基于PC的媒体播放器(例如,RealOne、AppleiTunes、WindowsMedia Player、WinArnp等)使用PC的本地文件系统来提供媒体管理能力。它们使用网络连接来访问信息(例如,访问CDDB或其他在线音乐/DVD信息业务),并且将与媒体(例如,数字歌曲、视频等)相关联的元数据存储在本地文件系统上。这些媒体播放器可提供的本地数据多少不一,但除了由数字歌曲文件名称和数据标签(即,ID3标签)提供的数据外,(通常)很少提供另外的信息。
发明内容
本发明的一方面在于为不同的消费电子装置创建一致的用户体验,而不管它们的在线连接能力或本地存储容量如何。
本发明的另一方面在于使得在孤立或不联网的播放装置中容易创建播放列表。
本发明的又一方面在于在小的存储器空间中提供元数据,该元数据能够用于为广泛的录制品创建播放列表。

图1是使用具有本地硬盘驱动器12、存储器14以及I/O装置16、18的个人计算机(PC)的媒体播放器系统10的框图。如果该PC连接到网络20,则该PC能够访问在线音乐/DVD信息业务22提供的附加信息并且将该数据本地存储在硬盘驱动器12上或者使用局域网(LAN)或广域网(WAN)文件系统(未示出)存储该数据。
将这种能力移植到具有不一致的资源并且仍然提供感觉上相似的管理媒体的体验的消费电子(CE)产品这一问题需要不同的方法来解决,并且需要将该问题按装置的种类进行划分。图2A到2D示出了这些种类。为了针对所有这四个种类的装置向用户提供一致的体验,需要改变资源利用和创建方式以增加强力(brute force)本地文件存储和检索方法,选择性地存储模拟海量在线音乐信息业务所提供的信息的关键信息和预加工(pre-crafted)本地数据集。在消费电子产品中进行播放的通常方法是从包含有成百上千媒体文件的音频CD或CD-R数据盘或者从包含成百上千媒体文件的FLASH存储设备访问数字音频文件。
图2A示出了具有本地硬盘驱动器34的联网的CD播放器32,该CD播放器32能够通过访问在线音乐/DVD信息业务22并且使用TV 36作为输出装置来提供图1的基于PC的媒体播放器10的全部功能。诸如Escient(FireBallTM)、Yamaha(MusicCAST)等的几个公司已经解决了如何实现这种装置的问题。

对于CD-R或DVD-R媒体,该问题稍有不同。由于大多数CD-R/DVD-R盘是由用户定制制作的,所以不存在用于识别盘并且提供媒体数据和其他属性的在线业务。这些CD-R/DVD-R盘通常仅包含文件集,该文件集包含经适度组织的数字音乐文件(例如,MP3文件)。虽然光存储技术协会(OSTA)和Microsoft/Panasonic都已经提出了规范(分别是MPV和HighMATTM)以通过将分级文件结构信息添加到盘上来改进CD-R和DVD-R盘在消费电子装置上的导航,但是很少有盘是使用MPV或HighMATTM创建的。此外,MPV和HighMATTM仅解决了本发明所解决的一部分问题。根据本发明的系统将创建与该盘相关联的唯一标识符,从而播放器42′进行的、识别CD-R/DVD-R内容的费力处理仅发生一次,然后能够通过使用web业务48在线访问媒体库来获得该内容的元数据。
使用上述的能力,图2C所示的系统42′能够以与图2A和2B所示的系统32和42一致的方式进行工作,同时能够消除昂贵的本地硬盘驱动器34或者对经由LAN/WAN来访问存储器46的需求。这提供的附带好处是:在对CD-R/DVD-R处理了一次以后,其后每当用户插入该CD-R/DVD-R盘时,该盘将“瞬时”可用。用户会感受到一致的体验。
图2D所示的系统,即,具有ROM 54和容量有限的闪速存储器44的不联网的CD播放器52提供了更大的挑战。在这种情况下,附加数据必须存储在ROM中,从而可以刻画个人FLASH音频播放器、个人FLASH存储装置或CD-R/DVD-R上的CD和数字音频文件的特征,以提供“模拟”从在线音乐信息业务检索到的信息的数据。这种数据是艺术家姓名、艺术家别名、相关的艺术家信息、流派映射信息等,即,通常从在线业务22检索到所有数据。虽然可以依靠在线音乐信息业务22来返回与所识别的每首歌有关的信息,但是在不联网的装置中,该装置上的编程智能必需满足由数字文件24自身所提供的信息(例如,文件名、文件名路径(如果有的话)、以及包含在文件24的标签(诸如ID3标签)中的任何信息)。该系统必须利用这些项中任意或全部的项来创建能够描述该数字文件的“足够”的属性集以使其能够用于创建播放列表,该播放列表是与待播放的其他歌曲进行恰当分组的待播放歌曲的集合。
许多不联网的装置具有播放不同的歌曲(例如,数字音乐文件)的能力,甚至具有播放歌曲集的播放列表的能力。然而,在不联网的装置中动态地创建恰当分组的用于播放的歌曲集的能力是有限的。通过动态地在联网的PC上创建播放列表并且然后将该播放列表(和相关联的歌曲)“同步”到FLASH音乐播放器上以进行播放,诸如ThomsonLyraFLASH音乐播放器或AppleiPOD的装置已经这样做了。其他装置最多创建通常称作洗牌(shuffled)播放列表的随机排序的播放列表。然而,根据本发明,可以提供用于检查所有与数字文件相关联的数据的精密编程逻辑并且在本地创建播放列表,而并不需要连接到音乐信息业务或者与来自联网的PC的数据进行同步。
这种精密编程逻辑可依靠与文件直接相关联的数据(例如,文件名、文件名路径(如果有的话)、以及包含在文件的ID3标签中的可能包括歌曲的艺术家姓名、流派、发行年份等的任何信息)。然而,通常除了歌曲名称和艺术家姓名以外,从文件名、文件名路径或ID3标签中只能提取到很少数据或者提取不到数据。如果情况是这样的,则该编程逻辑不能够提供在创建播放列表时使用的属性,从而由不联网的装置所创建的任何播放列表将会令人非常不满意。
为了克服该缺点,根据本发明的一个方面,提供了一种目标信息集,编程逻辑可使用该目标信息集来创建较好的播放列表。经验表明,通常能够从数字音乐文件提取出的仅有数据是艺术家姓名和歌曲名称。通过使用模糊串匹配,可使艺术家姓名与艺术家姓名表相匹配,所述模糊串匹配允许去除前置词(例如,The或El、le等)、轻微的拼写错误、去除标点、颠倒的词序(例如,Tom Jones或Jones,Tom)等。另外,表可包含可以提高匹配文本串的能力的昵称(例如,The Beatles或Fab Four)。一旦数字音乐文件与一表条目“相匹配”,则随后可将该艺术家的属性分配给该数字音乐文件,用于随后的播放列表产生。
通过认真地只选择需要包括在ROM中的那些艺术家(以及相关联的属性),使得可以在苛刻的装置ROM存储容量限制下创建允许不联网的装置向用户提供与联网的装置一致的体验的这种数据集。
另外,该ROM可以包含可在ID3标签中找到的数据的映射表,从而可将该数据适当地用作属性。流派、地理区域、年代等的映射表优选地设置在ROM中,用于帮助尽可能多地提供各个数字文件的可用属性。
根据本发明的系统提供了一种自动的、可缩放的并且可调的处理,该处理可通过创建适于存储在ROM中的艺术家姓名和属性数据的紧凑表示(compact representation),针对世界范围内的目标区域选择任意大小的数据集,用于在不联网的装置中创建播放列表。
如图3所示,遍布世界的计算机10和装置(未示出)当前使用的诸如CDDB的在线音乐/DVD信息业务22能够收集作为音乐曲集的压缩盘的使用统计量或者对诸如数字音乐文件或DVD盘的媒体的其他识别请求的使用统计量。图4示出了信息业务22如何通过对识别出针对特定媒体(例如,压缩盘或曲集)的请求的频率进行计数来收集并处理这些使用统计量。如果该信息业务能够使用诸如反向IP映射的技术(与DigitalEnvoy在其NetAcuityTM产品中提供的技术相同)来收集请求PC 10或装置的位置,则该信息业务还能够将统计量60分离成诸如DVD区域编码区的区域统计量62到64,如图5所示。此外,区域化的统计量62到64还可用于对各个区域内最流行艺术家的列表66到68进行计数和合计。
创建区域艺术家列表的目的是提供一种用于优化存储空间的紧凑信息集,该紧凑信息集能够模拟从诸如CDDB的音乐信息业务返回的信息。这将使得定制数据集能够适应消费电子装置分布区域,优化用户体验,同时使对ROM存储器的需求最小化。图6和图7示出了区域ROM内容的样本。
当然,所有数据将被压缩并加密以进行保护。相似地,可使串匹配码适应分布区域,这会进一步减小码的大小以及相关数据表的大小。
因为在图2D所示的系统中,将会识别CD和CD-R/DVD-R,并且与那些唯一盘有关的适量数据会被存储在闪速存储器中。小量的闪速存储器能够专用于存储与各个CD、CD-R/DVD-R或数字文件有关的用于优化用户的体验的信息。
这些不同的方法实现了由全世界信息推动的一致的用户体验,而不管消费电子装置资源或连通性,从而优化了嵌入数据需求,使其成为可能。

Claims (27)

10.如权利要求9所述的方法,其中,所述选出的元数据包括艺术家姓名、艺术家别名、相关的艺术家信息、流派映射信息、发行年份、艺术家类型以及起源国家中的至少一个。
11.一种产生播放列表的方法,所述方法包括:
访问步骤,访问根据如权利要求8所述的方法为包含音频的录制品集识别出的元数据;以及
选择步骤,从所述录制品集中选择相关录制品以形成播放列表,其中,所述相关录制品具有至少一种类型的所述元数据的匹配值;从而针对不同的消费电子装置创建了一致的用户体验,而不管在线连接能力和本地存储容量。
12.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中,所述元数据包括艺术家姓名、艺术家别名、相关的艺术家信息、流派映射信息、发行年份、艺术家类型以及起源国家中的至少一个。
13.一种播放包含音频的录制品的装置,所述装置包括:
存储器,用于存储为一地理区域选出的元数据,所述选出的元数据是通过收集所述录制品在多个地理区域中的播放的统计量、按照所述地理区域分离所述统计量和对应元数据、并基于所述统计量为所述地理区域选择所述对应元数据的一部分而获得的。
14.如权利要求13所述的装置,所述装置还包括:处理器,其被编程为:获得与录制品相关联的第一元数据;访问所述选出的元数据;以及将所述第一元数据与所述选出的元数据中的第二元数据进行匹配。
15.如权利要求14所述的装置,其中,所述处理器还被编程为:访问录制品集的第一元数据和第二元数据;以及从所述录制品集中选择相关录制品以形成播放列表,其中,所述相关的录制品具有至少一种类型的所述元数据的匹配值;从而针对不同的消费电子装置创建了一致的用户体验,而不管在线连接能力和本地存储容量。
16.一种计算机程序产品,所述计算机程序产品包括存储在机器可读介质上的程序代码装置,当所述程序在计算机上执行时所述程序代码装置执行根据权利要求1所述的所有步骤。
17.如权利要求16所述的计算机程序产品,所述方法还包括:将所述对应元数据的所述一部分存储在计算机可读存储器中。
18.如权利要求16所述的计算机程序产品,其中,通过编程的计算机系统来自动执行所述收集步骤、分离步骤和选择步骤。
19.如权利要求16所述的计算机程序产品,其中,所述选择步骤包括选择流行录制品的元数据,所述流行录制品是指所述统计量表明其是在所述地理区域中的所述一个内最为流行的录制品。
20.如权利要求19所述的计算机程序产品,其中,所述选择步骤还包括选择另外的录制品的下述对应元数据:所述流行录制品的代表性不足的子区域和流派中的至少一个。
21.如权利要求20所述的计算机程序产品,其中,对多于一个的所述地理区域重复所述选择步骤。
22.如权利要求21所述的计算机程序产品,所述方法还包括:每次当对不同地理区域执行所述选择步骤时,将所述对应元数据的所述一部分存储在不同的计算机可读存储器中。
23.一种计算机程序产品,所述计算机程序产品包括存储在机器可读介质上的程序代码装置,当所述程序在计算机上执行时所述程序代码装置执行根据权利要求1所述的所有步骤。
24.如权利要求23所述的计算机程序产品,其中,所述获得步骤包括:读取所述录制品的文件名、文件名路径和ID3标签中的至少一个。
25.如权利要求24所述的计算机程序产品,其中,所述选出的元数据包括艺术家姓名、艺术家别名、相关的艺术家信息、流派映射信息、发行年份、艺术家类型以及起源国家中的至少一个。
26.一种存储有指令的计算机程序产品,所述指令当被执行时控制处理器来执行产生播放列表的方法,所述方法包括:
访问步骤,访问根据如权利要求8所述的方法为包含音频的录制品集识别出的元数据;以及
选择步骤,从所述录制品集中选择相关录制品以形成播放列表,其中,所述相关录制品具有至少一种类型的所述元数据的匹配值;从而针对不同的消费电子装置创建了一致的用户体验,而不管在线连接能力和本地存储容量。
27.如权利要求26所述的计算机程序产品,其中,所述元数据包括艺术家姓名、艺术家别名、相关的艺术家信息、流派映射信息、发行年份、艺术家类型以及起源国家中的至少一个。
