Abstract

Description

功率转换器及其操作方法
本发明是在2001年12月3日提交的共同转让的美国专利申请No.10/005,961号的部分继续申请(C-I-P),并且要求其优先权,该专利的思想通过引用的方式被包含于此。
技术领域
本发明一般涉及功率转换器领域,并且特别涉及一种便携式双输入AC和DC至可编程DC输出功率转换器。
背景技术
随着PC笔记本、PDA、移动电话等等的不断普及,需要更低成本、小体积的电源来对这些设备供电。当前,大多数移动设备的制造商一般随着这些移动设备提供插入式电源适配器,以满足他们的客户对电源的要求。
但是,现在存在对功率转换器的需要,其解决与携带对多种移动或便携设备供电的所有不同电源组件相关的系统管理问题。另外,这种功率转换器通过响应外部AC或外部DC输入电压提供调整的DC输出电压而有利地满足对几种不同移动设备的电源需求。并且,这种功率转换器将具有电能存储能力,无论何时外部输入电压暂时切断时,其使得该功率转换器把恒定不间断的DC输出电压提供到用户连接的移动设备。
发明内容
本发明实现作为功率转换器的优点,其把可以从一个分离的可拆卸电池组传送从两个分离的外部输入电压导出的一个恒定调整的DC输出电压。无论何时每个外部输入电压不可靠或者被暂时除去时,该可拆卸的电池组有利地使得该功率转换器自动和连续地把调整的DC电压传送到该移动设备。另外,该功率转换器还利用一部分调整的DC输出电压来在正常操作过程中对该电池组进行常规的再充电。
在一个实施例中,本发明是一个功率转换器,其中包括一个电源电路和可选择地拆卸的存储电路。该电源电路包括一对输入滤波器电路,每个电路适合于对提供到该电源电路的AC和DC输入电压进行滤波,并且提供一对滤波的输出电压。该电源电路还包括一个DC至DC转换器以及一个AC至DC转换器,每个转换器提供DC电压输出。该电源还包括一个共享DC电路,其耦合到该DC至DC转换器和AC至DC转换器的DC输出端。该共享的DC电路在两个输出端提供两个调整的相反极性的DC输出电压。该共享的DC电路还适用于使得用户通过一个可编程键有选择地对该调整的输出电压进行编程,以匹配他们的移动设备的电压和电流标准。
该可拆卸的电池组包括一个可再充电电池,用于把充电电流提供到该可再充电电池的电池充电器、以及包括一对开关和用于控制该电池组的充电功能的反相器门的开关电路。该电池组适合于在正常操作过程中通过一个共同连接器插塞分接该电源电路的输出端,用于再充电。有利地,该电池组可以作为该DC输入功率的第二来源,接着即使外部输入电压暂时中断或除去,使得该功率转换器的电源继续把电能传送到用户连接的设备。
根据本发明的第一方法,提供了一种功率转换器,其中包括:电源电路,其提供调整的DC输出电压并且具有第一和第二电路,所述电源电路在所述第一和第二电路分别接收AC输入电压和DC榆入电压,并且相应地在第一节点提供调整的DC输出电压;以及存储电路,其耦合到所述电源电路,所述存储电路存储备用DC输入电压,其中仅响应于所述AC和DC输入电压被暂时地除去,所述存储电路自动把所述备用DC输入电压传送到所述电源电路,以产生足以对便携设备进行供电的调整的DC输出电压。
根据本发明的另一方面,提供了一种操作功率转换器的方法,所述功率转换器对便携设备进行供电,其中所述方法包括如下步骤:使用功率转换器响应于AC或DC输入电压产生DC输出电压;以及仅响应于所述AC和DC输入电压从所述功率转换器被除去,而自动把备用DC输入电压传送到所述功率转换器,并且相应地产生足以对所述便携设备供电的所述DC输出电压。

具体实施方式
本发明是一种多输入功率转换器10,其可以由三个相互独立的外部输入电源中的任何之一来工作:DC输入、AC输入或者分离的可拆卸的电池组14。该功率转换器10可以产生并且传送一个调整的DC电压输出到各个用户连接的移动设备,例如膝上计算机、移动电话、或PDA。但是,如果该外部AC和DC输入电压被意外或有意地中断或从转换器10上除去,则该电池组14将作为输入功率的第二来源,以对功率转换器12进行供电,以传送不间断的调整的DC电压。另外,该功率转换器10将在正常操作过程中用一部分相同的调整DC输出电压对电池组14进行充电,在需要时使得该电池电能可用。
在图1中示出根据本发明的一个示意实施例的双输入AC/DC功率转换器10,其包括具有实际可拆卸耦合的电池组14。该电源12包括两个输入端16和18,用于分别接收外部DC输入电压和AC输入电压。该DC输入电压最好为一个外部DC电压,即从例如汽车点烟器插头或者飞机上的EMPOWER DC插头导出的电压,并且具有在5VDC和15VDC之间的电压。类似地,该AC输入最好为例如在大多数家庭和办公环境中的在112VAC和230VAC的范围内的来源导出的一个外部AC电压。在一个优选实施例中,该电源12在输出端22把两个调整的DC电压导出到一个用户连接的移动设备。
在一个实施例中,该电源12包括一对噪声滤波电路24和26,用于对到达输入端16和18的每个输入电压进行滤波。该电源12还包括一个DC至DC转换器电路30,其把该滤波的DC电压逐级升压到15伏和24伏直流之间的一个电压,然后传送到一个共享DC电路34。类似地,该电源12包括一个AC至DC转换器电路32,其把滤波的AC电压转换为在15伏和24伏之间的一个DC信号。该AC至DC转换器32的输出还被输入到该共享DC电路34。通过端子20和22从共享DC电路34输出的电压包括一对调整的DC输出电压,用户可以使用该电压对各种不同的用户连接的移动设备进行供电。另外,本发明的用户可以通过分离可拆卸的编程键15控制该调整的DC电压输出的幅度。对于该共享DC电路34和编程键15的更加详细的描述,请参见共同未决的美国专利申请No。10/005,961,名称为"A Dual Input AC and DCPower Supply Having A Programmable DC Output",该专利的思想通过引用的方式被包含于此。
该功率转换器10还包括分离可拆卸的电池组14,其在各个节点N1、N2和N3通过连接器插塞分接该电源12。该电池组14包括可再充电电池36、电池充电器38以及包括第一开关40、第二开关42和反相器门44的开关电路。
本发明可以被配置为以两种不同的工作模式来工作:第一种为直接供电模式,其中电源12通过从提供到各个输入端16和18的外部输入电压之一导出输入功率而产生调整的DC输出电压;第二种是电池模式,其中该电源12提供从可拆卸电池组14的电池36导出的一个类似的调整的DC输出电压。最好,当外部输入电压被暂时中断或者被从电源12除去时,本发明自动地以电池模式工作。
在该直接供电模式中,实际附加的电池组14被通过节点N3电连接到电源12,该电池组14还馈送到输出端22。该电池组14包括第一开关40和第二开关42,它们之间耦合有反相器门44,并且每个开关最初处于常开位置,如图所示。该电池组14还包括该电池充电器38和可再充电电池36。
在操作中,当滤波电路24或26分别检测一个所接收的DC或AC电压时,其在线路46上产生由反相器门44检测的一个电源接通信号。该线路46上的电源接通信号触发第一开关40闭合。相同的电源接通信号46被反相器门44所反相,并且被第二开关42接收,使其保持在常开位置。一旦,该第一开关40闭合,则被提供在节点N3处的调整的DC输出电压的一部分经开关40传送到电池充电器38。一旦通电,该电池充电器38把一个充电电流传送到可再充电电池36的正电极,用于对其充电。另外,由于第二开关42保持在常开位置,则开关42防止可再充电电池把电池电压馈送到节点N1,从而避免电源12接收附加的DC输入电压。
因此,在直接供电模式中,本发明在端子22把调整的DC输出电压传送到移动设备和电池组14。有利地,本发明的用户没有购买一个分离的电池充电器来对电池组14进行充电的麻烦。
在电池模式下,即,在没有输入AC或DC功率被提供给电源12的情况下,电池组14自动用作辅助DC输入电源。这里,在线路46上,电源12没有声明任何接通(power-on)信号。如此,第一开关40仍旧在常开位置,以及门44现在触发第二开关42从其常开位置转换到关闭位置。结果,第二开关42将电源12的节点N1电耦合到可再充电电池36的正电极。而且,当第二开关42关闭时,可再充电电池36将5伏特至24伏特之间的DC电压馈送到节点N1。在节点N1的所述输入电池电压馈送到DC至DC转换器30的输入,所述DC至DC转换器30接着响应与此而产生逐步升高的DC电压并将其馈送到共享DC电路34。共享DC电路34接着产生在5伏特至24伏特之间的两个调整的DC电压,并经由输出端20和22将其传递到连接到其的用户的移动设备。因此,电池组14有利地用作预备的DC输入源,即使在相应端子16和18的各个外部输入电压暂时中断或被去除,其也能连续地提供DC输入电压给电源12。
无论何时外部AC或DC输入电压被重新建立给端子16和18,电源12都自动恢复到以直接供电模式进行操作。在恢复到其直接供电模式的过程中,电源12将再次在线路46上产生内部接通信号,其使得第一开关40闭合,而开关42打开,由此使得电池充电器38对可再充电电池36进行充电。如前面所讨论的那样,所述接通信号46由反相器门44进行反相,从而使得第二开关42在其常开位置。这有效地将可再充电电池36的正电极从节点N1断开,由此有效地切断电池功率,以使其不被传递到电源12。
最好,在开关40和42之间耦合的反相器门44保证每个开关工作于互为相反的状态。即,反相器门44适当地释放电池组14,以保证电源12不同时接收来自所有三个外部电源的输入功率。
在其他实施例中,该电池充电器38具有与可再充电电池36的化学物质相匹配的特性,使得电池组14可以包括多个层叠可再充电电池52和54。如图2所示,这些附加的可再充电电池适合于有利地提供具有附加电能存储能力的电源12。

Claims (20)

1.一种功率转换器,其中包括:
电源电路,其提供调整的DC输出电压并且具有第一和第二电路,所述电源电路在所述第一和第二电路分别接收AC输入电压和DC榆入电压,并且相应地在第一节点提供调整的DC输出电压;以及
存储电路,其耦合到所述电源电路,所述存储电路存储备用DC输入电压,其中仅响应于所述AC和DC输入电压被暂时地除去,所述存储电路自动把所述备用DC输入电压传送到所述电源电路,以产生足以对便携设备进行供电的调整的DC输出电压。
2.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路包括一个电池充电器和可再充电电池,所述电池充电器响应于所述AC输入电压或者所述DC输入电压被提供给所述电源电路,而有选择地耦合到所述电源电路的第一节点,以便通过所述调整的DC输出电压的一部分对所述可再充电电池充电。
3.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路能有选择地耦合到所述电源电路以及从所述电源电路被除去。
4.根据权利要求2所述的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路进一步包括第一开关和第二开关,所述电池充电器响应于所述第一和第二开关对所述可再充电电池进行充电。
5.根据权利要求4所述的功率转换器,其中响应于由所述电源电路闭合所述第二开关以及断开所述第一开关,所述可再充电电池把备用DC输入电压提供到所述第二电路。
6.根据权利要求5所述的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路还包括一个反相器门,所述反相器门耦合并控制所述第一和第二开关。
7.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述第一电路包括一个AC至DC转换器,其中所述AC至DC转换器被配置成提供在15V和24V之间的DC输出电压。
8.根据权利要求7所述的功率转换器,其中所述第二电路包括一个DC至DC升压转换器,其中所述DC至DC升压转换器被配置成提供在15V和24V之间的DC输出电压。
9.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述电源电路提供第一调整的DC输出电压和第二调整的DC输出电压。
10.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路包括一个电池组,其具有一个可再充电电池,所述电源电路响应于接收来自所述可再充电电池的充电电压提供所述调整的DC输出电压。
11.根据权利要求3所述的功率转换器,其中所述电源电路通过一个公共连接器在多个不同的节点处有选择地耦合到所述存储电路。
12.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中所述电源电路被配置成提供在5V和24V之间的一对调整的DC输出电压。
13.根据权利要求1所述的功率转换器,其中无论何时所述AC输入电压被提供到所述第一电路或者所述DC输入电压被提供到所述第二电路,所述电源电路被配置成以直接供电模式来工作,从而使得所述存储电路不将所述备用DC输入电压传送到所述电源电路。
14.根据权利要求1述的功率转换器,其中无论何时所述AC和DC输入电压没有被提供给所述转换器,所述电源电路被配置成自动以来自所述存储电路的电池模式来工作,从而使得当所述转换器从以AC输入电压或DC输入电压进行工作的情况转变到从存储电路进行工作的情况时,不中断所述调整的DC输出电压。
15.根据权利要求1的功率转换器,其中所述存储电路被配置为包括多个叠层电池。
16.一种操作功率转换器的方法,所述功率转换器对便携设备进行供电,其中所述方法包括如下步骤:
使用功率转换器响应于AC或DC输入电压产生DC输出电压;以及
仅响应于所述AC和DC输入电压从所述功率转换器被除去,而自动把备用DC输入电压传送到所述功率转换器,并且相应地产生足以对所述便携设备供电的所述DC输出电压。
17.根据权利要求16所述的方法,其中包括可再充电电池的存储电路提供所述备用DC输入电压。
18.根据权利要求17所述的方法,其中一部分所述DC输出电压被提供到所述存储电路,以仅在所述AC或DC输入电压中的任意一个被提供到所述功率转换器时对所述可再充电电池再充电。
19.根据权利要求17所述的方法,其中所述功率转换器包括AC至DC转换器和DC至DC转换器。
20.根据权利要求17所述的方法,还包括有选择地将所述存储电路连接到所述功率转换器的步骤。
