优选地适合于与网络接口260和网络40一起使用。将解调后的视频流(例如可以包括MPEG-2分组)馈送给分组格式器250,分组格式器250使用常规的方法,将传送来的分组格式化为网络40可传送的分组,例如IP分组。然后使用网络接口260通过网络40将IP分组分别传送到客户端装置35、55、65。分组格式器250可以附加与调谐器205相关联的一个装置35的IP地址。与分组格式器250一样,网络接口260优选地适合于与网络40(例如TCP/IP网络)一起使用。在图示的实施方式中,网络接口260与分组格式器250通信地耦合,以接收经由网络40传递到客户端装置35、55、65的格式化分组;与CA模块240通信地耦合,用来经由网络40提供CA模块240与客户端装置35、55、65之间的互连性;与控制器230通信地耦合,用来经由网络40提供控制器230与客户端装置35、55、65之间的互连性。分组格式器和网络接口的构造和使用在所属领域中是公知的。
接收机20’还包括适合于经由端口23通过回叫链路(例如,POTS或因特网连接)与广播(例如节目播送)源进行通信的调制器/解调器(MODEM)270。
现在参照图3,示出了根据本发明的一个方面的处理流程300。处理流程300适合与包含接收机20’(图2)的系统100(图1)结合使用。作为非限制性的例子,控制器230通过与相关联的客户端装置35的常规用户交互接收来自于电视机30的内容请求,例如要观看的特定视频节目(处理310)。就是说,装置35将代表用户请求的数据经由网络40发送到接收机20’。接收机20’使用网络接口260在端口22上接收该请求。然后,将该请求转发到控制器230。控制器230处理该请求,并且命令与电视机/客户端装置对30/35相对应的调谐器205对与所请求的频道和视频节目相对应的转发器进行调谐(处理320)。调谐器205响应于对与所请求的内容相对应的转发器进行调谐而产生代表经由端口21所接收的信号的数据流,当然,其它的调谐器210、215可以同时产生它们自有的代表被调谐的其它频道和视频节目的数据流。控制器230还对请求进行处理,以确认做出请求的电视机/客户端装置对30/35有权接收所请求的内容(处理330)。该确定过程可以类似于由CA使能的卫星接收机机顶盒常规使用的确定过程。还可以将请求转发到CA模块240。
如果做出请求的客户端装置35有权接收所请求的内容,则与调谐器205和/或电视机/客户端装置对30/35相关联的CA模块240的实现智能卡的CA从调谐器205接收代表所请求内容的数据流,并且对所接收的数据流进行常规的条件接收处理,以使电视机/客户端装置对30/35能够呈现该内容(处理340)。例如,CA模块240可以接收解扰密钥并以常规方式使用与客户端装置35相关联的账户数据对表示内容的数据进行解扰。然后,可以对接收内容重新进行保护,以便经由网络40传送到电视机/客户端装置对30/35。然后将经过处理的数据流提供给分组格式器250进行常规的格式化,之后将经过格式化的、处理后的数据流提供给网络接口260,以便经由网络40提供给客户端装置35(处理360)。最后,控制器230可以维护与电视机/客户端装置对30/35相关联的账户数据(处理370),比如通过更新与做出请求的客户端装置35相关联的账户计费信息,以反映内容请求得以接收和/或授权。
作为另一个非限制性的例子,用户可以以常规方式使用遥控器和图形用户接口(GUI)与客户端装置35进行交互,以请求呈现特定的节目,比如PPV事件。接收机20’经由网络40、端口22和网络接口260接收来自客户端装置35的代表用户请求的数据。根据本发明的一个方面,控制器230对所接收到的请求进行处理,以便对做出请求的客户端装置35进行识别和认证。备选地,CA模块240可以对做出请求的装置35进行认证。在任一方式下,装置35都可以按照常规方式进行识别和认证,比如通过检查请求的源地址、请求的时间和附加到请求的数字签名。根据本发明的备选方面,可以命令调谐器205在装置识别和/或认证之前、期间或之后对与所接收的请求相对应的转发器进行调谐。
一旦得到识别和认证,控制器230可以处理与做出请求的客户端装置35和服务提供商相对应或相关的账户数据,以确认与做出请求的客户端装置相关联的账户有权接收所请求的内容。例如,在PPV事件的情况下,控制器230可以通过如下方式来确认授权传送所请求的PPV内容:检查与做出请求的装置35相关联的账户的订购数据,并且如果之前没有购买过PPV事件并且该PPV事件可由客户端装置35购买,则更新该订购数据以反映PPV事件。
此后,控制器230可以通知CA模块240允许接收,授权CA模块240与做出请求的装置35一同操作,以传送所请求的内容。作为响应,CA模块240使用常规条件接收处理来接收授权内容,例如,使用与做出请求的装置35相关联的账户信息来接收解扰密钥并对授权内容进行解扰。CA模块240可以经由网络40与做出请求的装置35进行通信,以建立一个或更多个重新加扰密钥,用于阻止从接收机20’到做出请求的装置35的内容传输的未授权接收。例如,CA模块35可以对本地加扰密钥进行加密,例如对称密钥,使用该密钥来对内容重新进行加扰,首先使用该密钥认证与请求相关联的数字签名。在这样一种情况下,只有得到认证和授权的做出请求的设备可以接收该密钥,然后可以使用该密钥在接收到所请求的内容时以常规方式对其进行解扰。通过进一步的非限制性的解释,装置35可以使用与装置35相对应的公钥/私钥对中的私钥来对请求进行标记,并接收对称密钥;同时使用公钥/私钥对中的公钥来认证装置35,并对由接收机20’传送给装置35的对称密钥进行加密。
现在参照图4,示出了根据本发明的一个方面的装置35’的框图。装置35’适于用作图1的系统100中的任何客户端装置35、55、65。装置35’包括适于与网络40通信地连接的端口405以及适于与电视机(例如,30(图1))耦合的端口465。装置35’包括类似于网络接口260(图2)的网络接口410。装置35’包括控制器480,用于控制装置35’的操作,例如解扰器420和用户接口470。控制器480使用总线(未示出,比如集成电路间(IIC)总线)与其它模块进行通信。同样,术语“控制器”代表各种装置,包括但不限于微处理器、微计算机、微控制器和控制器。为了简要地说明,图4中可能没有示出与接收机相关联的某些常规要素,比如某些控制信号、电源信号和/或其它要素。
控制器480可以用于从CA模块240接收加扰密钥(例如对称密钥),并将其转发到解扰器420以处理所接收到的表示内容的数据。解扰器420接着为常规解码器(例如MPEG解码器)进行馈送,用于将接收到的内容数据流解码为解码后的流。在相关联的电视机30是数字电视机或能够直接处理该解码后的流的其它装置的情况下,可以经由端口465直接提供所得到的信号。在使用模拟电视机30的情况下,可以使用常规编码器440以标准电视格式(比如NTSC、PAL或SECAM)对该信号进行编码、由常规数模转换器450进行处理、并且使用常规调制器460对该信号进行调制,以便由电视机30接收和呈现。可选地,在进行调制以便向电视机30发送之前,用户接口470响应于控制器480而产生的图片、文本和/或视频可以按照常规方式与解码后的视频流结合,或代替该解码后的视频流。
控制器480可以按照常规方式与用户接口470一同操作,以便于用户操作设备35’。例如,控制器480和用户接口470可以按照常规方式协同操作地呈现可在所连接的电视机上购买的PPV事件,检查经由用户与遥控器的交互而进行的用户选择,并且将该选择转发到接收机20’的控制器230。
对于本领域的技术人员,显而易见,可以针对本发明的设备和过程进行修改和改变,而不会超出本发明的思想或范围。本发明旨在覆盖本发明的修改和改变,只要它们落在所附权利要求及其等同物的范围之内。
Claims (20)
1.一种在多居住单元中把来自接收机装置的视频节目分发到位于该多居住单元中的多个客户端装置的方法,包括:
从信号源接收与多个电视频道相关联的多个视频节目;
从多个客户端装置中的一个选定的客户端装置接收针对与特定电视频道相关联的特定视频节目的请求;
确认与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户是否有权接收特定电视频道上的特定视频节目;
在得到确认时,使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户数据对特定视频节目进行解扰;
使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的本地密钥对经过解扰的特定视频节目重新进行加扰,并且将经过重新加扰的视频节目发送到选定的客户端装置;以及,
维护接收机中与每一个客户端装置相关联的账户数据,并且将经过更新的账户数据发送至信号源。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述接收多个视频节目的步骤包括调谐到多个转发器。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述确认步骤包括认证选定的客户端装置。
4.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其中,所述确认步骤还包括将账户数据与所述选定的客户端装置相互关联。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中,所述确认步骤还取决于相关的账户数据。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中,所述维护步骤包括更新相关的账户数据。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述解扰步骤包括对至少一个加扰密钥进行解密。
8.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其中,所述重新加扰步骤包括使用与所述加扰密钥不同的至少一个密钥。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括将代表与所述加扰密钥不同的所述至少一个密钥的数据发送到所述选定的客户端装置。
10.一种将节目播送源的基于订购账户的节目播送分别分发至位于多居住单元中的多个客户端装置的设备,所述设备包括:
控制器,与所述多个客户端装置通信地耦合,并且可操作地接收来自所述客户端装置的节目播送请求;
多个调谐器,响应于所述控制器而接收多个节目播送频道;
条件接收模块,响应于所述控制器而选择性地提供对所述节目播送频道的接收;以及
存储器,存储与所述客户端装置相关联的计费信息和多个节目播送源订购账户。
11.根据权利要求10所述的设备,还包括存储在存储器中的控制器可执行代码,所述代码在由控制器执行时,可操作地确认与节目播送请求客户端装置相对应的账户有权接收所请求的节目播送。
12.根据权利要求11所述的设备,其中,所述代码在由控制器执行时,可操作地使条件接收模块对所请求的节目播送进行解扰。
13.根据权利要求12所述的设备,其中,所述代码在由控制器执行时,可操作地对所请求的节目播送重新进行加扰。
14.根据权利要求13所述的设备,其中,所述代码在由控制器执行时,可操作地将经过重新加扰的视频节目发送到做出请求的客户端装置。
15.根据权利要求11所述的设备,其中,所述代码在由控制器执行时,可操作地维护相对应的账户数据。
16.一种在共用地点将节目播送源的基于订购账户的节目播送分发到多个相关联多居住单元的方法,包括:
在每一个居住单元中提供至少一个客户端装置;
在所述共用地点的头端处接收基于订购的节目播送;
在头端处接收来自客户端装置中的一个选定的客户端装置的针对节目播送的特定部分的请求;
在头端处确认与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户有权接收特定的节目播送;
在头端处响应于该确认而使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的账户数据对特定的节目播送进行解扰;
使用与选定的客户端装置相关联的本地密钥对经过解扰的特定的节目播送重新进行加扰,并将经过重新加扰的特定的节目播送发送到选定的客户端装置;以及
在头端处维护接收机中与每一个客户端装置相关联的账户数据,并将经过更新的账户数据从头端发送到信号源。
17.根据权利要求16所述的方法,其中,所述确认步骤包括认证选定的客户端装置。
18.根据权利要求16所述的方法,其中,所述接收所述节目播送的步骤包括调谐到多个转发器。
19.根据权利要求16所述的方法,还包括把与重新加扰相关联的数据发送到选定的客户端装置。
20.根据权利要求16所述的方法,其中,所述维护步骤包括更新相关的账户数据。
