Gear change device. The object of the invention is a gear change device.
In it, as in other known gear changing devices, motor and driven members can be selectively coupled to each other in order to obtain the different speeds. But it differs from it in that it comprises means serving to choose the organs corresponding to the speed which one wishes to obtain and means intended to produce, distinctly from the choice of these organs, the coupling of the motor organs. and driven corresponding to this speed.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device, consisting of a three-speed gear change device for motor cycles.
Fig. 1 is an axial longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 2 is a cross section taken along the line A-B of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail view; Figs. 4 and 5 relate to a detail variant. The controlled shaft 4 of this embodiment is connected in a way that the drawing does not show (for example by means of a chain) to the driving wheel of the bicycle motorcycle. On it are wedged two plates 5, 6 between which are arranged three crowns 27, 28, 29, connected to the plates 5, 6 by bolts 7, 8, 9. Crowns of denominations 1, 2, 3 are provided around the Crowns 27, 28, 29 between 5 and 6, are of different diameters and are each actuated using a separate chain, not shown, by the motor of the motorcycle.
The shaft 4 can therefore walk at three different speeds depending on that of the rings 1, 2, 3 which is coupled to it.
For this purpose, an extensible segment 10 or 11 or 12 is placed between the ring 27 or 28 or 29, on the one hand, the toothed ring 1 or 2 or 3, on the other hand. The increase in its diameter with a view to coupling the corresponding ring gear to the shaft 4 is obtained by means of a wedge 15 having a trapezoidal-shaped section perpendicular to the axis of the segment and having to be pushed from inside to outside between shoes 16 of this segment; shoes 16 are not manufactured with the body of the corresponding segment. The movements of the three corners 15 from the inside to the outside take place by means of pushers 14, one of which is chosen according to the speed to be obtained from the shaft 4 and is then moved in the desired direction. The wedges and the pushers are arranged 120 from each other around the axis of 4.
This movement of one or the other of the pushers 14 is obtained by a roller of a series of three rollers 30 placed in housings 311 of a slide 31 able to move axially inside the shaft 4, which is hollow; the movement of the pusher 14 takes place by partially exiting the corresponding roller 30 outwards from its housing 311.
When you want to choose a given speed, you only have to make the slide 31 move so that one of the rollers 30 comes to be placed opposite the corresponding pusher 14. For this purpose, the slide 31 passes through a bush 32, in which it can freely rotate thanks to ball bearings 33, 34, but not move axially because of these same ball bearings 33, 34.
The socket 32, for its part, is arranged in a fixed bearing surface 35, in which it cannot rotate, due to a button 37 of the bearing surface which is housed in a longitudinal groove 36 which it presents, but where it can slide axially; it is provided with a rack 321 engaged with a pinion 38 that the motorcyclist can actuate at will, for example by means of a lever carried by the frame. From the foregoing it follows that by acting on the handle an axial displacement of the slide 31 is produced and one of the rollers 30 is brought opposite the desired pusher 14, although the shaft 4 still rotates around its own axis.
Once the roller 30 in question has thus been brought to the desired position with respect to one of the pushers 14, it must still be partially brought out towards the outside of the housing 311 to produce the coupling of the toothed ring 1. or 2 or 3 and of the shaft 4. For this, the rollers 30 whose axes are perpendicular to the axis of 4, each bear in a notch 391 formed in the cylindrical surface of a piston 39 which can move axially. in the slide 31 which is hollow.
The notch 391 com carries a left part of sufficient depth so that, when the roller 30 is there, it leaves the pusher 14 in its rest position, and a right part of sufficient depth so that, when there is is housed, it forces the pusher 14 to act on the segment; this right part has the form of a flat parallel to the axis of 4. By moving the piston 39 from right to left with respect to the slide 31, from the position shown in FIG. 1, we therefore produce the coupling of the ring gear 1 or 2 or 3 to the shaft 4. The three notches are 120 from each other.
The piston 39 is provided with a rod 40 connected by nuts 41, 42 to one of the raceways, 431, of a ball bearing 43 of which the other raceway, 432, is integral with a cap 44 in two pieces, internally cut at 441 in a fast-pitch nut engaged with a thread made at the left end of the sleeve 32. By rotating the cap 44 on the thread, an axial displacement of the thread is therefore produced. piston 39, although this is still free to rotate with slide 31 and shaft 4.
A spring 46 constantly tends to push the piston 39 to the left and produce the clutch; the motorcycle cyclist can oppose this movement or return the piston 39 to the disengaged position by acting on a double pedal 47 integral with the cap 44.
The operation of this form of execution is as follows: At rest, the slide 31 is at the left end of its stroke and at an axial position such that one of the rollers 30 is facing the pusher 1.4 of the large ring gear 1. The piston 39 is, with respect to this slide 31, in the position which is indicated in FIG. 1 and to which this roller does not act on the pusher. The shaft 4 is not coupled to any of the toothed rings 1, 2, 3.
If now the motorcyclist wants to couple the large diameter ring gear 1 to the shaft 4 and obtain the minimum speed, he has only to leave the slide 31 in the position indicated and to weigh. . on the pedal 47 so as to move the piston 39 from right to left in 31; the roller 30 actuates the pusher 14 which moves the shoes 16 away from the segment 15, then connecting the crown 1 to the shaft 4.
To switch to the average speed of this shaft 4, the motorcyclist begins by backing the piston 39, relative to the slide 31, to the position of FIG. 1, by acting on the pedal 47, thus disengaging the shaft 4 from the crown 1, then it moves the slide 31 to the right by the desired amount to bring the second roller 30 opposite the push button 14 of the crown 2 , finally it pushes the piston 39 from right to left and thus engages the crown 2 and the shaft 4.
It finally obtains the maximum speed of 4 by a similar maneuver, thanks to which it first brings the third roller 30 in front of the pusher 14 of the crown 3 and then forces this roller to produce the coupling of the crown 3 and 4.
The axes of the three pushers 14 are in three different axial planes; they could equally well be all in the same axial plane, in which case a single roller 30 and a single notch 391 would suffice for their operation.
In a variant shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the roller 30 is removed and is replaced by a spout 392 integral with the piston 39 and continuously projecting outside a slide 313 of the slide 31. When the pusher 14 must produce the clutch, the spout 392 is moved from right to left relative to the slide 31.
It is possible to use a transmission by toothed wheels between the motor shaft and the toothed rings 1, 2, 3, a transmission by pulleys and belts, a combination of transmission with toothed wheels and chains, to the case where it is desired to obtain forward and reverse gear.
Instead of the arrow 47 one can use a lever operated by hand or a remote transmission, by cable or rod, connecting the cap 44 to a lever placed on the handlebars or on the frame.
The wedges can also act directly on the segments, without the interposition of the shoes 16.
The number of speeds that can be obtained may be greater or less than three. Finally, the shaft 4 could also be the driving member and the rings 1, 2, 3 be the driven organs.
The gear change device can be applied to other machines or devices than a motorcycle.
