技术领域
本发明涉及喷墨打印的领域,具体而言,公开了一种改进的热弹性喷墨激励器。
背景技术
热弹性激励器喷墨喷嘴装置被描述于US专利申请NO.US09/798/757和US 09/425,29中,其由本申请人共同拥有并且在此全部引入作为参考。
依照所述文档中描述的发明实施例的第一喷嘴被描述于图1中。图1说明了喷嘴装置的侧面透视图,并且图2是图1的喷嘴装置的放大透视图。单个喷嘴装置1包括两个臂4、5,其在空气中操作并且从二硼化钛的0.3微米的薄层6来构建,该层位于玻璃的厚得多的5.8微米的层7的顶上。两个臂4、5被接合在一起并且绕点9作枢转,所述点是形成一个盒的薄膜片,该盒又形成喷嘴室10的一部分。臂4和5通过柱11、12而附着于下面的铝传导层14、15,其可形成CMOS层3的部分。喷嘴室18的外表面可从玻璃或氮化物形成并且提供要被填充墨的盒。外室18包括许多刻蚀剂孔,例如19个,其在通过MEMS处理来构建期间被提供用于内部腔体的快速牺牲刻蚀剂。

该膨胀用来使所述臂通常向下弯曲,该臂又绕膜9做枢转。该枢转导致桨板表面24的快速向上运动。桨板表面24的向上运动导致从喷嘴室21喷出墨。压力的增加不足以克服较小刻蚀剂孔19的表面张力特性,其结果是墨从喷嘴室孔21被喷出。
如先前所指出的,薄二硼化钛条6具有足够高的杨氏模量以使玻璃层7在二硼化钛层6加热时而被弯曲。因此,喷墨设备的操作如在图3-5中所说明的。在其静止状态下,喷墨喷嘴如在图3中所说明的,通常处于弯曲下来的位置,而墨弯月面30形成轻微的凸起,并且桨板绕膜壁9而被枢转。二硼化钛层6的加热使其膨胀。随后,它被玻璃层7弯曲以使桨板24绕膜壁9作枢转,如图4中所示。这导致弯月面30的快速膨胀,从而导致正的压力脉冲和从喷嘴室10通常喷墨。接下来,到二硼化钛的电流被切断并且桨板24返回到其静止状态,导致负压力脉冲,从而导致通过弯月面30通常吸回墨,这又导致从喷嘴室10按要求喷出滴31。
通过成形电加热脉冲,热弹性激励器的正压力脉冲的大小和时间常数可被控制。然而,负压力脉冲仍是不受控制的。对于高粘度和高表面的流体,负压力脉冲的特性变得较有影响。因此,如果具有适合的负压力脉冲特性的热弹性喷墨喷嘴是可用的,则这将是理想的。
与一些类型的热弹性激励器有关的另外的困难是对于很高温度的激励器,在非传导层的底表面上引入任何给定流体的沸点以上的温度并不是不平常的。
发明内容
本发明的目的是提供一种具有适合的负压力脉冲特性的热弹性激励器。
依照本发明的一个方面,提供了一种热弹性激励器组件,包括:
加热元件,包括被接合于被动(passive)弯曲层的加热层;
高热传导性材料的一个或多个层,其被放置在所述被动弯曲层内以将所述加热元件所产生的热传导得远离所述激励器组件,以便于激励器组件在操作之后返回到静止状态。
所述高热传导性材料可包括金属热传导材料。
优选地,所述金属热传导材料的一个或多个层足以防止与所述激励器接触的墨的过热。
典型地,所述金属热传导材料的一个或多个层包括热传导材料,例如铝,和被动弯曲层基片的叠层。
所设想的是,热弹性激励器被结合到喷墨打印机中。

具体实施方式
参考图6,所述为现有技术热弹性激励器40的一部分的简化侧轮廓。激励器40包括加热器层42和被动弯曲层44形式的加热元件。典型地,被动弯曲层包括低热传导率的绝缘体,如二氧化硅。诸如墨的流体填充容器46。来自加热器层42的热流的方向由箭头50和52来指示。
现在将参照图7来描述本发明的热弹性激励器的优选实施例。该激励器包括诸如铝的很高热传导材料的薄层54,其位于非热传导被动弯曲层56的中间。这样,在热能被传导远离加热器层时,它最终遇到传导层并且如箭头58所示而被传导离开。所述热由热传导层54传导离开激励器而到达支持结构(未示出)的大的相对冷的热质量上,而不是通过激励器本身的厚度进一步传导。
激励器的总的冷却下来的速度并因此被动弯曲层返回到其静止位置的速度,并且因此负压力脉冲的形状可通过热传导层54到加热器层58的接近度来控制。将热传导层放置得较接近于加热器层导致激励器较快地冷却下来。
热传导层可被放置以防止所接合的激励器的底表面变得过热,因此激励器可与任何给定流体直接接触而不导致沸腾或过热。
图8描述了依照本发明进一步实施例的热弹性激励器,其中传导途径包括三个铝层和被动弯曲材料的叠层60。通过交替铝层与被动弯曲材料,热传导层对激励器机械特性的影响可被最小化。可替换的是,具有相对低的杨氏模量的另一个热传导材料的单个层可被使用以不干扰激励器的机械特性。
在图7和8的实施例中,加热层58被直接且连续地接合于被动弯曲层56。在所谓的“隔离”型热弹性激励器中,加热元件不是连接于无源基片(passive substrate)而是通过空气间隔与其部分地分离。在图9中,所示为适用于隔离型激励器的本发明的进一步实施例,其中加热元件64通过空气间隔62与无源基片56部分地分离。热传导层54再一次用来将热传导向激励器支持组件(未示出)。
本发明向激励器提供了适合的负脉冲特性。这已通过提供热传导装置而实现,该装置处于诸如铝的好的热导体层的形式。通过改变激励器的热传导特性,冷却下来的时间可被增加以使激励器将较快地返回其静止位置。因此,本发明亦包括一种用于设计激励器以具有所需特性的方法。
该方法包含首先确定用于激励器的所需负压力脉冲特性。压力脉冲特性将由于激励器返回到其静止位置的速度而造成。典型地,负压力脉冲将被设计使用于特定粘度的墨水的小墨滴的颈缩。
一旦压力脉冲特性已被确定,则对应于所需负压力脉冲特性的热耗散分布被确定,如果有必要,该确定可借助于试错法过程(trial and errorprocess)来进行,或者可替换的是数学模拟技术可被利用。热弹性激励器然后被制造有被设置成实现所述分布的热传导层。
可能最简单的是形成具有许多热传导层的激励器以保留被动弯曲层的机械特性,由此减小在实现热耗散分布过程中所包含的变量的数量。
将认识到,所述激励器将找到在喷墨打印机组件和喷墨打印机中的应用。

Claims (6)

1.一种热弹性激励器组件,包括:
加热元件,包括被接合于被动弯曲层的加热层;
高热传导性材料的一个或多个层,其被放置在所述被动弯曲层内以将所述加热元件所产生的热传导得远离所述激励器组件,以便于激励器组件在操作之后返回到静止状态。
2.权利要求1的热弹性激励器组件,其中所述高热传导性材料包括金属热传导性材料。
3.权利要求2的热弹性激励器组件,其中所述金属热传导性材料的一个或多个层足以防止与所述激励器接触的墨的过热。
4.权利要求2的热弹性激励器组件,其中金属热传导性材料的一个或多个层包括热传导材料和被动弯曲层基片的叠层。
5.权利要求4的热弹性激励器组件,其中一个或多个层的金属热传导性材料包括铝。
6.一种喷墨打印机,其包括权利要求2的热弹性激励器组件。
